flooded. crews taking people from their homes to safety using the boats. and they are going door-to-door to make sure nobody gets trapped inside. >> we are live right near the action. >> reporter: what a wild scene out here in east san jose. there is an active rescue going on here at the apartment complex south of this intersection. rescuing people. about a dozen at a time. they have an inflatable raft pier we heard they had 50 people pulled out of the flood waters. they think they have a total of 100 people rescued. the water is about 4 feet deep. up to the armpits of the rescue workers. a pair of rafts taking people to dry ground. when they are on land, they are decontaminated with soap and water and then taken to a shelter. everyone from infants, to the elderly, to pet, got caught up in these nasty floodwaters. residents say that coyote creek rows steadily overnight and

then went up sharply during the 10:00 hour and cut many of them off guard. >> what did you say to yourself? >> just trying to get all of our stuff out of the way. there is so much damage. >> so the fire department warned us that if we touch the floodwaters, we also would have to get decontaminated ourselves. they think they will be rescuing people for at least another hour or two hours. just a huge assassin east san jose. we will give you an update in about 15 minutes. kpix5. further south along coyote creek become along coyote creek, five people have been rescued at a homeless camp. the creek runs right through the golf course in san jose. officials say the flooding caught a lot of people off guard. >> we see the quick response from rescue officials. >> reporter: the flood warning is in effect. record water levels on the coyote creek behind me. you can see the tree struggling

to stand up right now. these swift waters here. and beyond that, a chain-link fence -- where we can see the water rising. 13 feet. flood stage is 10 feet. it has gone well above. should make the call came in just after sunrise that as many as 20 people were trapped in trees surrounded by rising floodwaters from coyote creek. >> the current was taking the people. they had to jump in. the current was too strong. >> these people were part of a homeless encampment near lost logos golf course swept up in the swan creek this morning. fire officials said they warned the campers days ago. but those rescued said the area flooded more quickly then they imagined.

>> anderson reservoir started overflowing its banks this weekend. the spillway, a waterfall cascading into the already swollen coyote creek, which runs from morgan hill come all the way to the bay. normally, this is only a shallow stream setback between the trees. >> this is an area where typically, we don't have water issues. we have vegetation fire issues. >> san jose fire and rescue called for a helicopter to get a better view. when they did not see any more people trapped, they grounded the chopper so they could listen for screams for help. some of the campers made it out themselves. >> i was stuck in the tree. i got a log and got it loose. i floated down to my friend who helped me out. >> in the end, five people were taken from the water and decontaminated. they all appear to be okay at least physically. >> everybody lost everything. all of their supplies. >> firefighters are ready for more rescues today. >> the water in the coyote

creek watershed is dangerous. it is swift moving. it is carrying debris from areas that have not seen water in years. >> reporter: we are expecting more flooding from coyote creek later today before the water finally starts to recede. live in san jose, kpix5. some parts of the bay area are getting a break from the rain. but don't put away the umbrella just yet. >> let's check in with roberta gonzales. >> reporter: some areas are getting hit hard with moderate to heavy downpours. according to the doppler radar. when you see the orange, that is moderate to heavy rain. we are seeing that now in the northern portion of the bay area. and into hercules -- hercules. look at the waves around lafayette. and around the corridor and throughout the tri- valley. wrapping around. this is a heavy shower over san francisco. around the bay bridge.

and into the berkeley area. we are looking at does this area outside of san jose -- 101 north on coyote road. that is where the flood warning is in effect until later tonight, with the flooding right now. we also have a flood warning in effect for santa clara county and san benito county. we will talk about the next storm heading this way. that is coming up later in the newscast. new at noon, uber is scrambling to investigate a new sexual harassment claim by a former engineer. our kpix5 reporter shows us how some top uber executives are getting involved. >> reporter: this uber meeting is happening as an independent investigation begins into the sexual allegation harassment charges. one uber board member is expected to be in attendance today. in a memo -- memo sent out uber, they said it has been a

rough 24 hours following the blog of a former employee posted online. susan fowler was a site reliability engineer for over a year. she said during her time there, she was sexually harassed by her manager. and when she filed a complaint, she was told that they would not feel comfortable punishing him for what was probably just an innocent mistake on his part. in her blog she said the manager was trying to stay out of trouble at work but he could not help getting in trouble because he was looking for women to have sex with. on cbs this morning, a new york times reporter that specializes in workplace conditions spoke on the allegations. >> part of what is so striking here is what did not happen. she did not bring a lawsuit. maybe she will but she hasn't yet. a lot of women are choosing to essentially try this in the court of public opinion. and come forward about what happened publicly instead of bringing the case to court. >> former u.s. attorney general eric holder and timmy over and

will be leading this investigation. in addition to huffington, recently hired chief human resources officer, will be at the meeting. these accusations are being called abhorrent. and anyone that works here that think that behavior is okay, will be fired according to him. kpix5. president donald trump says he is living up to his campaign promise to get tough along the us-mexico border. craig braswell is at the white house with immigration guidelines just announced this morning. >> president trump took a tour of the smithsonian museum of african-american history and culture and gave remarks about african-american accomplishments . >> i am deeply proud that we now have a museum that honors the millions of african- american men and women that built our national heritage. >> he also denounced recent threats against several jewish community centers around the country. >> it is a very sad reminder

