live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. >> donald trump preparing to give his last minute pitch to voters in nevada. we're live with a preview! >> and a big sigh of relief for crab lovers. the crab fishing season off to a solid start after a rough season last year. >> and kay use outside an oakland nightclub. eight people shot downtown, including the suspected victim. one of the victims now clinging to life. good evening. i'm goo goo. >> the violence broke -- i'm good imbued. >> the violence broke out last -- good good. >> the violence broke out last night. we're told the shooting was caught on camera. da lin has that footage. da? >> reporter: someone from this

area started shooting that way. that's when you see a lot of folks scrambling, running, and ducking for cover. chaos in downtown oakland after a gun battle. paramedics rushing victims to the hospital. this woman was shot in her right leg. an officer and a friend tried to stop the bleeding as they waited for paramedics. six innocent people were shot, caught in the crossfire. four of them women. and one person remains in critical condition. police arrested two suspects. the suspects were also shot. the mayor says detectives are working to figure out if they were shooting at each other. >> this week we've seen some incredibly disturbing instances of violence in oakland. and it is heartbreaking for us. >> reporter: the shooting happened just after midnight on 14th street near franklin street. it's a busy block with a nightclub and a bar. the victims were likely coming out of those businesses. >> we've had a good number of

homicides, shootings. and it's a block away from city hall. we need to make sure it's a safe area. >> reporter: this owner takes up a busted window from these printing business. he has to hand order custom orders because they refuse to walk on this block. >> reporter: scared? >> yes! >> reporter: other businesses on this block are also worried. they say news of the shooting is scaring people away from a nonprofit event at this art gallery tonight. >> i'm getting calls that people are concerned for an event that i have 300 people and about 50 of them won't be attending because they feel concerned about the safety of their lives. >> reporter: of the six innocent victims, the youngest person was a 17-year-old boy. as for the suspect, no motive or names. we know one person is 21. the other man, 38 years old. live -- 28 years old. live in oakland, da lin, kpix5.

five people has been shot in that area recently. the most recent in august. the gallery was hosting an all ages birthday party when shots rang out in the early morning hours. in june, a 16-year-old girl was killed and three other teenagers were wounded. the teenagers were attending a vigil for friends when two gunmen opened fire near the gathering. in april of last year, a musician was shot dead in the exact block where this latest incident happened. emilo arvarez was shot in the neck near broadway. a young woman found murdered in an east bay park. two suspects are under arrest for that killing. carl orchestra my residence was

an ex--- carlos ramirez was an an ex-sheriff's volunteer. we're learning new details about the teenager found dead at sonoma state university. they say 18-year-old kirk kimberly suffered multiple stab wounds to his body. he was found in a shallow grave at a parking lot on campus yesterday. on to campaign 2016, just a few days until the election and the presidential race is heating up. in less than an hour, trump will hold a rally in reno in an effort to win over nevada. joe vazquez is live at the rally in reno. joe? >> reporter: take a look behind me. this is the press area where they have us gathered. as you can see, there are barricades all around. we're caged in to watch the event. right up there in front of this

crowd, that is where donald trump will take the stage here in less than half an hour. i've had a lot of conversations with folks in the crowd. very cordial conversations. until somebody chimes in. for example, i was talking to this lady from stockton over at the booth that was supporting latinos for trump. >> my name is sandra juerta. i'm a latina. and i'm for trump! >> how would you describe the atmosphere? >> the atmosphere is, yes, the latinos are against me. >> reporter: hostile? >> very hostile. but i don't care. i'm for trump and i know what's right. and trump is your man. >> reporter: what do you say to people -- [talking at the same time] >> our prisons are! >> reporter: let me finish with her. in the bay area, right?

[talking at the same time] >> reporter: yes, it is true. my dad, a vietnam vet at one point he did cut cbs out of our household. no doubt about it. god rest his soul. i want to point out, a lot in the crowd here are from california. but not a lot of trump supporters outwardly speaking out in our area of california in the bay area. this is scott with his family. scott from south lake tahoe. scott, i've never seen one of he has red hats in person. so -- and we wanted to point out your tee shirt that has a hillary clinton as the joker. and let's see. you had something in the back. hillary for prison, 2016. that's what we're seeing. very hard core supporters of donald trump. they'll be seeing him in just over half an hour.

>> reporter: joe, if you can hear me, that was very interesting out on the streets of reno. so what is the mood and crowd right now inside? >> reporter: well, the crowd is pretty youtube lent. right now they're listening to speakers. folks have been breaking into cheers every now and then. there was a long line around the side of this convention center earlier today. we'll show you this right now. there are thousands of people here. and they started to wind up well before noon today. so there are a lot of people wearing tee shirts and buttons. some supporting trump. many against hillary. so we'll make that very clear. and whereas we have had a lot of cordial conversations that people here have very strong feelings here. we're in a bubble in the bay area. it's nice to get out of our bubble, come across to state lines torino and hear what -- to reno and hear what people have to say here.

>> reporter: joe, thank you! who do we want? when do we want them? >> now! >> and many came out for a flash mob rally for trump today. organizers say this weekend is their last chance to raise support for the republican nominee. >> at the same time, hillary clinton is spending this last weekend before the election in florida. the latest cnn poll show clinton and trump at a tie in that state. her scheduled rally cut short due to the weather but not before she made a last plea to voters. >> so let's get out! let's vote for the future! let's vote for what we want for our children and our country and our grandchildren! god bless you!!! >> reporter: clinton says millennials will decide this election and is urging them to vote. she's asking them to do a phone banking from their dorm rooms and come through neighborhoods in the final days.

>> reporter: many people in the bay area took vallejo of early voting today. long lines formed in san jose at the santa clara county voter's office. it's one of a half dozen polling places open in the county this weekend. and more are available in san mateo. the people showing up appear to be enthusiastic about casting their ballots, authorities say. >> we have a lot of people voting. they're excited. i'm asking, how long are you waiting in long for? they say, i'm not even paying attention. i'm excited to be voting. >> more than 30 million people have already cast ballots. over in southern california, check out the long lines in los angeles today. polling places flooded with people trying to vote early. the cue stretched all the way past the building and far beyond the lawn. you can see lots of voters just waiting their turn in the grass. fortunately, it was a nice day to wait. stay with kpix5 with the

(clocks ticking) daylight saving time started in 19- 18.. as a way a reminder to set your clocks back in a few hours! we gain an hour starting at 2:00 a.m. sunday. daylight saving time started in 1918 as a way to save fuel during world war i. the idea was more sun lithelight in the evening meant fewer indoor lights were needed. it used to be decided upon by city or state. hawaii and arizona don't have

daylight saving time. and a lot of other states want to join them. this year, 12 states have bills proposed to abandon daylight saving time or keep it for the entire year. california had a bill to scrap daylight saving altogether but it failed to get enough votes in the senate back in august. >> they did it for world war i. but they did it in 1918? so we had four weeks left in world war i when they started this? four of them, women. one person in critical condition. the suspects are 21 and 28 years old. there's no word on a motive.
