another driver caught it all on camera - as the fire swallowed the cab of the truck. it's causing a big traffic jam in s breaking news. a truck goes up in flames on the freeway, another drive caught it on camera as the fire swallowed the can of the truck. it's causing a big traffic jam in san mateo county. >> two eastbound lanes of 92 are blocked west of 101. avoid the area. no word yet on what caused the fire and backups for miles. that wasn't the only crash. a big rig jackknifed on the bay bridge spilling fuel and that made for a terrible morning commute. it happened on the lower deck near the eastbound first street on-ramp. kpix 5's anne makovec is live with the mess and the clean-up. >> reporter: the latest good news all the lanes of the bay bridge are reopened right now

going eastbound. the only thing closed is the on- ramp at first and essex so things are lightening up but that's one of the problems with have been a busy bridge. there aren't a lot of ways around it which means that this morning was a traffic nightmare. this big rig jackknifed on the lower deck of the bay bridge at 5 a.m. crashing into a wall and leaving diesel fall all over the road. >> we believe right now that the combination of wet road and unsafe speeds caused the vehicle to hit the wall. >> reporter: the crash happened near the first street on-ramp. the chp initially closed four of the five eastbound lanes. >> we have to go to work in san leandro and it's going to be a mess to get there. >> reporter: traffic was diverted at 4th street on san francisco, the backup extended down the peninsula leaving city streets gridlocked. >> it's awful. stuck in traffic for about two hours. >> reporter: even when crews were able to tow the truck

away, they had the diesel mess to clean up, laying down sand and sweeping it away. >> the driver got out and was very lucky. >> reporter: all right. and the current conditions, it's not raining now here on treasure island. they are getting a break. in essence, the traffic conditions are going bad westbound right now on the bay bridge. we are seeing some of the high- rise vehicles just crawling along. so welcome to the bay area. live on treasure island, anne makevoc, kpix 5. to the storm watch now. we woke up to showers in the bay area today just one of several rounds of rain and at the coast, big waves. [ sound of waves ] >> this was the scene in pacifica earlier today. big waves are often a concern there with eroding cliffs. >> looking at sfo, weather is causing flight delays.

according to the faa, some arriving flights are an hour and a half late and there's a 45-minute delay for some departing flights. so how much rain did we get? roberta has an update. >> it's been so impressive and consistent. we have seen over an inch of rain from san jose to the south to an inch in the north. very rarely do we see rainfall amounts so consistent. now we are seeing the lingering effects of the area of low pressure continuing to lift to the north and to the east. we have rain showers from vallejo past tennessee street along highway 80 digging into the carquinez heights area and activity leaving rodeo, crockett, bay ridge into let's say clay's lane. we have plenty of rain. this low pressure is out of here going northeast to the central valley to the high sierra. i wanted to point something out to you because now that green means rain but when you see these shades here of the pink

and the white, that indicates that we have sleet and even snow all the way through kirkwood leading into south lake tahoe. we have a winter weather watch in effect that's going to make an impact on the weekend travel plans. we'll have more on the local forecast coming up. there may be a break between storms. but for some folks, there's no break in preparing for the wet weather. more now from kpix 5's maria medina. >> reporter: as the sun came up and the sound of the rain began to fade, another sound can be heard loud and clear. anthony meadows owned his landscaping business for 30 years. he said when he is hired to do a job, rain or shine, he is out there. >> always. the only time is if the machines act up. >> reporter: with rain on the way his job is more important. >> just keep on cleaning, that's it make sure the storm drains are clean, make sure there's -- the drains are clean

near the houses, doesn't flood out. >> reporter: today's storm brought lots of rain causing slow traffic and putting crews all over the bay area on high alert for power outages, downed trees and flooding in some parts with the ground now soaked. that threat is more real with another round of rain. while some stay indoors this weekend the weather won't stop anthony from getting his job done outside. >> it's hell. this is supposed to keep me dry. i'm wet inside from sweat. it doesn't keep us dry at all. >> reporter: in san mateo, maria medina, kpix 5. >> a chinese sailor's racing team is urging the coast guard to resume the search. he disappeared after leaving the bay area. [indiscernible name] was intended to get to shanghai in 18 days. he hasn't been heard from since monday. the boat was found 600 miles

northwest of the hawaiian islands. the sailor was not on board. his life jacket was found. coast guard suspended the search on wednesday citing big waves, wind and darkness. san francisco's board of supervisors will immediate in a couple of hours to discuss proposed new standards for building construction. it's in response to ongoing problems with the relatively new high-rise. the 58-story millennium tower has sunk 16 inches and started leaning since it was built in 2009. campaign 2016. in an october surprise the director of the fbi announced about an hour ago that they will be investigating a new batch of hillary clinton emails. they did not come from her private server. this comes less than two weeks from election day. cbs reporter craig boswell has the latest from the campaign trail. >> reporter: donald trump is on the attack saying hillary and bill clinton used their service in public office to get rich. >> hillary clinton put the

