maria? >> reporter: michelle, well, it is certainly gusty out here. it really isn't raining but the reservoir is filled to capacity. in pacifica this morning we saw it all. pacifica took a pounding as today's storm rolled into the bay area. some who live on this part of the coast say the storms this winter more powerful than in recent years. >> this winter seems a little rougher. i went through 7 years. >> while the rain eventually moved out of the area though morning, the wind never stopped. it's been raining heavily since we got here in pacifica. about 15 or 20 minutes ago, there's my umbrella -- again for the live shot. >> reporter: those were the conditions for the 5 a.m. live shot for the morning show, heavy rain and strong gusts. >> it's winter, yeah. that means it's just like it used to be. >> reporter: marina lived here for nearly three decades and

says the beating the coastline is taking is history repeating it self. >> lots of rain, strong winds, high surf. >> lots of high surf, lots of wind starts come over. >> reporter: just a few days ago crews demolished an empty apartment complex that sat on a crumbling cliff the third building on that stretch to be torn down in the last year. >> lots of damage. i feel bad for the people who have to deal with it. >> reporter: as pacifica makes multi-million dollar repairs left behind from last year's rain, many hope this year's storms don't add to the damage. in pacifica they are expecting 10-foot surf. out here at lexington reservoir, no rain but just wind before the next storm rolls in. maria medina, kpix 5. i just want to say hats off to maria medina. she was out in pacifica this morning in the driving rain and

wind gusts up to 39 miles per hour. now at lexington reservoir sustained winds 10 to 20 some up to 30 miles per hour. that's why we remain on storm watch right here at kpix 5. over the past 24 hours rainfall amounts just closing in on 3 inches in venado basically 11 miles outside of healdsburg in the north bay. in the santa cruz mountains ben lomond with over two inches of rain. santa rosa at the airport over an inch. closing in on .8" castro valley. san francisco .4". most of that was this morning. san jose approaching .4" of rain, as well. live hi-def doppler radar a little bit of precipitation off the coast right now but generally just anticipate pop- up showers. there's your evening commute. it will be wet. we'll have scattered showers through tomorrow morning. lingering showers tomorrow on saturday. most of the day will be dry. driest saturday night through sunday night.

until then a cold front bears down on the bay area. we'll tell you more later. thank you. roads glistened in the early- morning hours on market street. heavy rain. >> weather is affecting travel plans in the bay area. this is a live look out at sfo where 140 flights have been delayed. another 94 were canceled. san jose mineta and oakland airports are each reporting 13 flight delays. firefighters are dousing hot spots after a two-starry building caught fire in chinatown. chopper 5 got a look from above. crews broke through the roof of the building to relieve smoke. investigators say the building houses some 7 businesses an residences on the top floor. one person escaped the fire with minor injuries. crews faced challenges getting inside the building. >> the basements are where the

fire started. it's concrete floor from the first floor so we can't breach that. and subdivided with plywood and a lot of compartments and a lot of produce and other materials, refrigerators, things in the way. >> the red cross is helping the victims. no word on the cause of the fire. a san francisco sheriff's deputy is under arrest. officials say deputy april meyers is being charged with mail fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy. we are expecting more details on her arrest later today and we'll keep you updated. new at noon, the state department is saying fewer than 60,000 foreign visas have been revoked under president trump's travel band contradicting a state department lawyer who said the number was closer to 100,000. the executive order bans travel for people from 7 countries, iran, iraq, syria, sudan, somalia, libya and yemen. a white house panel of top business executives met with

president trump this morning. as kpix 5's anne makovec reports, there was at least one empty seat at the table. anne? >> reporter: some of the biggest businessmen in the country were there the leaders of blackstone, jpmorgan, gm and disney. but silicon valley basically sat this one out. they claim some of the politics are bad for business. uber's ceo travis kalanick declined his invitation to capitol hill today. he stepped down from mr. trump's economic advisory council yesterday. the immigration order against refugees and seven muslim majority countries caused problems for uber both with customers and drivers who didn't feel like uber was taking a strong enough stance against the policy. companies across the technology and biotech industries have condemned the order and silicon valley immigrants are essential to the companies in the area. robert rice was labor secretary in the clinton administration. >> you have to understand

