revealing more about her alleged involvement in the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history. >> it is tuesday, january subpoena. i'm kenny troy. >> and i'm michelle griego, kpix 5 reporter is live at the federal anne makovec is live hack the courthouse in oakland where salman appeared this morning. >> reporter: and today noor salman will remain in jail. she'll be back here tomorrow. she's facing the possibility of life in federal prison. >> noor salman came into court wearing a baggy yellow t-shirt, at times her eyes scanning the courtroom audience, one person who was there for support, her uncle al. >> the right person who did this crime, he needs to pay for it but not take an innocent person. she have no idea. >> both of the charges against noor are related to her husband's massacre at the pulse nightclub in orlando in june of

last year. omar mateen died in a shootout with police after killing 49 people. noor is charged with one count of knowingly helping him support the islamic state group. a federal crime of terrorism, and one count of intentionally misleading investigators. >> she's accused of going with him to buy massive amounts of ammunition and pacing the club before the attack as well as disney world, another potential target. but her uncle says noor knew nothing and that she was a victim of omar mateen. >> he's abuser and controlling person. >> noor was arrested at her mother's house in rodeo yesterday where she lived with the 4-year-old son she shared with omar mateen. >> she loved her son so much. she wouldn't sacrifice. >> federal attorneys want the case prosecuted in orlando. noor will likely be extradited there soon. >> have justice system here and when they look at everything, they know she's going to be

free. >> now, noor salman's lawyer is on his way here to oakland from texas. he's expected to be in the courtroom with her tomorrow and will try to get her released from custody while the court proceedings move forward. michelle. >> and did salman's uncle ever meet omar mateen himself? >> yeah, he met him twice, once when omar mateen came to ask that uncle for his niece's hand in marriage, that is because her father is dead. the other time he met him was at their wedding and he said he really didn't know omar mateen very well but that he really liked his family at the wedding and that that did reflect positively on omar mateen. turning to politics now, today senate confirmation hearings reserved for more of president-elect donald trump's cabinet nominees. among them his pick for education secretary, betsy devos and interior secretary nominee ryan zinke.

and intelligence. the president did not answer any questions from reporters today but did say that he would be back in the briefing room tomorrow for his final news conference as president: oakland's mayor is holding a special meeting to approve a city ordinance aimed at protecting tenants from eviction. it comes after 36 people were killed in the go ship warehouse fire in oakland last month. since then landlords have been cracking down on illegal living spaces. this week the mayor issued an executive order to bring warehouse spaces serving as homes under compliance. property owners will get 60 days to correct building and code violations. the special meeting is planned for next week. new details on the conditions of the two members of the r&b funk band tower of power who was struck by a train near oakland's jack london square. they were critically injured before their gig at yoshi's thursday night. drummer david garabaldi is in fair condition. bassist mark van waginigan is

responsive but still in critical condition. a benefit concert is planned tonight. it will feature the music of tower of power along with special guests. the concert starts at 8 tonight in oakland. more bay area headlines. while the state moves forward with marijuana legalization, contra costa county is saying not so fast. the board of supervisors is voting on whether or not to extend a temporary ban on the growing and selling of commercial pot. this comes as lawmakers consider a regional approach to determine new rules after voters passed prop 64. a key vote tonight that could bring ice skating back to the peninsula. there's been no place to skate since the closing of the rink. the city council will hold a public hearing tonight at the current site of the burlingame golf center. the meeting starts at 7. happening now, breaking ground, we're live as the warriors take the next step

with private money. kpix 5's jackie is at the event with the latest. >> reporter: michelle, i have to tell you i have never been to a fancier ground breaking ceremony. usually you go, you look at a big pile of dirt. people put some shovels in and scoop some dirt out. this is quite a production here in mission bay. we had to get here as the media probably two and a half hours before the event even started, and even then hundreds of people showed up around 11:30 to support the warriors. there's a lot of excitement around this new arena. of course there's a lot of controversy as well, but today it's all about the party and the future homesite of the golden state warriors. it's like a mini concert in there. there were gospel singers singing earlier. they have a band. they have large monitors inside. it's quite a production. we do expect a lot of the golden state warriors organization to speak today. coach is here, and it just kicked off at noon. so right now we are underway.

