beginning to ramp up after a night of light rain. there's pretty good cells coming over in the east bay around rain ton, berkeley, and -- around kensington, and berkeley. there are high surf warnings, flood watchs, high wind advisories, winter storm warnings. there's a lot on the way. the rain didn't scare off the estimated 100,000 people who hit the streets of san francisco for the women's march today. protesting president trump. chopper 5 captured civic center plaza before the march started. you can see it's absolutely packed. many with umbrellas and signs, one flag read, don't give up the ship. and kpix5 was live outside city hall, lit up in pink tonight. >> reporter: the mayor of san francisco tweeted it would be lit up in pink in solidarity with the women's march. we were in the thick of it earlier, and with all those people, san francisco police

say it was peaceful with no arrests. the energy's been so good, and so kind, and so loving. it's like love wins. >> i care about women's rights, immigrant rights, i care about all of our right, and i want something to change. >> reporter: market street from civic center, frustrated. >> it was america great. was he reefing to the 1950s? it's now our time to stand up to those people. >> when i first saw that trump was going to be running for president, i said, this has got to be a joke. and now it's reality. it's still a joke! >> reporter: patricia started her day at the women's march, moving to oakland, and san francisco. >> we've covered a lot of ground. >> if they had it in

lawyers will see this, and impeach him. >> reporter: the march started here at city hall, but ended at the financial district with the group gathered, and before 8:30 this evening. reporting live, kpix5. >> it wasn't just san francisco. protestors hit the street across the bay area. oakland police just raised the estimate for that city's march to 100,000. as we mentioned earlier, there's an estimated 100,000 in san francisco as well. about 25,000 rallied in san jose. we had reporters in the thick of the demonstrations. >> reporter: i'm in oak hands, where the shoulder to shoulder crowd started to form at 10:00 a.m. a sea of pink hats, and protest signs flowed down the street with messages to president trump. >> to me, it's about unifying people, and showing that people care about each other. >> reporter: it's only half a mile from madison park, but this went the long way around,

stretching for two miles to be seen and heard. for some families, this march was the first time that generations are coming together for a common cause. harvey brought his wife, daughter and granddaughters. >> i'd like to be someone who will stands up and say, we don't agree with that when things happen that we don't agree with. >> reporter: today, she is fighting for civil right. >> we will not allow them to roll back women's rights, roll back anymore of the voting rights. marchers say they will be watching he have step president trump's administration makes. >> reporter: the street were gridlocked in san jose with 25,000 marchers. for this family, today's march is less about the steps, but more about the statement

they're making for their daughter ava. >> why are you here? >> supporting women. i want to make sure that -- >> reporter: she may not be old enough to understand, and she isn't old enough to vote, but one day she will be. and when that day comes, mom and dad want her world to treat her well. >> i want to make sure it's known this isn't okay. >> and those numbers were in the tens of thousands in san jose. they chanted and cheered and held signs high, hoping they'll be heard, and that that will help make a change. >> thanks in parliament to the marches, mass -- part to the marches, mass transit was

packed. they say the busiest stations were civic center in san francisco. all of the rallies were sister marches to a bigger event in washington, d.c.. melissa was there and spoke to bay area protestors who traveled to the nation's capital. >> reporter: if yelled was a day for red hat, today was the day for pink. as thousands of women and men descended on washington, d.c., to put president trump on notice. >> my mom called me after the election, and said let's march, i said i'm in. >> reporter: the crowd was massive. >> we've met a ton of people who have come out to let our voices be heard. >> i think a lot of us will take the energy back to the community. that's the key part of why we decided to come out here. >> reporter: the buses started arriving early. the nation's capital transformed into a sea of pink,

women, men, daughters, sons, grandmas and grandpas. many wearing pink hats, and carrying signs with clever slogans, like tweet this. like we didn't come this far to only come this far. >> so many people -- it just appears to be the largest women's rights demonstration around the inauguration since the protests of woodrow wilson before 1920. >> reporter: alicia keys is just one of the celebrities that took the stage. >> we want the best for all americans, no hate, no bigotry, no muslim registry. >> reporter: madonna, never one to shy away, had this to say. >> yes, i have thought a lot about blowing up the white

attracted mostly religious groups, and people who came with churches. some traveled from as far away as wyoming. thousands of them packed civic center plaza to spread their anti abortion message. they say abortions can be a damaging experience. >> that horrible memory of that time in my life would go away. i was completely wrong. my abortion caused me depression, anxiety. >> it is about women's right. we know we have a choice, and the choice starts before the fetus arrives. >> people started to show up for the women's march during the pro life rally. despite that, everything stayed peaceful. back to the storm watch. plenty of fresh powered. drivers were taking it low on i -- slow on i 80, and highway 50 at ski run was mostly clear, but some resorts are not taking chanceing, sierra, tahoe and alpine will be shut down.

squaw valley will are limited operations and north star anticipates a delayed opening because of safety concerns. we will switch to the golden gate bridge. it's not so easy to see, but if we take it full frame, you can see the rain coming down in on the bed of the bridge, numbers are in the 40s and 50s. winds are picking up, at the airport in san jose, 44 miles an hour gusts. oakland, 36-mile an hour. napa, winds up to 25. it's gong to be a within -- going to be a windy and wet night. action is bay ride. the heavy stuff still off show around san francisco, you can see moderate rain moving in over the northern tip of the peninsula, and santa cruz, they will get hit but good. moderate rain is falling down there in santa cruz county. we have a strong line of cells coming through the bay area,

just before sunrise tomorrow morning, could be thunderstorms embedded in that, and looks like a break, but more comes in sunday afternoon about 3:00. you get a sense there will be rain from time to time after that band passes through before sunrise. and it will be an unsettled day. ponding on the roads, rapid rises on streams. as the low pressure deem pens closer to -- deepens closer to the bay area, and we could get more enhanced rainfall. massive surf at the beach, high surf warning poxed along the -- posted along the shoreline with 40-foot breakers. that's more than i can remember. 35-50 miles an hour. winter storm warnings for as much as 6 feet of snow above 7000 feet. we will get light rain developing and heavy rain and wind after midnight.
