in the first debate at hofstra university on new york's long island. good afternoon. it's monday, september 26. i'm kenny choi. >> and i'm michelle griego. the latest polls show that donald trump and clinton are in a dead heat. a new poll from bloomberg shows trump leading his democratic rival by two points. other polls show clinton holding the lead but not by much. as highway is riding on the line tonight. >> reporter: the audience for tonight's televised showdown between clint clinton and trump could reach 100 million viewers as clinton's polls are showing her slipping. >> hillary clinton knows she needs to earn the voter's trust. >> reporter: the democratic nominee spent most of the weekend practicing with a small group of advisors and studying the trump primary debate. trump, on the other hand devoted less time to debate prep but his campaign said

she's ready. >> when he is talking about his message and where he wants to go versus where hillary wants to go. >> reporter: in this debate, trump has to show he's presidential and clinton has to get her voters excited again. >> it's not that they are twitching back and forth but her voters are less likely to vote. >> reporter: on hofstra, they are waiting to hear more on the issues before making up their minds. >> to so many people, the decision is up in the air. >> reporter: are you lean one way or the other? >> no i am waiting to hear what both candidates have to say. >> reporter: both will have plenty to say focusing on security and growth. >> both campaigns are disagreeing on whether moderators should fact check the comments during the debate. melissa caen said that it could

sonoma county is causing residents to prepare to evacuate in a moment's notice. so far, the fire is 20% contained. anne makovec explains what's making the firefight so difficult for crews. >> reporter: firefighters did make good progress overnight. you can see the roads are still blocked off as the temperature start -- starts to rise again. >> it was the smoke. >> reporter: as soon as she smelled it, she knew she and her dog needed to get out of her house. >> it's one road in and 1 road out. >> reporter: 30 homes are under evacuation orders near the cloverdale mountains. firefighters are struggling with the harsh conditions. >> it's just tough. >> reporter: high temperatures have been hanging around 100 degrees in the rural area made up of rugged mountainous terrain.

expected by friday. today's hot weather is impacting the firefight. let's go to the weather center. we don't have a red flag warning but hot and dry and winds are light, not gusty like this weekend. we have a spare the air alert in effect and air quality is expected to be unhealthy for the east and south bay. we had the high pressure trapping the particulate matter at the surface, and here's a look at the forecast, moderate for most of the day, and if you are commuting or carpooling, they encourage riding a bike, too, but avoid any outdoor strenous activity. we have a heat advisory. the coast, temperatures in the 80s and 90s and inland highs, 90s to triple digits, and you want to stay hydrated. bring the pets indoors and keep them as cool as possible. this is the warm time of the year in san francisco. we look forward to this as our

out of houston, texas.. where police say.. a disgruntled lawyer randoml six people this mor we're following developing news out of houston, texas where police say a disgruntled lawyer randomly shot six people, one critically before he was shot and killed by police. the first report of the shootings came in around 4:30 pacific time. witnesses heard at least 50 gunshots over 40 or so minutes.

a mayor told the houston news station that the gunman was either fired or had a bad relationship with his law firm. protesters in charlotte are unhappy with how the police chief and mayor handled the shooting of keith scott and are calling for him to resign. the police and protesters faced off after police released video. it appears in the dashcam video he walked out of his car and slowly backed away before shots are fired. the body camera shows officers standing over scott trying to handcuff him. >> there was no definitive evidence in the video whether or not there was an object in his hand and if there is, what that object is. >> police released this photo as evidence. the 20-year-old suspect in a deadly shooting rampage at a mall north of seattle faced a judge today.

according to court documents, he confessed to bringing a rifle into macy's and bringing all 5 victims. arcan cetin faces 5 charges of premeditated murder. police searched his home trying to piece together a motive. >> we feel confident we have the shooter. whether or not anyone else was involve side what we will determine. >> born in tucky, cetin is a legal u.s. resident with at least two charges against him. he was ordered to undergo a health e val yags. the fbi said there is no indication that the shooting was linked to terrorism. and police say that a it took a double dose of spraying to kill the zika virus saying

that it's safe when it's done correctly. the cdc said it killed off the mosquitos spreading the virus in the wynwood neighborhood, and there are also individual cases across the state. closer to home, health workers in santa clara county say that it's still a threat. fogging operations are scheduled to begin at 11:00 on thursday night and end at 2:00 friday morning. symptom include fever, body 80s, and in severe cases, it can be deadly. right now, rivers continue to rise threatening low-lying areas in iowa, and the water is ravaging city streets and parks and forecasters expect the cedar river to crest at 23 feet tomorrow morning well above flood stage. officials are evacuating about 5000 homes and it could be days

before they return home. here in the bay area, another hot day and julie watts is tracking the heat wave. yes. it will soon come to an end with temperatures well above average. outside, 90 in livermore and 87 in concord and 93 in san jose. you know, folks in san jose, 90 is super hot without air conditioning. in san jose, 86, and needless to say, we are well above average and high pressure remains in place and keeping us hot and keeping the air quality on the bad side and unhealthy for the east and southeast. the heat advisory in effect for the entire bay area. yes, we will see 90s and low triple digits possible. but the more concerning story is the 80s and 90s along the coast and the peninsula. yesterday, we saw triple digits along the peninsula at the unofficial reporting stations. that is very hot especially in the locations which don't

shutterfly. the online retailer is adding new at noon, amazon is looking to compete with companies like shutterfly. the online retailer is adding a new photo printing service and allows customers to print their photos and order souvenirs like photo books and calendars. it's only available to those who use amazon drive. photos must be stored on the platform to be printed through amazon prints. and amazon might be getting a little worried because google's new smart speaker is expected to be cheaper.