there's been for many years a brain drain from other countries to the united states. a lot of that to silicon valley. >> reporter: 37% of silicon valley workers were not born in the united states. nearly three times the number of the rest of the nation. tesla's ceo did attend today's meeting with president trump. like uber's ceo, elon has experienced a backlash over his involvement but he will keep his seat on the advisory council. musk planned to tell the president that his travel ban is bad for business. some americans agree. 51% disapprove of president trump's executive order. it was divided along party lines. at this morning's meeting president trump also previewed some of his economic priorities. he expects to cut some of the financial rules put in place in response to the great recession. live in the newsroom, anne makevoc, kpix 5. meanwhile, president donald trump taking a strong stand

against iran today imposing sanctions on the country after it had missile tests this week. the sanctions affect nearly two dozen individuals and companies who have helped iran get missile technology. the move comes a day after the president put iran on notice for testing missiles. >> this administration is not going to be passive about what they perceive and what is rightly a very aggressive iran. >> iran's foreign minister has already responded saying that his country is, quote, unmoved by the u.s. threats. tense moments at one of the most famous tourist attractions in paris where authorities say they stopped an attempted terrorist attack. cbs' teri okita on the confrontation with a man carrying knives reporter: hundreds of tourists poured out of the louvre as french police in riot gear secured the iconic paris museum. just before lunchtime friday, a man armed with two machetes and two backpacks tried to enter the museum's underground shopping mall. soldiers patrolling the area tried to stop him and say he

lunged at them with a knife shouting, "allahu akbar," god is great in arabic. this photo shows the suspect on the ground after a soldier shot him. authorities checked his backpacks and found no explosives. [ whistles ] >> reporter: 1,000 people were inside the louvre at the time. a group of students from the university of georgia was in the room with the mona lisa when the museum staff rushed the crowds to a secure location in the building's basement. authorities warned them to huddle together and stay away from windows. this couple from new york saw children crying and say they immediately knew it was terrorism. >> that's what we're used to now. i mean, we have to learn to live with it, be vigilant. so we just listened to instructions from the security guards and did what they told us. >> reporter: a few hours after the incident president trump tweeted, a new radical islamic

betsy devos is about to be confirmed as president trump's's secretary of education. early this morning senate republicans voted to end debate on the education nominee advancing her to a full senate vote next week. the selection of devos has sparked protests across the country for weeks. critics say her support of voucher programs will divert resources from public schools. devos is a republican donor and advocate of charter schools. >> the real debate isn't betsy devos. the real debate is generations of kids that are stuck in underperforming schools! that is a travesty. >> the nominee for the secretary of education is one of the worst nominees that has ever been brought before this body for a cabinet position. >> if devos faces opposition from all democrats plus the two republicans already promising to vote no, she will have a 50/50 vote. in the senate, vice president mike pence will break the tie.

the u.s. job market is looking strong. unemployment is now at 4.8%. the labor department says employers added 227,000 jobs in january. and president trump says this is only the beginning. >> i think that we are big league bringing back jobs, we are bringing down your taxes. we are getting rid of your regulations. i think it's going to be some really, really exciting times ahead. and a live look at the big board right now. the dow is up 180 points! ! stocks are rising in part thanks to the report that employers stepped up hiring. president trump also just signed two new executive order to roll back wall street regulations. one of the orders repeals an obama administration directive that cracked down on payments and hidden fees from financial planners. the other directs the treasury secretary to find ways to revise the dodd frank act. that legislation was meant to prevent another banking collapse like the one in 2008.

the core of the center of the area of low pressure is close to the bay area. we'll see rain but not a lot. we have the rain throughout the evening commute going into your saturday morning. the bulk of saturday will be dry with just a scattered shower. and then all the way into sunday. but then watch what happens. there you have another front passing through the bay area with up to another inch of rain throughout most locations. we are still talking about a winter storm warning in effect for the high sierra three feet of snow total in the highest elevations. 50s and 60s high temperatures today. unsettled through tuesday. make it a great weekend. still ahead, we are answering your questions about pet health. today a problem for dogs kennel cough and how to treat it.

about "kennel cough." for that, we turn to dr. jill chase. graphic: kennel cough = tracheobronchitis >> his owner wants to know more about kennel cough and for that we of course turn to dr. jill chase. thank you for coming on. >> sure. >> all right. kennel cough. >> well, first of all, tell us about your friend. >> this is max. he was on one other time. he prefers not to be touched by anyone but his owners and me. >> nervous. >> feeling a little more comfortable. so kennel cough is actually inflammation of the trachea and the bronchi. it causes a nonproductive gagging cough. when the owner says they are making this very dramatic sounding cough, that in fact it's just irritation of the area. so every time that they cough they create more inflammation and it continues to lead to the cough so we treated it with sometimes cough suppressants and antibiotics. it's caused by virus and board tell and a bacteria.
