live from the cbs bay area studios this is kpix news. >> now at five, saying good-bye to the game as the giants clinch the wildcard spot today. vin scully bidded his final game. and first this afternoon we saw our first fall rainfall. as you can see from high-def doppler today's active weather is pushing to the east and bringing snow to the sierra. we are going to start with the top story tonight. the rain. some folks got drenched. others didn't see a drop. here is a time lapse in real life of the clouds passing over the bay bridge. we didn't see much rain in san francisco.

not much measurable rain here, but a beautiful shot of the bay bridge throughout the day. elsewhere, the east bay, take a look at this. this is in martinez. sidewalks and roadways got drenched in the wake of those thunderstorms that we just showed you there on high-def doppler. we do have more showers on the way. not likely as heavy as what we saw in the east bay, but we will time out the showers in just a bit in your full forecast. >> sounds good. the rain didn't stop the giants. they did it. san francisco clinched the wildcard spot defeating the dodgers on their home turf today. >> out in left field for pagan. for the fourth time in seven years the giants are heading towards a meaningful october. >> angel pagan caught a fly ball in the outfield to win the game. today marked the final game for broadcasting legend vin scully. marina spoke with baseball fans who bid scully good-bye and

good luck after nearly 70 years on the air. >> reporter: if you don't recognize his face, you will likely recognize his voice. >> this inning the giants are allowing me a chance to get my feet wet as crawford swings and misses. >> reporter: after 67 years, vin scully called his last game as the dodgers took on the giants, and many of his fans. >> we flew in this morning. >> reporter: traveled to be at the game to send him off into retirement. >> he deserves it. he is the greatest. it's his time. >> reporter: scully's listeners have memories of the broadcasting legends career years, evening decades ago. >> everyone who played stickball in the back alleys with the radio on listening to vin scully. >> i remember putting it under the pillow to listen to the game. >> reporter: he captured the hearts of baseball fans of all ages.

>> he has a happy glow about him that everyone enjoys. >> we love you. thank you for 67 years of memories. >> reporter: scully stood up every now and then to wave giving fans a chance to snap one last picture as he called the final game i. have enjoyed the opportunity to use the radio up here in san francisco. an opportunity to say hello to all the giant fans. but it is a big deal to me. i really do appreciate the opportunity. >> reporter: and what a fitting final game for vin scully. he says it was 80 years ago today that he fell in love with the game of baseball and became a giants fan. at at&t park, kpix 5. >> that voice. we will have more game highlights coming up later in sports. new at 5 an investigation is underway after shots were fired at the concord police department. it happened last night around 11:00. in fact, you can still see marks where the bullets hit the front entrance. police say they aren't sure if the building was targeted. >> and this happened pretty

late last night. so there weren't too many people out in this area, and luckily nobody was hit. that's what's most important. >> no one has been arrested. police are asking anyone with information to contact the department. today the family of a man murdered in an east bay park held a ceremony to mark an important repair. >> surveillance cameras are now working again at caesar chavez park in east oakland. relatives of augustine's vigil held a celebration to remember his life and recognize the city's actions. they released balloons during a sacred aztec ceremony. today's ceremony stirred up emotions. >> it was so beautiful. it felt good to let my brother's spirit go. i want him to be three and i know he wants us to be happy and he doesn't want us to be sad and i will try my best. >> we reported this story about

how those cameras have not been operational for years. then city leaders bought new equipment and made a list of other parks in oakland where cameras need and will be fixed. in other news this evening, search crews have found the body of a missing kayaker near the san mateo bridge. the men left from oyster point in south san francisco with two other kayakers yesterday afternoon but went missing near sfo. a helicopter crew discovered the body this morning. the victim's identity has not been released. the loma fire is easing up in santa clara county. evacuation orders for summit road from loma per eat a road have been lifted. but north part is still closed. right now the fire has torn through 4400 acres, but it is 71% contained. firefighters are still looking for a cause, but expect to have the fire under control by tomorrow. and the soberanes fire burning in monterey county

