custody. david machoto jr. the deputy was responding to a suspicious car and person. we are live at the scene with the details. >> reporter: good evening, brian. the shooting happened at 8:heurt this morning and less than four hours later the suspect was in custody. you could see here at the sheriff's office a memorial already set up for deputy wallace. >> reporter: deputy dennis wallace shot and killed at fox grove park this morning in houston. after finding a stolen vehicle in the area. the sheriff says the deputy was shot execution style. the detectives say the suspect stole a car as multiple law enforcement looked for him. >> reporter: we broadcasted this information california wide that this individual was wanted for the murder of a peace officer. >> reporter: he then rob aid store and tried to -- robbed a store and then tried to steal a woman's purse.

that woman called the police and he was taken into custody after being chased by the police. >> the suspect was not immediately recognized or identified until after he was taken into custody. >> reporter: the sheriff says that he will stand trial here. now, the sheriff says that homicide detectives left in a helicopter today to try to see if the suspect in the jail wants to give a statement. he sent a team to bring that suspect here back. back to you. >> reporter: we. we are learning a woman is under arrest for a triple homicide. two women and a man were found dead on friday a mile southeast of the coliseum. they say someone stabbed all three victims, shot the two women and set their garage on fire. now, a woman is under arrest in the killings. set to be arraigned on tuesday. a powerful earthquake jolts

the quake on "south island" cracked roads and triggered landslides. it struck just after midnight on monday... local time... with a magnitude of seven point eight. residents say the shaking went on for about three minutes. a earthquake struck on monday local time with a magnitude of 7.8. residents say the shaking went on for 3 minutes. the quake caused items to fall from shelves in a super market. owner took pictures of all of the debris. the market was closed when the earthquake hit. emergency services detectived 6 foot high waves and warned a tsunami could happen. to be safe the officials told people along the entire east coast of new zealand to move to

much of monday will look okay. so, to sum it up. one more fair warm day for monday. on tuesday, we go a little cooler. just a slight chance of rain in the north bay. it looks like it will be wet next weekend. rain will be moving back in the bay area. we will wait until next weekend for that. meantime, nice week ahead. if you are heading out of the bay area. 72, partly cloudy skies for sacramento. fresno, middle 70s and sunshine and 54 at yosemite. overnight lows, not bad. look at the moon. not bad. numbers will bottom out in the upper 40s to middle 50s. tomorrow, close to average. 66 in the city. concord, 71. 74 in san jose. unusually warm. oakland will hit 69 degrees. we take a voyage around the bay area and do it by the numbers, low 70s in the south bay. -- the east bay, pleasant. low 70s as well. 72 for pittsburgh. 73 degrees at livermore. 72 at danville. up if in the north bay, we will be see something low clouds to

i am extremely proud of jackie, gaby and stephanie. we worked with pg&e to save energy because we wanted to help the school. they would put these signs on the door to let the teacher know you didn't cut off the light. the teachers, they would call us the energy patrol. so they would be like, here they come, turn off your lights! those three young ladies were teaching the whole school about energy efficiency. we actually saved $50,000. and that's just one school, two semesters, three girls. together, we're building a better california.

we are seeing more consistency from the quarterback position. certainly the defense played one of its -- well, best game day since the opening week. what seems like years ago. week 2 of the season. arizona david johnson ran for 157 yards as the 49ers rush defense is the laughingstock of the nfl. today, the rematch, this time in arizona. now, back after missing the last 2 games with a shoulder injury. the 49er defense held johnson to just 55 yards on 19 carries. this is the longest run of the
