unclear at this time. the coast guard is crediting good samaritans and partnering agencies with helping in the rescue. we talked to one of the people who rushed to help. >> there was kids and family in the water. they didn't have enough life preservers. myself and other people, we were doing everything we can out at this fishing boat to help them. they were doing that within 5 minutes or less. we had the fire department, the police department, the coast guard and everybody out there. >> well, ma than snapped several pictures -- man snapped several pictures of people in the water. we are expecting an update on their conditions very soon. all the agencies were out there for fleet week's safety patrols and were able to be out there quickly. and breaking news out of southern california. a manhunt is on the way for a man who shot three officers. two of those officers have died in palm springs. it all happened about four hours ago.

witnesses reported hearing ten to 20 shots. the gunfire came so fast it sounded like fireworks at first. >> it was rapid fire. >> reporter: what kind of gun? >> it had to have been automatic. it was hundreds of shots. hundreds of shots. >> reporter: dozens of officers are now combing for the area for the shooter or shooters. people who live nearby are being asked to stay inside at this hour. two officers confirmed dead. a third is wounded. the motive for the ambush also unclear right now. and there's been a deadly officer-involved shooting in modesto. police were called out to a family disturbance this morning. they say an intoxicated woman confronted them in the street armed with several knives she refused to drop. she then ran at them with the knives raised above her head. officers tried a taser and bean bags before shooting her. the 53-year-old woman later died at the hospital. the three officers involved in the confrontation are all on standard paid leave. the police and sheriff's departments are both

investigating. now to the race for the white house and a campaign in crisis. donald trump caught on tape making sexist comments so lewd we can't air some of them on tv. the republican nominee now busy trying to put out fires on the eve of the second presidential debate. this time over a leaked video from 2005. he's heard boasting over how his celebrity status allows him to grope women. >> just kissing them. when you're a star, they let you do it. [ laughter ] >> they let you do anything. grab them by the -- [bleep] . do anything. >> trump has apologized and calls the release of the 11- year-old video nothing but a distraction. the fallout has been harsh and swift on both sides of the aisle. here in the bay area, senator barbara boxer responded to the video at an event in san jose. >> it reveals the disdain and lack of respect he has for women.

the negative attention away from himself and on the clintons. let's listen to that. >> i've said some foolish things. but there's a big difference between words and actions of other people. bill clinton has actually abused women and hillary clinton has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims. we will discuss this more in the coming days. >> reporter: now after the last debate, trump did imply he plans to bring up clinton's infidelity issues on this next debate. sounds like he's doubled down on that. will that hurt or help him? >> it depends on his listening and how he says it. the good apology is no buts. i'm sorry but your husband is really horrible really takes away from an apology. that's the first thing. if he talks about the clintons, he should do it separate. trying to make hillary clinton responsible for her husband's actions could turn women off further. if he were to do this, he needs

to focus on hillary clinton's own actions towards women. hillary clinton's camp knows this has been coming. she will be ready. of course, that will be something interesting to watch. >> we have republicans calling on him to drop out of the race. could it actually happen? >> the ballots have gone out. what could happen here? look, in 1912 a republican vice presidential candidate died a week before the election. so we have a history about what happens when you bode with somebody on the ballot who's no longer a -- somebody who's no longer a candidate. where clinton wins, the democratic electors get to vote. so let's say donald trump drops out and the party says, okay, everybody, the new nominee is mike pence. everywhere where trump wins, they tell at the electors, you vote for mike pence.

that's how it would work if trump drops out. the party has another weapon in its arsenal to pull him off the ticket is to width draw party support from his campaign. he's relied a lot on the national committee to get out to vote and a lot of the campaign infrastructure. if they were to width draw that kind of support, that could also -- withdraw that kind of support, they could also -- that could also hurt him. the republican party can replace a candidate who drops out, dies or otherwise is not the nominee on the ticket. and it's that otherwise that leads some people to think that the party has a little room to maneuver. others say, no, it doesn't work that way. but that's an argument the party could have internally. >> well, there is at least one woman who's coming to trump's defense. here's what the vice chair of california's republican party told us last night. >> this is an 11-year-old tape recording of somebody who didn't know somebody was taped. at that time he did that, he

everyone knew as miss flo. maria medina spoke to her family today. >> reporter: this is where she was found badly beaten last month. her family hoped she would return home one day. she was making progress in her recovery. but things took a turn for the worst a few days ago. >> a loved one taken to such a brutal beating and basically murdered. >> reporter: pastor michael wallace's life changed forever in a moment. now so does the suspect's in his aunt's beating. >> this morning, she passed away. >> reporter: his aunt, miss flo passed away in the intensive care unit. >> she was severely beaten. it's heartbreaking. >> reporter: miss flo's death now turning the case of a teen suspect into a murder investigation. >> we support him being charged with murder. >> reporter: investigators say zachery quinn badly beat miss

>> reporter: the plan is that he would bill a new stadium here. more than 2 dozen people are looking for a new place to stay tonight after a three- alarm fire gutted their concord apartment. it erupted as a diablo view complex and quickly spread through a three-story building. three people were treated for smoke inhalation but should be okay. no word yet on how the fire started. meanwhile many victims of the movo fire are coming home to fire and ash. dozens gathered to get advice on the recovery process. at this point, all evacuation orders and road closures have been lifted. the blaze has scorched more than 3400 acres and now 95% contained. at least 12 homes and 6 outbuildings have been destroyed. >> what we don't want to do is push you to websites and say, well, go to this website and