could become the most expensive wildfire to battle in u.s. history. the blaze has cost the state an estimated $235 million. it's charred more than 132,000 acres since july, but is now 92% contained. firefighters expect to have the fire fully contained within two weeks. and the monterey county district attorney is warning evacuees of the soberanes fire to be aware of potential scams as they return back home. this could include charity fraud, price gauging and insurance scams. one office has received fake invoices for fire extinguisher inspections. new details this evening on a house fire that happened this morning in san leandro. it broke out about 7:15 in the back of the house on bella vista avenue. two people safely evacuated but one of their cats died. two others are still missing. firefighters got the flames under control within 20 minutes and prevented them from spreading to other houses. the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

police have made an arrest in connection with a cold case involving the death of a richmond woman. today officers arrested sheri lahairis smothers. he was identified in 2008 and a grand jury indicted him in august. he is accused of killing 25- year-old marcia carter. she went missing from her home in richmond in 1983 and her body was later found in the trunk of her own car in sacramento. next, a berkeley church in need gets a helping hand after a devastating fire. the act of kindness from one congregation to another on this sunday afternoon. and thousands of workers are getting a raise. how much the minimum wage is going up this january in one south bay city. ,,

they went to a free brunch at a neighboring chruch today parishoners at a church hit by a fire in berkeley got help from a neighbor. >> they went to a free brunch at a neighboring church. the fire friday afternoon tore through the first congregational church's hall. today members were invited to gather at a neighboring church, first presbyterian church, to eat and hold their own afternoon service. >> when we found out we couldn't have services in the morning as we normally do, it was like, okay, what do we do? well, now we know. we come here because the presbyterian church is so welcoming and beautiful to us. >> the sanctuary at the damaged church is largely intact,

caribbean islands. hurricane hunters will be flying in and out of it in the coming days. jamaicans and hatians are stocking up. this is the fifth hurricane of the 2016 hurricane season. closer to home some active weather of our own today. in fact, a line of thundershowers passing through several parts of the bay area. we saw some pretty active weather near redding. chico. you can see all the lightning strikes. heavy cells of rain passing through chico. also through the sacramento valley we saw these showers really heading up towards the sierra up 50 50 and 08 this afternoon. active weather in the east bay as well. heavy cells passing through around lunchtime today. one, two, three. heavy rain through contra costa, the east bay. most of it has tapered off this evening. we do though still have some snowfall and some rainfall in

the sierra this evening. over the city we have some cloud cover, but mostly dry at this hour. temperatures are in the 60s area wide. we will see temperatures drop over the next 24 hours and we see cold air behind the front that passed through. an area of low pressure and showers and thunderstorms. behind it we have another wave of moisture moving in for tomorrow afternoon. futurecast paints the picture here. around 3:00 we will start to see the leading edge of this. some light shower activity and increasing cloud cover possible tomorrow afternoon. in fact, futurecast really does paint the picture. we pause it around 1:00. you see santa rosa, north bay starting to see the possibility of some light showers, and then it spreads south. all of us get a 20 to 30 percent chance that you might see some sprinkles and certainly cloud cover for tomorrow and then it moves on out of here heading on into tuesday. your weather headlines showers tapering off tonight.

unsettled for monday afternoon. temperatures dropping, that's going to be the most notable change for many folks tomorrow. overnight tonight our overnight lows down that the 40s and 50s for most folks. not too chilly for us. we will see some cloud cover in place. but high temperatures tomorrow only getting up into the 50s places like pacifica, san francisco. 60s for the warmer spots. 67 san jose. 65 livermore, fairfield. 66 mountain view. 67 in oakland. we are 10 to 15 degrees below average on this time of year. 20 to 30% chance of showers tomorrow afternoon. drying out tuesday. high pressure builds back in wednesday. then we start to warm as we move on through next week. >> all right. a pair of new movies placed first and second at the weekend box office. >> miss peregrine's home for peculiar children came out on top with a $28.5 million debut.

"deepwater horizon" came in second with a $20.6 million opening. the magnificent 7 came in third place. storks in fourth place. "sully" came in fifth. new at 5, a police officer patrolling a plane platform in germany stopped arnold schwarzenegger and got his picture taken with him. it happened on friday in munich. the officer stopped his bodyguard and former governor himself and told them they were not supposed to ride bikes on the platform. police say the terminator apologized, that he was having trouble walking and offered to pose for a picture with the officer. he walked out of the terminal pushing his bike. >> and he said, i'll be back. the giants cannot say that about the playoffs. can the 49ers beat the cowboys? and the raiders accomplished something they haven't done since the turn of the century. reaction next. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
