suspect crashing into five other vehicles on the powell street off-ramp. it hit a pedestrian and that person went to the hospital. for now we don't know why the chp was after that vehicle. traffic in the area is worse than usual as you can imagine. kpix 5 reporter christin ayers is on scene getting more information and we'll have the latest online at cbssf.com. now to a developing story right now. hurricane matthew tracking toward the u.s. as a category 4 storm. president obama declaring a state of emergency for florida where 1.5 million people are in the evacuation zones. disneyworld, seaworld, universal studios, all shut down. this as the storm has killed close to 150 people in the caribbean, most of those victims in haiti. here's a live look at the storm as it inches closer to florida's eastern seaboard. cbs reporter don champion is in

the coastal city of port orange where thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes. >> reporter: winds and waves along the florida coastline are signs of the trouble to come hurricane matthew is barreling toward the florida coast as a category 4 hurricane and it could get even stronger. governor rick scott insisted the storm isn't one to take lightly. >> if you are in an evacuation zone get out. this is not something you should take a chance with. >> reporter: not far away, gary took his boat out of the water. he is the retired firefighter and says residents who stay behind do so at their own risk. >> when it gets bad and they call in 911, they don't leave the firehouse. they don't leave until after. >> reporter: hurricane conditions are even expected inland in orlando, where disney is closing its theme park. at least 2500 national guard troops have been called up, preparing supplies and rescue

boats. and as we brace for matthew, it is important to note that this part of the south florida coast has never been hit by a major hurricane. so this will be a far more powerful experience for anyone who dared to stay behind and try and ride out this storm. at last check more than 3,000 people were in about 60 shelters set up across the state. ken and liz, back to you. all right, don champion, thank you for that live report. back here in the bay area, more than a dozen flights had to be canceled because of hurricane matthew. now, most of those flights were scheduled to fly into or out of fort lauderdale or miami or orlando. all three of those cities affected. let's get the latest from chief meteorologist paul deanno who is outside levi's stadium with the very latest. paul. >> tell you what, guys, if you can imagine this, imagine hurricane-force winds stretching all the way from point reyes here in california all the way south to santa

barbara. that's a big chunk of coastline. that's exactly the potential to happen on the other side of the country in the east coast of florida. take a look at the satellite review of the storm. hurricane matthew is a 140-mile- per-hour sustained wind cat-4 major hurricane and the storm very likely will parallel the florida, georgia and south carolina coastlines for the better part of 36 hours, which means we will see hurricane- force winds or the potential of wind gusts up to 100 miles per hour from palm beach, florida, all the way north to south carolina. when it comes to hurricane forecasts, this is just about a worst-case scenario. we have our local forecast, which is beautiful, coming up in a few minutes. other bay area headlines, former san francisco school board president keith jackson and two others pleaded not guilty today on bribery charges. now this stems from the investigation of chinatown crime boss raymond "shrimp boy" chow, who received a life sentence in august for murder.

[ loud background noise ] >> the santa clara county sheriff is installing lock boxes for all deputies. it's to keep their guns safe from thieves. this ahead of a new state law in january requiring service weapons to be secured in vehicles. now in the north bay an attempted getaway that ended in a serious wreck. a chp officer tried to stop a car in novato. that driver had serious injuries when his car hit a tree off highway 37. and in antioch, a hazmat scare this morning. fire crews say a piece of a construction equipment containing the radioactive material -- containing radioactive material was run over by a truck causing a leak. material is used in some smoke alarms and has some medical applications. no injuries reported. it was a day of reckoning for some students in the east bay. not a big test this time around. rather, it was a flu vaccine day. and this year, kpix 5's john

ramos tells us there was no easy alternative. >> reporter: a beautiful fall day at glenview elementary school in oakland. so why were some kids feeling like they were walking their last mile? >> i'm going to squeeze this so i don't get mad at anybody. >> reporter: when you get a shot? >> yes. >> reporter: it was flu shot day. for the last three years, oakland unified has held three "shoo the flu" "shoo the flu" for kids. last year kids who wanted to skip the shot could get the flumist instead but now the cdc says the mist didn't work and recommends not using it. >> and then when they heard this year there was no option, it makes it challenging for them. >> reporter: while fourth grader helen was a little nervous to get her shot, she recovered nicely and even held her teacher's hand when it was her turn.

and suddenly, what had seemed pretty scary ended up no big deal. are you pretty brave about getting shots? >> yeah, a little bit. >> it hurt a little bit. like on a scale of one to ten, probably about a half. >> reporter: in oakland, john ramos, kpix 5. well, it is fleet week and that means a spectacular show in the sky. [ very loud background noise ] >> today the blue angels roared over san francisco. tonight navy pilots are practicing for the airshow this weekend. we saw four planes dipping an diving, soaring and streaking over the bay as they gear up for the big week. turns out, one of those pilots grew up in los altos. >> it's a neat sensation. we all love to fly or wouldn't be here and, um, flying in a blue angel jet in a blue angel formation parts of that invigorating team that entire ballet of in the air and on the ground support that makes it happen is, um, is invigorating but very much a privilege and honor for us to be part of each and every day.

