cars in iowa. we're learning more about the suspected gunman. good afternoon, i'm kenny choi. riego. two police officers shot and killed ambushed while sitting in their police cars in iowa. we are learning more about the suspects gunman. an iowa man is in police custody in the shooting deaths of the two officers. the arrest comes after an hours long manhunt. >> reporter: the manhunt for a suspect in the shooting deaths of two iowa police officers is over. 46-year-old scott greene was arrested this morning in suburban des moines. the search for greene began not long after two officers were found shot and killed in a their patrol cars overnight. investigators are calling it an ambush. >> it doesn't look like there was any interaction. >> reporter: the first officer was found dead about 1 a.m.

local tyne in urbandale iowa local time. the second one two miles away in des moines 20 minutes later. >> both of them were in their cars. >> reporter: at daybreak police named greene a suspect. he was arrested a short time later miles from the crime scenes. the killings were a shock to the quiet community and to the police force, a tight-knit family. >> des moines is not a big city. we all know each other:so we're heartbroken. >> reporter: so far no word on a motive. >> police aren't commenting on a youtube video that shows a man being removed from a high school football game. it shows a confrontation with police after the man held up a confederate flag near a group of blacks at the game. stockton police are investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect by an off- duty san joaquin county sheriff's deputy. he was confronted about 10:40 last night in an apartment

complex parking lot by two armed suspects wearing masks. the deputy opened fire striking one suspect who died at the scene. the other suspect ran off. investigators say a stolen handgun was found at the scene was traced to the suspect who was killed. two men accused of beating a homeless man to death in san francisco appeared in court just a short time ago. kpix 5's anne makovec has more on what lies ahead for the suspects. >> reporter: cameras were not allowed in the courtroom today but both men appeared in orange jumpsuits and pleaded not guilty to murder. nearly two years after this video of a homeless man being beaten was captured, two suspects faced a junk. david peters and joseph stull are on the attack, the victim a disabled a 67-year-old homeless man, tai lam who died.

police released this footage of the suspects smoking near a mall hoping for clues from witnesses and finally this september the investigators identified stull from a dna match at the scene. he was in jail in idaho for grand theft where they say he admitted to the, quote, random attack. pointing a finger at peters, whom police found in stockton. through their lawyers, both men denied all allegations. they will be back in court on january 11. in san francisco, anne makevoc, kpix 5. also in court this morning, former san francisco 49er bruce miller. he pleaded not guilty to charges connected to an attack at a san francisco hotel. investigators say that miller was drunk back in september when he beat a 70-year-old man with a cane. the alleged victim's son was also injured in the attack. the 49ers released middler shortly after his arrest. a prehearing conference in the case is set for later this month. san jose police hope surveillance video will lead to tips in an armed robbery case.

investigators say the robber hit a 7-eleven on east santa clara street at 9:00 on august 29th. they say showed the clerk a handgun and demanded cash while a second suspect stood by outside as a lookout. both took off on mountain bikes later. it is a risky move for impatient passengers. once get off caltrain at this santa clara station, county leaders are about to put a stop to that. kpix 5's maria medina shows us what the vta is building so that pedestrians don't feel the need to cross the railroad tracks. [beep ] >> reporter: at the santa clara caltrain stop, once you got off, the only way out is not very convenient. >> you have to go all the way around. they have to go miles out of their way to connect back to coleman. >> reporter: coleman a main road in san jose not only takes you out to avaya stadium but to the airport as well as restaurants, businesses and offices, too. but some don't have the patience to get there, especially on bikes or on foot. >> in the past we think that

people may have walked across those tracks. that's dangerous. >> reporter: that's about to change. >> wahoo! >> reporter: today the vta and other county and city leaders broke ground on brokaw road on the other side of the tracks where they plan to build a tunnel and connect it to an existing tunnel already at the caltrain station. >> we want people to be able to get to the other side of san jose. >> reporter: santa clara county supervisor ken yeager says this will also one day serve as a bart stop for people coming from the east bay. after working on the $14 million project for years, he is finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. >> so it's a very, very big day. >> reporter: major construction will start around thanksgiving and the tunnel should be completed by next summer. in santa clara, maria medina, kpix 5. >> money to pay for the tunnel is coming from previously approved tax measures. the project will also include lighting and an open-air ramp. bart is looking into a small explosion on one of its

tracks. the transit agency says equipment problems caused heavy smoke late last night. that prompted a shutdown of the montgomery station in san francisco. >> we're in the train and it stops and then the lights went out and then the doors open and then, you know, it was, like, oh, you know, like what's happening and kind of it was, like, smoke. >> only a few passengers were affected by the delays and no one was hurt. everything was back to normal when bart resumed service this morning. a little known california voting law is under scrutiny today in a san francisco courtroom. it has to do with ballot selfies. state law currently prohibits people from sharing photos of their marked ballots. representatives from the aclu are hoping to get the been overturned. the group says that such photos should be considered political speech and should be protected by the first amendment. with just six days left until the election, hillary clinton is pushing her travel schedule into states that most

democratic candidates don't normally visit. donald trump focuses on secret voters in battleground states. craig boswell is tracking it all from the white house. >> reporter: hillary clinton is planning a rally in arizona tonight, a state that hasn't voted for a democrat since her husband won there in19996. >> he moved on to insult all latinos. >> reporter: clinton will focus on immigration and spell out the differences between her and donald trump. her campaign released new television ads aimed at getting latino voters to the polls. >> latinos will go to the polls greater than ever. >> reporter: the campaign has expandeddists ad buy into states it previously ignored. like new mexico, colorado, michigan and virginia. the clinton campaign insists the new ads aren't because they are concerned about tight new poll numbers but donald trump's camp is sensing an opening created by the latest turn in hillary clinton's email scandal. trump campaigned in wisconsin tuesday night and urged voters who have already voted for

soaring and the election has something to do with it. sturm ruger reported a 66% increase in its 3rd quarter earnings compared to last year. the company says gun sales are up across the industry based on fbi data on background checks. gun control is a hot topic in the election. hillary clinton wants to reinstate the ban on assault wells. donald trump is arguing for the second amendment. some people hear more gun control under a possible clinton administration and it contributes to the spike in sales. new at noon the federal reserve is leaving a key interest rate unchanged ahead of the election but may raise the rates soon. analysts anticipate that hike to happen in december. the feds say that the labor market has continued to strengthen and economic activity has picked up. checking stocks on wall street, the dow is down at this hour 44 points. if you are planning to fly to your thanksgiving destination, better book now. every day you wait will cost

you extra. the airfare prediction app hopper expects prices to jump about $4 every day. then in the 10 days right before thanksgiving, they could go up about $10 each day. it all comes down to tonight for one of the most memorable world series in recent times. last night, the chicago cubs beat the indians in cleveland 9- 3. that tied the series up at 3 games apiece leading to this evening's 7th and deciding game also in cleveland. no matter the outcome it will end a drought. the indians have not had a world series win since 1948. the cubs haven't won since 1908. fans have been waiting for hours outside cleveland's progressive field just on the chance some tickets will be released before game time. some people in line say there was a limited number of tickets released before yesterday's game. and they hope it will happen again today. the team has made no announcements. good luck to them. those people are paying big to watch in person.