office of secretary of state up for sale and if she got the chance, she put the oval office up for sale also. >> reporter: hacked emails show bill clinton's aide doug band urged clinton foundation donors to offer president clinton paid speeches, and says he arranged more than $50 million in for profit activity for the former president. >> mr. band called the arrangement unorthodox. the rest of us call it outright corrupt. >> reporter: the clinton campaign will not confirm the email's authenticity. she ignored it yesterday. >> dignity and respect for women and girls is also on the ballot in this election. >> reporter: clinton will make what the campaign describes as her final pitch to women voters at a rally in iowa today. clinton is also making plans for if she wins. campaign sources say vice

confrontation, protestors who challenged police were arrested. >> we have the upper hand here. >> reporter: they are armed. they have billy clubs. the 1200-mile pipeline will carry crude oil from the bakken oilfield to illinois. indians are angry about plans to tunnel it under a river which they consider a tribal lifeline and may pollute water for americans downstream. north dakota's governor jack dalrymple had mobilized the national guard to end the protest. >> we cannot allow our state highways and our county highways to be taken over by agitators from other areas of the country. >> reporter: the indians and the environmentalists say they will fight on, setting up a barricade down the road but the state government and the owners of the pipeline are just as determined that it will be built. barry peterson, cbs news, near

cannonball, north dakota. >> good news for home buyers. u.s. mortgage rates dropped this week moving toward historically low levels. mortgage giant freddie mac says the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 3.47%. the lower rates are drawing more buyers to the market. the national association of realtors says the rate of people signing contracts to buy homes rose 1.5% last month. all right. it's going to be a huge night for chicago. wrigley field will host a world series game for the first time in 71 years. the game isn't for a few hours but excited cubs fans are already arriving at the stadium. the cubs have not won the world series since 1908. and as it stands now, the cubs and indians are tied at one game apiece. it's a best-of-seven series. time for a check now of our weather with roberta. >> what a fun day it's been. we kick-started our friday with lots of rain showers from the north bay into the santa clara valley. at this particular time the rain showers are isolated on

the passage of the front itself. we have some light rain showers now from cordelia backing around highway 680 as you make tracks towards benicia. also if we zero in a little bit a cell is getting smaller. it was blasting over highway 4 with moderate rain. with this front you see pink shades. generally when you see pink on our radar screen, this is an indication that we have -- let me try to point it out for you here -- some snow or some sleet and ice working its way up to kirkwood. this is the ski resort and right here in the south lake tahoe area, we have some winter weather watches that you need to know about. but first, let's backtrack a little bit. take a look at the golden gate bridge with the wet pavement. we have seen significant rainfall in the last 24 hours. venado 3." three-quarters in oakland. this is our live weather camera looking out from the sutro tower in a northerly direction. that's fog you see working its

way into our forecast now because the temperatures are so balmy, we had the wet pavement and the development of the fog, as well. winds have not been a story at all. the only thing that has not materialized in the passage of this subtropical moisture are the winds. but now they are picking up out of the southeast at 10. showers are tapering off. tonight cloud cover and more soaking rains for your saturday night. sunday morning, that's the passage of the front making tracks towards the high sierra. what we are looking at is that plume of moisture tapping in all the way to the eastern pacific. but upstream we have an area of low pressure that promises to bring us colder air mass. it's a cold front and it's going to start to move in not on your saturday, that's a lingering shower. it's right there on your sunday. behind it a lull and then more scattered showers during the afternoon hours. rainfall amounts have been impressive over 1.5" in many locations. here you have that flash flood watch that's allowing to expire. otherwise, it's a winter weather watch that's in effect

that to remind people that chocolate is very toxic to animals and can be lethal so be careful. also black cats if you have a black cat try to keep the black cat inside because we don't want them to accidentally be the victim of some unkind person. and, um, what was the other thing i wanted -- oh, when you're taking your dog out for a walk, make sure it's well lit so that reflective tape or lights or whatever and another thing is to keep them very close to you when you're crossing in a crosswalk because cars don't often see the little dogs. they will see but not the dog. so sometimes people will walk their dogs and the dog will be ahead or behind and that's how they can get hit by a car. >> we always hear about chocolate being dangerous but nuts are toxic, too. >> my rule of thumb no people food for dogs and cats. if you follow that rule, you will never have problems. >> costumes are okay? >> costumes are great. just remember that they should be reflective and people can see them so there's -- it's dark at night so we have
