the ties to russia. both the associated press and cnn reported the white house chief of staff pressed fbi officials to publicly downplay communication between members of trump's campaign and russian intelligence officials. the fbi refused the alleged white house request. president trump is also expected to sign another executive order at the white house today and meet with former rival and critic, ohio governor, john say s kasich. >> thank you. president trump called efforts to remove undocumented immigrants a military operation. homeland security secretary, john kelly said there will be no use of military force. press secretary sean spicer said he used the phrase to describe the precision for which

problems with kids walking on his lawn grabbed a 13-year-old. he said the teen threatened to shoot him. it was the officer who fired his gun when a number of teens assaulted him. no one was hurt. two teens were arrested. the officer was not. everyone may still face criminal charges. >> as a father and as a a national guard operation. the camp had to be cleared ahead of spring flooding. this morning, we are learning u.s. backed forces gained control of mosul airport. the route began this week controlling the airport and military base next door was critical to retaking the city. the u.n in tiny amounts.

blizzard. >> reporter: good morning, everyone. watching the storm move from the plains to iowa and minnesota and parts of wisconsin all seeing the heavy snowfall today. we are watching a line of storm that is will develop toward the late afternoon and evening. that's the warm air. severe weather potential highest in indiana as well as ohio, northern kentucky and the detroit area of michigan. unusually warm air coming together with strong winds could have damaging winds and isolated tornadoes late today and into the evening. dozens of record highs again in the east today, forecast 80 in nashville. around 80 in charleston and 60s in boston and the 70s in philadelphia. we are going to watch a change as we head into the weekend and a preview of next week taking over the western half of the country. still, looks like we are mainly above average in the southeastern states as we end february and kick off march, i'm

dogs, of course, are man's best friend. one california pooch would surely say his best friend are firefighters. the pet was saved wednesday from a cliff in a san francisco park. rescuers say the dog was friendly as could be the whole time. fame, room to play and plenty of bamboo, what's not to like. bao is settling in. she is now going to be part of a breeding program. a keeper will stay until bao bao learns the lingo. agriculture is no longer a growth business. they are being squeezed by rising costs and falling crop prices. the story from david. >> reporter: in america's heartland, the american dream is in crisis.

>> people are going broke right and left. >> reporter: he is a farmer in kansas, who is 62 years old, says he is barely breaking even. >> corn sold for $8 a few years ago. i sold mine this year for $2.87. it don't pay the bills. >> reporter: an increase in worldwide production is contributing to a decline in prices like corn and wheat. the cost of operating a farm is steadily increasing. the department of agriculture predicts farmers incomes will drop 9% this year, extending the worst slide in generations, as a result, farm operations expected to close on top of the 140,000 that closed or consolidated in the last nine years. in kansas, this 34-year-old and his younger brother tim, are fifth generation farmers. >> you have guys my age that are trying to raise a family, trying

to farm and having to work in town just to produce cheap food for the country. it's a crisis. >> reporter: they say they spent $34,000 farming wheat and other crops but they only brought in $35,000. they may have found a solution. they now sell cattle and cut out the middleman. if they slaughter, process and sell directly to the consumer, each head could be worst $2800. with an uncertain future for farmers, they heap the family farm will survive. >> we are going to lose another generation of farmers per roll

a trail blazing photographer who captured life from harlem to hollywood released his first book. michelle miller has his pictures and his story. >> i love you, man. wonderful. >> reporter: at a recent book signing in harlem, the 80-year-old photographer was on full display. >> i have never had a book. >> reporter: it started in rural ohio, growing up in the midst of the great depression. in 1958, he became one of the first african-americans to earn a degree in photography from ohio state. he decided to write a letter to the only black photographer he ever heard of, gordon parks, the

images of the jim crowe south. >> you can live here with my family and work with me at "life" magazine. >> he would work with parks for two years before pointing his own lens toward every day life. he says it took more emotion than skill. >> i feel that's what i do when i take a picture, i feel it. when you get that rush or that feeling inside. i have it, i know i have it. i felt it. >> reporter: by the mid-'60s, he was capturing celebrities like sammy davis, sarah vaughn and mick jagger. it would be on movie sets like "on golden pond" where he would make history, becoming the first african-american hollywood still photographer. what reaction did you get? >> first of all, when they saw me, they assumed that i was there to deliver something. what's this black guy doing
