good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. thanks for joining us. i'm hena daniels in for anne-marie green. president trump said attorney general jeff sessions did nothing wrong, but under mounting pressure from both democrats and republicans, sessions agreed to recuse helms himself from a federal investigation of an alleged russian meddling in the 2016 campaign. he met with a russian ambassador during 2016. good morning. >> good morning, hena. sessions said he didn't try to mislead anyone, but he acknowledges he should have been more careful in his testimony. top democrats say his recusal is not enough and he should resign. president trump irved a statement thursday night calling attorney general sessions, quote, an honest man, labeling

kushner and former national security adviser michael flynn both met with kislyak back in december at trump tower. they described meeting as an inconsequential hello that lasted for ten to 20 minutes. questions about russia's ties to the trump campaign will likely dominate a hearing set for next week as they name rod rosenstein as attorney general. if confirmed by the senate, he would oversee any investigation into the issue now that sessions has recused himself. hena? >> roxana saberi here in new york. thank you. ahead on "cbs this morning," we will discuss the sessions situation and where it will go from here with washington post political reporter ed o'keefe. rand paul pushed for a look. followed by cameras, paul tried to gain entry into a room in

congress where he said a draft of the republican reform prop e proposal is being kept. paul says the new measure does not go far enough to repeal obamacare. turns out paul had the wrong room. he was standing outside someone's office. vice president mike pence told a group of ohio businessmen the trump administration will repeal and replace obamacare. >> the american people know the truth. obamacare has failed and obamacare must go. this failed law is crippling the economy and putting an enormous weight on american families. >> pence said the affordable care act placed a heavy financial burden on small businesses. it's reported that vice president pence used a private e-mail account to conduct state business when he was indiana governor and it was hacked. "the indianapolis star" reports pence used his personal aol account to communicate with advisers on homeland security matters among other things. the account was hacked last spring before he was chosen to join the gop ticket. pence frequently criticized

hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail account when she was secretary of state. two more of president trump's cabinet nominees have been confirmed. the senate confirmed ben carson, secretary of housing and urban development, and former texas governor rick perry as energy secretary. in the past perry had said he would do away with the didn't of energy. president trump used america's newest aircraft carrier as a backdrop to make his case for a military buildup. in his budget proposal, the president wants to add $54 billion to defense spending to, in his words, project american power in distant lands. david martin reports. >> reporter: nothing symbolizes american military mite more than an aircraft carrier, which is why president trump went aboard the navy's newest carrier, the "gerald r. ford" to support the

>> not only price went through the roof but the schedule just became terrible because there were so many new technologies and it was so unproven. >> reporter: the "ford" is expected to cost just under $13 billion, and that's not counting the aircraft it will carry, including the f-35 joint strike fighter, which will cost the navy close to $100 million a copy. david martin, cbs news. this morning new rounds of air strikes reportedly targeted suspected al qaeda targets in yemen. reuters reports unwitnessed accounts of unidentified drones and helicopters believed to be american and deployed troops on the ground. yesterday the united states said it carried out 20 precision strikes in yemen, the first major u.s. operation there since january. just released video is at the center of a civil rights lawsuit 'ledging a georgia teenager was killed by deputies. in august 2015 deputies pulled over nicholas dyksma following a chase. his parents say he had been

sleeping in his truck, was startled, and drove away. video shows the deputies tased him and put him to the ground. one deputy put his knee on dyksma's neck. nearly 40 seconds passed. the county's district attorney is investigating. >> the case of vandalism at a jewish cemetery in new york is being investigated as a hate crime. more than a dozen headstones were overturned at a cemetery in rochester. this is the third known case of a jewish cemetery being vandalized in the past two weeks. tuesday marks the 52nd anniversary of a critical moment in the civil rights struggle. the 1956 march over the pettus bridge in alabama became known as bloody sunday. some 600 civil rights demonstrators marching to the state's capitol were attacked by coming up on the "cbs

"the baltimore sun" reports that a federal judge has ordered six police officers held on racketeering charges are to be jailed until their trial. the officers are members of a unique unit tasked with getting donees off the streets. they're accused of stealing money, drugs, and property off the baltimore residents. "the wall street journal" reports that european lawmakers are voting to strip french candidate of her pardoned immunity. they want to prosecute her for posting messages on social media showing islamic state brutality including bee heading of american journalist james foley. she's leader of france's extremely right national front parties. ryan zinke trotted up the

national mall on horseback accompanied by a posse of u.s. police. he's from white fish, montana. zinke heads a department that manages a fifth of our land in the u.s. including national parks. consumers products powerhouse proctor and gamble has revealed a new online campaign. it's called "we see equal." it doesn't promote a specific product. instead it's about the people that use them. it coincides with international "woman's day" on march 8th. on the "cbs moneywatch," amazon reveals what caused its cloud outage. and the first major car company offers an unlimited data plan. jill wagner is live at the new york stock exchange with that and much more. good morning, jill. >> good morning, hena. snap soared about 40% on its first day of public offering. in general stock on wall street pulled back from record highs. the dow lost 112 points, the s&p fell 14. nasdaq finished 42 points lower. it turns out a typo caused the amazon five-hour outage.

it crashed the amazon web servers on tuesday. amazon said an incorrectly-type command during a routine debugging of its billing system caused the problem. chevy is offering a plan. it's $20 a month, and it's good on chevy cars and trucks equipped with onstar, 4g lgt and hot spot. mexico's economy minister meets ford and general motors executives in detroit today. he'll discuss the state of u.s./mexico trade and the nafta agreement. president trump has vowed to leave nafta. also on the agenda, the president's threat to tax mexican exports. mexico hopes pressure from u.s. companies will keep the administration from resorting to those measures. and back to that snapchat ipo. one california high school made a golden investment. st. francis high school in mountain view, california, invested $15,000 in snapchat five years ago.

our tom story this morning attorney general jeff sessions attorney general jeff sessions agreed to recuse himself from any investigation into alleged russian meddling in the u.s. election. during his confirmation hearing sessions failed to mention that during the campaign he met twice with the russian ambassador. the latest installment of the series, "living stronger," looks at a texas officer who lives life to the fullest by embodying the spirit of the law. omar villafranca caught up with him. >> reporter: when officer arthur parker directs traffic in front of clark high school in plano, texas, the 57-year-old keeps the cars and his body moving, surprising some drivers.
