continues into how a small plane went down in a southern ood as it a devastating plane crash, the investigation continues into how a small plane went down in a southern california neighborhood as it headed home to san jose. good afternoon. the crash happened late yesterday shortly after the family took off from an airport in river side. when firefighters arrived, they found the structure fully engulfed and a nearby home also on fire. no one was inside the homes and

ought victims were initially on the flight. firefighters say there were risks involved. >> we had saveable lives inside a burning building. the structure was well involved, incident command system was put in place and we put our firefighters across southeast texas risk and put them in place because of saveable lives yesterday. what took place is we had two rescues that we still have two patients living today. >> our kpix5 reporter is at san jose airport with a break down of what happened. >> reporter: this is where the people were trying to fly home to yesterday. today faa, ntsb, and local fire department are continuing to dig through the wreckage. here is what we know so far. the cesna310 left the airport around 4:40 yesterday afternoon and crashed into a home in a nearby neighborhood shortly after take off. five people were in the plane, one adult male, three adult females, one teen girl.

they were on their way to san jose after going to a cheer leading competition in disneyland. the male, teen, one adult woman died. two of the deceased remained in the wreckage. one of the bodies was removed yesterday. when the plane crashed into a home, there was a loud explosion followed by heavy smoke and huge flames. police say it is incredible that no one on the ground was hurt. >> it is extremely remarkable. there was one person in the first house behind me at the time of the crash. he was able to get out unharmed. >> reporter: police say parts of the airplane spewed across the neighborhood when it crashed. a couple homes were severely damaged and others will need only minor repairs. people in surrounding homes were able to return to them last night. both survivors remain in the hospital today, both following surgery. one is listed as stable and the other is in critical condition. >> the superintendent of union

school district putting concerns to rest. students were on board the plane and she wrote in a statement all middle school students returned safely from the trip. we have not received confirmation regarding identities of the victims of the plane crash. a female engineer is speaking out and suing tesla for allegedly ignoring complaints of pervasive harassment. according to the guardian the 33 year old claims she was paid lower salary r the same work as men and less qualified male counterparts were promoted over her. tesla has not commented. california representatives to prove the use of marijuana testing kits. it would let officers start using a road side saliva test to determine whether a driver consumed marijuana. the proposal will go to state senate floor at a later date for final vote. president trump is giving himself a plus for efforts, a for achievements during his first month. he agrees he has not done well

following the speech, we'll have a special edition of news at 7:30 followed by primetime cbs line up of shows. a memorandum of understanding has been signed in san francisco. the district attorney met with the council general of mexico to sign the document. it is designed to protect immigrant victims of violent crime specifically hate crimes. a pleasanton school district considering safe haven status. today the board will consider a resolution protecting families facing immigration enforcement or discrimination. the resolution would bar ice agents from entering sites without prior written approval. tonight the city of santa cruz look to strengthen protection for all residents regardless of immigration status. city council will meet to consider a law banning the city and employees from assisting in future immigration enforcement operations. there will be an

investigation into what happened when a california representative was removed from the senate floor. the senator was ushered off the floor when she refused to stop her speech about former senator tom hayden and activism opposing vietnam war. now a state senator wants the rules committee to look into what happened. he released this statement reading in part the tools of our trade are our words and ideas and as such we should always air on the side of more free speech and not less. last thursday we failed to keep faith with this historical standard. a 12 year old boy recovering in the hospital after being hit by car. san francisco fire department got the call just before 9:00 this morning. the accident happened on ocean and victoria in the english al side terrace neighborhood. officers say the driver is cooperating and are told that the boy has broken bones but is expected to be okay. new details on a death investigation in santa rosa. we know that a man has been arrested for reportedly killing
