questions still linger over his conversations with the russian ambassador. >> reporter: president trump's national security adviser michael flynn step down monday night. dogged by questions. transcripts obtained by the u.s. intelligence committee and given to the white house show flynn repeatedly discussed obama era sanctions about russia with the russian ambassador to the u.s. shortly before the president took office. just wed, "the washington post" revealed the justice department warned the white house late last 92 flynn was potentially vulnerable to russian blackmail because of the calls. >> general flynn, it's a big week for general palestinian. >> reporter: kellyanne conway took to the airwaves in support of michael flynn. by the end of the day, the retired lieutenant army general would issue his reds nation letter admitting he

inadvertently had briefed the vice president elect and others with information regarding a phone call with the russian ambassador. the white house quickly named retired lieutenant general keith kellogg as his interim replacement. flynn's resignation is doing little to satisfy some democrats. >> did the president instruct general flynn to talk to the ambassador? >> reporter: representative elijah cummings of maryland is now calling for a fuel briefing from the fbi. in a statement, cummings wrote, we in congress need to know who else in the white house is a current and ongoing risk to our national security. and russia has reacted to the shake-up, overnight, a senior law official says it's a sign that president trump has them backed into the corner but that the white house has, quote, been by anti-russian sentiment.

the trump administration is under fire for some alleged lax security practices. one involving works on a massive security issue, the north korea missile test and some diners in a club in florida. >> reporter: shortly after the missile launch, photographs posted on social media so michael flynn and chief strategic steve bannon gathered around the president in a public dining room. it's not known what they were discussing, but the president and japanese prime minister read information by candlelight and made phone calls all while the first lady and others looked on. mar-a-lago club member richard posted posts on facebook. . and if the president discussed sensitive information it posed a security risk.

his second meeting with the foreign minister benjamin netanyahu. yesterday, he had a meeting with the canadian prime minister justin trudeau. both men talked about the count their differences particularly on immigration were hard to miss. >> we cannot let the wrong people in. and i will not allow that to happen during this administration. >> well, i think canadians expect is for me to come down and lecture another country on how they choose to govern themselves. >> regarding immigration, trudeau said canada continues to have policies of openness. a federal judge rejected a trump administration request to postpone a lawsuit challenging the president's travel ban. u.s. dict judge james robe bart ruled yesterday that the lawsuit can go forward. he had previously issued a temporary restraining order stopping the ban. that prompted a tweet from the president. see new court.

well after monday's ruling, the washington attorney general's office fired back, pleased to see judge robe bart reject trump administration's request to delay. we will, indeed, see new court. the treasury secretary steve mnuchin was sworn in last night following a key debate. he's expected to play a key role in overhauling the nation's tax code. crews are going to shore up a damaged spillway. the dam is located about 150 miles north east of san francisco. the potential failure of the emergency spillway forced the evasion wages of nearly 200,000 people. helicopters had been trying to shore up the troubled spots with rocks and water levels have dropped. officials say the evacuation order issued sunday remain. residents were forced to leave without notice. >> our phones went off like crazy.

we got this crazy alert saying everybody needs to be out of here now in 60 minutes or you're under water. >> more train is expected at the end of the week. the coast guard has suspended its search for a sinking ship in the alaskan waters. the ship hit rough waters saturday in the bering sea and its emergency beacon was triggered. searchers found only debris and an oil slick. they sent condolences to the family members of six crew members. the son of former penn state football coach sandusky faces charges. jeffrey san duckky was charged with sex crimes involves teenage girls. it was more than five years ago that jerry sandusky, his father was first protested on molestation charges. fire officials are investigating a fire at the main park garage in disney in

"the washington post" reports that 17 leading universities are joining the fight against president trump's travel ban. they filed a friend of the court brief yesterday. the schools which include all eight of those in the ivy league said the ban harms their student us and threatens their global mission. the austin american-statesman said a trial is likely in the $100 million lawsuit against lance armstrong. a federa

knicks game after the ex-player tussled with police last week. adam silver met with the pair and says they're both contrite. the latest issue of "playboy" says the magazine will be revealing once again. "playboy" is bringing back photos of unclad women reversing a year-old ban. the magazine with the #naked is normal. here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. on the "cbs moneywatch" uber delivers some cuddly cruisers. and another drug company is under fire for soaring prices. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more, good morning, jill. good morning, anne-marie. fed chair janet yellen testifies on capitol hill. today and tomorrow. most analysts say the fed will keep raising interest rates this year. we'll see what she has to say. and stocks continue to rally. the dow gained 142 points, the nasdaq climbed 29.

and the delay of an introduction of a drug following growing criticism of over its costs. marathon plans to charge $89,000 a year for a drug that treats genetic muscle problems. for about $1,000 a year. and a new report finds drivers involved in no fault accidents often see their insurance rates go up. the consumer federation of america analyzed premium quotes in ten cities. it found rate hikes after accidents after the insured was not at fault. about $400. the insurance trade groups says it's rarely clear cut in a collision and that insurance rates vary from company to company. a california woman is suing the company that makes mike & ike candy and hot tamales. both popular movie snacks. the lawsuit claims the candy's manufacturer falsely and deceptively md leads the

as many as 80% of adults will have back pain. now the american college of physicians is out with new guidelines on how to treat it. dr. jon lapook has details. >> reporter: 76-year-old berta axlerad has lived with chronic back pain for most of her life. >> the pain is just so terrible. >> reporter: she swears by exercise, yoga and walking. >> it minimizes the pain. it's not always easy. but it's much better than doing nothing. >> reporter: today's guidelines say the first line of therapy should be nondrug treatment for pain lasting less than three months. those include heat wrap, massage, acupuncture and spinal manipulation. the authors stress that

clinicians should avoid costly and potentially harmful treatments like narcotics. for pain lasting more than three months, treatments include stretching and strengthening exercises, tai chi, yoga and u acupuncture and mindless exercise. medications that can dull nerve pain like tramadol. >> it's often offered outside of the health care system >> reporter: dr. steven masters wrote an editorial about the guidelines. >> some of the guidelines way be a shot across the bow to insured to say that maybe we should be covering those items. >> rotate to your left. >> reporter: hospital physical therapist dana rose demonstrated some moves designed to bring relief.

>> by acclimating your core muscles to the joints to help minimize back pain. >> the recommendation to use nondrug therapies first is especially relevant right now when the country is facing an epidemic of opioid abuse. dr. jon lapook, cbs news, new york. our top stories this morning, president trump's national security adviser michael flynn resigned last night. flynn was if hot water over contacts with russian officials before there trump took office. and reports he misled v.ice president pence about the meeting. in his resignation letter flynn said he gave incomplete information about the meeting. general keith kellogg was named as interim. and president trump is being criticized for allegedly jeopardizing national security after the recent north korea missile launch. the president reportedly took the phone call about the test at a public dining area in the mar-a-lago resort in florida. the president and japanese prime minister read information by candlelight.