at least by san francisco standards. temperatures pretty much in the 80s area wide at this hour. blue skies. it was definitely a warm one today. we do, though, have a bit of a cooldown on the way. futurecast showing we will enhance that marine layer once again overnight tonight. and as we do, it's going to help to trigger that onshore flow. not a significant cooldown. we won't be socked in tomorrow. but just enough to start a bit of a cooldown. we're a few degrees cooler. tomorrow, we should still see, though, plenty of sunshine for most locations tomorrow. overall, though, high pressure which has been in place trying to work things up is beginning to weaken a bit. as it does, we'll see the influence from this area of low pressure to our north. rain chances increasing as we advance on into wednesday of next week. we start to see this next area of low pressure approach to our north likely bringing showers to the northern portion of the state. and a chance of showers to many spots in the bay area. by mid-week to late week next week. so slightly cooler. your weather headline for sunday. much cooler, though, next week and then a shower chance begins

miss flo passed away this morning weeks after she was brutally beaten and robbed in her own home. the teenage suspect now facing a murder charge. >> rescuers pulled about 30 children out of san francisco bay after the boat they were riding in suddenly capsized. it happened at san francisco's pier 35, right in the middle of fisherman's wharf. good samaritans jumped in to help as rescue crews arrived. everyone is accounted for. but we've learned five adults and three children are in the hospital. nevada lawmakers will vote monday on whether to use three quarters of $1 billion in taxes to build a stadium in las vegas. organizers have sent these cards. the relocation decision is ultimately up to the nfl. and a 2/3s majority of team owners. hurricane matthew is tearing up the east coast. florida, georgia, and the

carolinas are taking a beating even as the storm starts to weaken. matthew is now to blame for at least 14 deaths in the united states. nearly 2 million households and businesses are without power this evening. but the storm is weakening. it's being downgraded to a category 1 hurricane. and the winds have calmed just slightly to 75 miles per hour. marly hall is in florida with the latest on this storm. >> reporter: hurricane matthew's powerful storm surge collapsed up here in oak island, north carolina, yesterday. matthew was barreling down as a category 1 storm with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. >> this is a very, very serious and deadly storm. >> reporter: in sawing, matthew's ferocious -- in st. augustine, matthew's at the rogues winds battered the area. flash flooding is so severe in south carolina a man used his kayak to get around in charleston.

officials expect another 7 inches of rain to fall. >> it's still a very serious situation. and it is -- we are not out of the woods. >> reporter: matthew also caused massive destruction in florida. an 8-block stretch of roadway was washed away in flagler beach. >> it's unbelievable. it's -- mother nature had something against us. >> reporter: in this residential community here in flagler, most the homes were damaged, including this one. hurricane-force winds peeled the roof right off. >> reporter: andria banks was among the thousands forced to flee their homes. she returned home to survey the damage. >> you can't let yourself think about it too hard because then you crack up. >> reporter: while the cleanup is just beginning here in florida, further north officials say the worst is yet to come. marly hall, cbs news, flagler beach, florida. >> and we're tracking the storm this evening. record-breaking flooding developing over eastern north carolina. hurricane matthew, as we

mentioned, is now a category 1 storm centered 40 miles off the north carolina coast. wind speeds at 75 miles per hour sustained. but gusts upwards of 90 miles per hour moving east/northeast right now up the coast heading towards the northern portion of north carolina. virginia will feel some of these outer bands as well. here's a look at the hurricane track through the weekend and into monday. looks like by sunday afternoon we will have downgraded this to about 65 miles per hour. still a category 1 hurricane. by monday, however, forecast models showing it will decrease wind speeds to tropical storm wind speeds. 50 miles per hour there. we will continue to be tracking this over the next couple of days. really the big concern here is rainfall. we are looking at record amounts of rain. up to 12 inches of rain. some isolated areas up to 20 inches of rain. we're looking at flooding, storm surges. possibility of tornadoes. severe weather continues throughout the evening. so we will keep an eye on this

down tomorrow. not substantially. but you will notice that sunday will be the cooler day of the weekend. high pressure will be in place helping to keep us warm with that northwest flow. it is now diminishing and we will start to see the impact of low pressure moving in from the north late they are weekend. this is futurecast showing us wednesday. this area of low pressure moving over the pacific northwest. it will bring rain over the northern portion of the state. northern portion of the bay area by wednesday and thursday. and much of it will see a 30% chance of rain thursday, friday, saturday. not a rain out. but certainly shower chances for most over those couple of days. and the weather headline, slightly cooler on sunday. much cooler next week. and shower chances begin for thursday over much the area. certainly a bit of a change from what we've seen this weekend, right? high temperatures tomorrow still very pleasant. and on the warm side. temperatures near 70 degrees near pacifica.

84, san jose. 74, oakland. mid- to upper 80s for the north bay. upper 80s for fairfield as well. now look at the extended forecast. we continue to cool into your workweek. temperatures into the low 80s for monday. 70s, tuesday. it's wednesday, really thursday when we see a chance of showers. and that continues friday and on into saturday. so really some big changes headed our way. vern, what do you have coming up on sports? >> i'll deviate from the cue cards and say the giants are making some noise 5-2. madison baumgartner was on the base. game 2. >> nfl and the -- [ creepy voice ] >> -- the raiders!!! a legitimate shot to a 4-1 record. defensively, look at no. 42. raiders' defense has improved the last couple weeks since joseph has been inserted as a starter.

king recently posted videoed himself getting trimmed with the bevel razor. today the company has raised $33 million from top venture capitalists and magic johnson, andre iguodala, and john legend. still, he says 99% of people he pitched his idea to turned him down. mostly white men in silicon valley. >> even with all the successions to date, we have 97% of customers buy from us every single month. we still get rebuttals saying this is a niche opportunity and they're wrong. >> reporter: you have the pedigree and all the credentials of a silicon valley entrepreneur. but it's not an easy road. >> well, it's not! well, entrepreneurship is not easy anyway. and as a black c.e.o., it's not easy. as a black c.e.o.
