there have been dozens of shootings along that stretch of the freeway over the past few years along with gang-related gunfire. several east bay mayors are calling on the state for money to install more highway cameras. >> now, to a dramatic story of survival. a young woman tells kpix5 how she made it out of a nasty car wreck that killed her best friend. the two college students were on their way home to castro valley when the accident happened last week. kpi can x5 sat down with the survivor who is now trying to heal. -- kpix5 sat down with the survivor who is now trying to heal. >> reporter: she is still trying to recovery. >> it has stitches. it happened in the car. i remember getting in the tree and my foot covered in blood. all of the scratches. >> reporter: she survived the car crash that killed her best friend. it is hard to talk about it. her family recounted the story.

>> she said i thought i was going to die. >> reporter: the two college students were driving home to castro valley after spending a couple days in humble county. jenna was driving. light rain, around 7:30 on wednesday night on highway 101 just north. the family said the car hydroplaned, flipped several times and landed in a flooded creek. they tried to kick open the front windshield but more water rushed in. they say natalie told jenna to follow her out of a back window. >> jump out of the back window that was blown out. as soon as she got out, washed up on the tree that the car hit. then turned around and the the car was down. the 19-year-old held on to the tree for 10-12 hours and she almost drowned trying to swim out of the creek. >> made it to the shore but had

to scramble through bushes and she said at that ponent she was so weak she could not walk up to the road, she was crawling. >> the family took a picture of the berry bush. >> the first call was to her mom. she could not talk, it was crying and deep breathing. >> reporter: first responders found jenna in a submerged car. >> it is hard to rejoice in natalie being with us without feeling selfish that she made it and jenna did it. >> reporter: the family says mentally it will be a long recovery process. both tkpwerls graduted -- girls graduated from castro

confirmed the next move to try to get out of oakland. filing relocation papers to move the franchise to vegas. they announced they secured financing for a new stadium just in case another funding falls through. mark davis met with league specials about a relocation, owners still have to approve a move and that could come as soon as march. this week the golden state warriors will take a big step to their move in san francisco. breaking ground on tuesday on the new state of the art chase center on mission bay. the warriors owner will be there. the celebration starts at noon. bottom of the hour, another game day sunday night sports gala. >> this one is special. >> the final 4 is set. we, myself and kevin lynch will look at the head coach finalists and set the table for the warriors and cavaliers. we are on the eve of that.
