employees' computers the day of transition agency system was hacked. >> i think it's terrifying. i do. if they can start doing this, you know, here, we're not safe anywhere. >> reporter: the message said you hacked all data encrypted with contact information for a key. tonight, a sfmta spokesperson confirms the system was hacked but it has not affected any services. it has affected metro fare gates. >> i noticed when we came through, everything was open. so i figured it's free day! >> is this part of black friday? >> showers after we reported the hack, we noticed the signs saying free entry were taped to ticket kiosks that were out of order. >> i wonder what the motive was? >> reporter: sfmta says it is investigating and wouldn't release what the hackers wanted in return.

even though we're learning about the hack now, our source says the hack happened last week. >> when it comes it electronic, it's scary. >> if that's going to be hacked? anything else could be hacked. >> hopefully they'll get it fixed soon. >> reporter: my source says the shack affected the -- hack affected the e-mail system, and employees may not get paid on time. but sfmta is staying tight lipped on the investigation, but says they are working as fast as they can for a fix. reporting live in san francisco, kpix5. two people died tonight when their car slammed into a tree in sunnyvale. police say the driver lost control on the central expressway. witnesses were able to get one of the occupants out. firefighters extricated the other, but both were pro announced dead at the scene. stormy weather turning up this, big surf in pass, it's
