good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, president trump is at the boeing aircraft plant in south carolina today, but this morning's headlines focus on his extraordinary, sometimes stunning back challenge news conference yesterday. the president did not hold back against the press being dishonest, saying the intelligence leaks are real but the news about them are fake and talking about his campaign links to russia. craig boswell begins our coverage. >> there's never been a presidency that's done so much in such a short period of time. >> reporter: in office for less than a month, president trump boasted about his accomplishments and brushed off reports of chaos at the white house. >> this administration is running like a fine tuned machine. >> he had to dismiss his acting attorney general, he faced an executive order which was rejected by three different federal courts, and then he had to take the resignation of his

national security adviser. that's never happened to any president in history. fine tuned machine off to a pretty rough start. >> reporter: but the president deflected blame. >> i inherited a mess. >> reporter: he also said the news media is out of control. >> the tone is such hatred. i'm really not a bad person, by the way. >> reporter: he also criticized leaks from the national intelligence community. >> they really feel like they have nowhere to go. they don't know who's running the government. >> reporter: the president dismissed any ties to russia calling it a ruse or a scam by the media. >> i own nothing in russia, i have no loans in russia, i don't have any deals in russia. >> reporter: he declined to say whether the white house would respond to recent russian aggression. they recently tested a ballistics missile, buzz ed a

ship, and sent a spy ship off the u.s. waters off the east coast. the chairman of the congressional black caucus says the white house has reached out to set up a meeting with the president. now, this follows one of the more startling moments during yesterday's news conference when the president asked a black reporter if she could set up a meeting with the caucus. >> am i going to -- >> are you going to include the congressional black caucus. >> well, i would. i'll tell you what. do you want to set up the meeting? o you want to set up the meeting? >> no, no, no. >> are they friends of yours? let's go. set up a meeting. i would love to meet with the black hawk caucus. i think it's great. >> one member of the black caucus jim clyburn of south carolina said there was an element of disrespect in mr. trump's request. question. the president announced a new nominee for labor secretary but a top candidate turned it down. today the senate is expected to hold the final vote on mr. trump's nominee to head the environmental protection agency. hena daniels is here in new york. good morning, hena. >> good morning, anne-marie.

the senate will hold a final vote on president trump's pick to lead the environmental protection agency. meanwhile the democrats held another all night session to block that vote, spelling more trouble for the trump administration. >> it is my conviction they are singularly unqualified to lead the environmental protection agency. that is scott pruitt. >> the reason we freak out about this one is very simple. clean air and clean water. >> many of them want time to examine thousands of e-mails the oklahoma attorney general exchanged with the oil, gas, and coal industry. a judge for the state ordered him to turn them over yesterday. >> why won't they give the american people the ability to find out what is inside of these e-mails before there is a vote here on the senate floor. >> but republicans disagree. >> scott pruitt is the right person to run the agency and we need to confirm him.

>> the nominee for secretary of the department of labor will be mr. alex acosta. >> the marathon session came on the same day the president held a combative news conference during which he named his pick to replace andy puzder for nominee after he withdrew his name for consideration. he also asked for the resignation. >> mike flynn is a fine person. i asked for his resignation. he respectly gave it. >> another turning down the offer citing disagreements about staffing. and the white house announced thursday it will not pursue an appeal of the suspension of the president's travel ban. instead mr. trump will issue a new executive order expected sometime next week. anne-marie.

>> hena daniels here in new york. thank you, denna. now, back to the president's news conference. mr. trump got some in-person fact-checking from nbc's peter alexander over a claim about the size of his electoral victory. >> you said today you had the biggest electoral margin since ronald reagan with 304 or 306. in fact, he got 365. >> i'm talking about republicans. >> george h.w. bush, 426 when he won as president. so why should americans trust you. >> i was given that information. i don't know. i was just given. >> i guess my question is why should americans trust you when you accuse the information they received as being fake when you're providing information that is -- >> i don't know. i was given that information. actually i had seen that information around. but it was a very substantial victory. >> mr. trump claimed 306

electoral votes, but two republican elect torls many texas went rogue, so he ended up with 304. three states put mr. trump over the top. the margin combined was more than 77,000 of over 129 million that were cast. ahead, jeff pegues looks into leaks. today in germany world leaders are getting an up close and personal look at the trump administration. mike pence is leading the u.s. delegation to the munich security council. the conference is known for providing an informal gathering of allies and adversaries to meet. many are expected to attend. well, no one was injured when two airliners clipped wings at a phoenix airport.

the faa says a southwest airliner was taxiing and a frontier jet was pushing back from the gate when the incident occurred last night. both planes were evacuated because of a fuel leak. the national transportation safety board is investigating. a strong storm system is moving over california today. it's the latest in a string of storms that has drenched the state. the most intense rainfall is expected today and tomorrow. the heavy rain could lead to more mudslides and flooding. high wind advisories are proposed for much of the state. a man was arrested at a hotel near the los angeles airport after pipe bombs were found in his denver hotel room. adam hayet was arrested yesterday many a hotel room in denver. hotel staff searched his room after he failed to pay his bill. he faces charges of having an unregistered explosive device. coming up on the "morning news," the bridgegate scandal moves on, a case against governor chris christie moves

our top stories this morning, president trump said his administration was a well oiled machine during a news conference yesterday. he said he's not aware anyone on his campaign staff made contact with russian officials. he said the intelligence leaks are real but the news about them are fake, and he blasted what he called the dishonest press. the president's choice to replace michael flynn as national security adviser turned down the job. retired admiral robert harwood cited disagreements about staffing. mr. trump said he'll roll out a new executive order on immigration, and today the president travels to south carolina to visit a boeing aircraft plant. many shops and businesses

nationwide were closed thursday when immigrant workers walked off the job to demonstrate their worth. jericka duncan reports. >> reporter: hundreds took to the streets of washington with one clear message. >> we're not bad people. we want to work. we want to pursue the american dream. >> reporter: those words were echoed across the country as thousands rallied from chicago to raleigh to minneapolis and scores of businesses including restaurants were shuttered. it was all in solidarity with immigrant workers who say president trump's deportation policies threaten their livelihoods and their future in this country. a third of american service jobs are held by undocumented workers. over 2 million immigrants work in the restaurant industry alone. >> every business on the street is generally open. none of them are today. >> reporter: ben miller from pennsylvania and his wife christina martinez who came here illegally from mexico own el