[ laughter ] >> that's the way it's going to stay. >> reporter: but after a lackluster start to the season there are signs that the faith may be faltering. >> we are having ruch -- we are having rough patches. it's rough to see. >> reporter: online hundreds of season ticket holders are dumping their tickets often at a loss. at the nfl exchange today we found tickets going for as little as $20 well below face value. >> hopeful. we just always keep hope. we're still fans. >> reporter: but one fan's loss is another's gain. mike got a great deal on tickets. after a life-long fan is seeing his team in person for the very first time. >> there are a lot of fair winded fans. they will go when it's good and lose faith when it's down. but, um, i been a 49er faithful since five years old. >> reporter: as of a short time ago, we could still find those

between $2,500 and $4,000 per ticket. when it comes to hotels, cheaper venues like the wrigley hostel are booked. but hot wire is showing three to four star hotels on the miracle mile starting at $183 plus taxes and fees. last-minute airfare to the windy city is by far the biggest expense. we found flights on united friday morning arriving in time for the 8:15 game as low as $726. but book quickly. a similar flight on delta went from $689 to over $1,000 in a matter of minutes. now, no trip though chicago is complete without a deep dish, a large pie there running about 30 bucks a pop. and we are told the beer at the cubby bear across from wrigley is a must beers 7 to 9 bucks. total for two people two games two nights two pizzas and beers, $2,350.50. to save more on a hotel room you can play the big game on priceline and try to name your price but beware of the

[ whistle ] >> the stickers go out on academic achieve. >> reporter: the coach expects 100% on the field. but if you want a helmet sticker -- >> 3.0 he is humble. >> reporter: -- you must earn it with at least a 2.0. while jesus has a 3.4, he is not so sure about some of his teammates. >> it really pushes you to get that 2.0 or higher. because if you don't get it, you don't play. >> reporter: the team culture

we are heading toward a few low 90s toward the weekend. right now it's anywhere from 68 in san francisco to 80 in livermore n between we find 77 comfortable degrees in san jose. santa rosa 79. oakland 75. 49ers forecast the game now just about one hour away taking on the cardinals as you know. sunshine, 75 degrees for kickoff. we are looking at temperatures cooling into the 60s. should be a beautiful night for football. a little bit breezy. advantage kicker facing his back to the north. because the wind will be going from north to south. overnight lows tonight 40s. santa rosa 45. napa 48. concord 49. san francisco tonight 53. pacifica 52. it's sunny. there's a big ridge of high pressure. it will come closer tomorrow closest on saturday. those will be the two warmest days of the next several tomorrow and saturday seeing 80s and 90s inland, 70s and 80s near the bay. so tonight, it will be clear, cool. we'll warm up into the weekend with temperatures hitting their

we are about an hour away from kickoff between the 49ers and the arizona cardinals. while the san francisco giants are about 24 hours away from first pitch in chicago against the cubs. now, the giants were set to speak with the media and have a workout at wrigley field around 2:00 today. but their plane was about an hour late to the windy city and, ha, can you blame 'em? there was a lot of celebration in new york last night after conor gillaspie's three-run home run into the ninth took them into the division series. he was drafted by the giants in 2008 and says his attitude today much better than it was then. >> i let the happiness of my life and the happiness of relationships with people i care about, that was all based on what i did in the game. and, um, when i went home last year in september, i thought about that. i said, you know what? there's absolutely no reason to let my happiness depend on whether i get a hit or not.

>> giants and cubs game one tomorrow. back here in santa clara, the 49ers have devastating news. navorro bowman out for the season with a torn achilles. but some news will soften that blow a little bit. with the return of pass rusher aaron lynch back into the 9er line-up. he was suspended for four games after violating the league's substance abuse policy. his return should help san francisco. they have only seven sacks this season. lynch lost 30 pounds trying to get back into football shape. >> aaron, why weren't you in shape? >> i don't know. obviously, i don't know why i got "pregnant." i was eating a lot for her. i wasn't careful with my diet. i was eating whatever. and then it went up and i felt it on the field. so got to get it down. sure hasn't been great for the 49ers so far. but consider the cardinals, who