of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil. >> at the same time, the department of homeland security unveiled sweeping new guidelines that could lead to more deportations and detentions of undocumented immigrants. those guidelines include, the immediate return of mexican immigrants apprehended at the border, hiring 15,000 more agents to carry out immigration enforcement for ice and the border patrol. parents can be prosecuted for paying smugglers to bring their children across the border. resident obama's doc a program which allows people brought to the u.s. as children to obtain work visas will remain. >> the new guidelines include a directive to shift money to begin the immediate design and construction of a wall along the mexican border, something president trump insist that mexico will play for -- will pay for. >> mexico says they will not

there was smoke everywhere. >> the plane was bound for qing island near tasmania off the southern coast of australia. at least two of the men on board were reportedly planning to play golf on the island's famed courses. cbs news, new york. a coyote created quite a scene this morning managing to run out on the tarmac at the airport. dodging workers that were trying to get him off the runway. now flights could land or take off while he was out there running around. eventually, the coyote did run into a parking lot and back to some trees. here is a live look at the doppler. you can see where the rain is now. scattered all over the place. >> continuing storm watch coverage. flooding along coyote creek in san jose. it is not just people affected. doppler five was over a stable area where some horses were trapped by the floodwaters. this is south of kelley park.

we will keep monitoring that situation and make sure the animals are well taken care of. and in santa clara county, this area has been -- has not been as hard-hit as everyone else because of the rain shadowing effect from the santa cruz mountains. but not this time. yesterday, the international airport had a record amount of rainfall surpassing the old record by a full inch. the doppler radar picking up scattered showers in the north bay and in the south bay and east bay. look at the layers and layers of rain showers stretching from modesto, into tracy, aaron, antioch, walnut creek. also right there in the santa cruz mountains. more rain where they do not need it. and we are seeing a rain shadow effect now in san jose after seeing plenty of rain showers early this morning. north bay and along highway 101 into 37. again, where we do not need the rain. seeing moderate to heavy

downpour is at this early hour. that is why we have a flood warning in effect until later on tonight for central sonoma county. this encompasses this area of flooding. the santa clara county area, coyote creek, parts of san jose, we have record flooding as well. this is the live camera looking toward the golden gate bridge. look at the windshield wipers. it is raining there. you see the flag. we have breezy conditions. temperatures are in the 50s. 59, san francisco. breezy all day. about 15-16 miles an hour. it is nine miles an hour now in san ramon. lighter wind in santa rosa. three things to remember today. we will have the continuation of scattered showers throughout the day. and thunderstorms around. mainly dry weather wednesday through the weekend. then the rain amounts will not

be as bad as they have been. this is the weather watcher bill. he reported a thunderstorm. over an inch and a quarter of rainfall today. thank you for that report. he said he had heavy downpour's with that thunderstorm. not detected that on the radar. but it does not mean it did not happen. showers today. breezy wind out of the south. we will pick up about three tenths of an inch before it is all said and done tomorrow. the high sierra -- another 14 inches of snow on top of the 24 that fell at north star. 42, heavenly valley. our numbers are up to about 60 degrees today. the official sundown is that 55:00 p.m. and you will not see any sunshine. we will -- we have had some rainbow sightings today. you cannot have rainbows without the rain. dry weather wednesday through

friday. a cold front of the weekend will collide with the atmospheric river. showers saturday and sunday but not as heavy as it has been. >> seeing a break. >> yes. we want to check back in on the flooding situation right now in san jose. >> we are going live to work crews have been rescuing people out of their homes the. >> reporter: still a very active scene or check out the scene across the street. these are victims who were boarding a bus. we are talking the elderly and people with pets, caught up in these floodwaters. this worker is checking their tags to make sure they have been properly decontaminated before they get on the bus and go to a shelter. rescuers are still going at it. as time goes on, funky stuff floating into the waters. getting nasty by the hour. the last headcount we got was well over 50 people rescued. i think you have a total of 100 victims to get. residents say the floodwaters of coyote creek grew steadily

over night. then it went up sharply in the 10:00 hour. firefighters are taking a half- dozen come up to a dozen people at a time with two boats. some people are having to wait a couple hours for help. went on land, there decontaminated with soap and water. they think the floodwaters will not reseed until at least 3:00 tomorrow morning. kpix5. it is time to say goodbye to one of washington dc's biggest stars. >> that is next. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

the 3-year-old giant panda was born at the smithsonian's national zoo in 20- 13. kristen e's been sadly, it is time to say goodbye to bao bao, the 3-year- old giant panda that was born at the smithsonian national zoo in 2013. we see how she is getting ready for the big trip to china. >> she has officially begun her journey to china. just a little while ago, we saw her being taken out in a crate loaded into a fedex truck. and eventually will be delivered to the special panda express airplane just outside of dc. this was a bittersweet moment for many here at the zoo. volunteers and animal traders who have been with the panda sense she was born, when she was just about the size of a stick of butter. one we have talked to is also excited for this new chapter.

they knew she would eventually move to china to participate in a breeding program. the trip is no easy feat. it is 16 hours. but she is ready. animal traders -- trainers have been getting her used to the crate and getting her comfortable. eventually closing the doors to make sure she wasn't scared. traveling with her today, one of the trainers that has been with her since birth, as well as a veterinarian to keep a close eye on things. unlike most of us, she has no carry on restrictions. and those traveling with her are bringing roughly 55 pounds of her favorite snacks including sweet potatoes and bamboo. the trainer will stay with her until she gets adjusted. here at home, her brother will be essentially moving into his older sister's room. just as the zoo starts preparing for mating season. zookeepers are keeping are fingers crossed that the parents will bring a new little panda to the u.s. and washington reporting, kpix5.