we are standing outside of the event because we're not allowed to go live from inside the event, but it's been a fun day. i mean this site is 11 acres here in mission bay and it is right next to the hospital. right now we're going to go straight through to show you some renderings of the arena we have. head coach steve kerr and star forward kevin durant are a few of the people here to represent the warriors organization. san francisco mayor ed lee is also here. the 18 ,000-seat arena will be part of an 11-acre area that will be home to restaurants, cafes, offices and public plazas and it will be near b.a.r.t. and muni stops. the big question that remains is what will happen to oracle. east bay taxpayers may be responsible for tens of millions of dollars to keep oracle possible. there's talk about a potential wnba team moving in.

the lease of the arena ends this year. the warriors are privately funding this entire project of the arena and it's not something that will affect san francisco's general fund. it won't affect san francisco's taxpayers. this is a vision we talked about and introduced to the public in may 2012. here we are four and a half years later breaking ground on a project that is expected to only take two and a half years. this new center will hopefully be ready to go for the 2019/202nba season. in san francisco, jackie ward, kpix 5. thank you. right now we're learning it could take up to six weeks to repair a massive sinkhole in pacifica. earlier today crews were busy filling the 40-foot wide hole. the pavement collapsed on highway 1 during last week's storms. the repair work is critical because the hole is near a fire station. another sinkhole opened up at the same intersection a few months ago, but this one is

three times the size. take a look at this animation from nasa. this is animation of that river of moisture that deluged california last week. the pineapple express dumped more than a foot of rain last week. nasa says it's a water vapor equivalent of seven times the flow of the mississippi river. a live look outside right now, we are under a spare the air alert today as chillier temps and wet weather moves toward the bay area. a reminder, the alert bans wood burning and fireplaces and stoves. and we have another storm poised offshore. we have the kpix high-def doppler up and running. it seems as if for no reason, no echoes appear but we just have to look elsewhere. there it is, off cape mendocino. first indication the next in a series of storms on the way to the bay area deceptively clear. a nice day as we head towards

marin county. nurse still on the chilly side -- numbers still on the chilly side as we head past noon. it's 47 degrees, 44 in livermore and 50 in san jose. a chilly tuesday underway but dry. not for long as that jet stream punches through, the high pressure that's been offshore sends a stream of moisture towards the bay area. these storms are fast moving. they're not going to dump as much rain as the pineapple express that michelle was opining about a moment ago. nevertheless it will get wet. let's set it out. tonight by 7 you can see the first faint echoes beginning to appear off of lake and sonoma counties. and then watch this. by tomorrow evening, ham, that front is up there in the north bay at 6:00 just in time for the evening commute and lighter showers elsewhere. thursday not much really. thursday we get a break. then here comes friday. now we get the morning commute on friday getting kind -- the weather's on again off again kind of ends to the week. today we get some high clouds, increasing clouds tonight, rain

antibiotics may be more widespread than previously in our health watch today, a dangerous strain of super bugs resistant to most antibiotics may be more widespread than previously thought. that's according to a study published in the proceedings of the national academy of sciences. according to the cdc, the super bug known as cre tends to spread in hospitals and is responsible for 600 deaths per year. experts recommend cleaning medical equipment thoroughly to prevent cre from spreading. wal-mart is planning to create 10,000 u.s. jobs this year. the retail giant plans to do that by opening and remodeling stores and investing in its e- commerce business. wal-mart says that there will also be about 24,000 construction jobs generated by its expansion plans. general motors announcing $1 billion investment in its u.s. factories. the investment will create or keep about 1,000 jobs in the u.s. both announcements come
