a few minutes later, and then, the fire engines came, we couldn't see any fire. >> reporter: contra costa said the fire started at the north end of the station, before 6:00 this evening. >> they found a lot of smoke from the electrical room, with explosions. >> at first, firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly, but couldn't put it out until electricians thought the power off -- shut the power off. >> it's a lot of energy that's in that room. >> reporter: as bart electrics arrived, things got back to normal, but michelle and others still have to wait on the train for nearly two hours. without power, and without access to a bathroom. >> it was kind of, you know, touch and go for a while. >> go in the bart cars, like in the car or bathroom? >> there's no bathroom, so they found a quiet little place by themselves, and went. >> reporter: contra costa says

the fire was no threat to the car and passengers, which is why they weren't immediately evacuated. the good news, nobody was injured. a dark and stormy night. a live look at the bay bridge, rain has been coming down for hours, and check out the heavy rain in san francisco. that's video from outside our studios in the financial district. >> dryers on the golden -- drivers on the golden gate bridge are dealing with wet road, and light showers hit the hillsborough neighborhood. >> the showers just blossomed over the peninsula, but it's moving to the east now. still, there's light showers reported over in the east bay, on top of the hayward fault. and down in part of the south bay, too, pretty good showers. pull back to give you more perspective, to show you moderate rain in san jose, and

into the hamilton range. where there could be a dusting the snow. we'll talk about what happens next, and when to expect sunshine. the other big story, violence clashes between pro and anti trump protestors rallies were held in dozens of cities, and while some were peaceful, the streets in berkeley looking like a hull and out -- all-out brawl. >> reporter: after protests and counter protests, beckley police arrested ten today. this is what the 2017 version of political discourse looks like. a rally for president trump was planned at martin luther king park in berkeley. but there's a counter protest, and anti trump forces were in

[ bleep ] as were the police officers. they officially took a hand-off approach to the battle that erupted the crowd. >> i feel they should have done some of it sooner. there have been three or four fights. >> reporter: and focused on arresting instigators like these arrests our cameras captured. >> we were walking away, and they started to follow us for no reason. and we started to run, and they pulled over my run, and she started to run. it took 7 to take her down, for no reason. so i'm trying to figure out what they got her on. >> reporter: there are fires, pepper spray, and even at one point, eggs thrown at a man holding a sign about homelessness. the violence clashes waxed and waned for hours before finally get driven out of the park by berkeley officers and rain. another chance at finding common ground, a victim of a toxic political environment.

>> this is a sad day. we're better than this. >> reporter: four arrests were for assault with a deadly weapon. among the items con fist indicated was a knife -- confiscated was a knife. berkeley police put out a photo of some weapons they confiscated. they include a couple of baseball bats, with sticks of different lengths, including one with nails sticking out. around the u.s. some of the bigger rallies were peaceful. in the nation's capitol, people listened to pro trump speakers. in new york, people braved the cold and stood near trump tower. people held up flags and signs expressing support. president trump is firing off allegations about his predecessors. he's accuses president obama of may go on him. >> reporter: the president's tweets respect started with

that drips from the apartment above. this grandmother explains how her rent continues to climb, yet the landlord ignores the problems. >> it's a health risk, we have little kid here, no matter how much we clean, the water, mold, keeps coming back. >> reporter: the tenants said enough. and left a letter on the door. >> we just want to talk and let him know. >> reporter: once the at the point instants left -- tenants left, we knocked on the door. he refused to walk out. a representative from ace said they will continue to defend their rights. jackie ward. two violent crashes in the bay area leave one person dead, and three hurt. in san francisco, a big rig careened off 101 off paul avenue and crashed below. three people in the cab suffered minor injuries. a driver died when he crashed on the expressway near facebook headquarters.

a truck driver in canada survived two nights in his cab. it fell down an embankment. the driver didn't have a cell phone, and other drivers couldn't find him. rescuers still needed a day to find him. a mechanic had to remove the tran mission. new video of a dangerous stunt a motorcycle rider leaping over a busy highway as cars speed by below. tom wait on the stunning video, and questions about safety. >> reporter: a dirt bike sails over the 60 freeway in riverside county, a mind- boggling stunt that would make anybody do a double take. before launching the rider can be seen accelerating up a dirt

rooms. it is the first big infusion of money for california's high speed rail. the question, will it be the last? the state approved the bonds to start construction in the central valley. but billions more will be needed. the plan is to seek matching fund from washington, but that could be tough since the republican controlled congress does not support the high speed rail project. getting to mardi gras next year will be easier, because united airlines is expanding service between san francisco and new orleans. right now, nonstop is seasonal, but the airline says daily non stops will begin rear round in june -- year-round in june. after recent storms, a crumbling bridge in big sur with a landslide have cut off

a close eye on the reservoir. spillway was dry today. last week, water was pouring from the reservoir spillway. and as a result, thousands were forced from their homes. earlier today, volunteers in san jose were cleaning up the mess from devastating floods. people were removing mud, blanches and debris. this area, kelly park, was up 6 feet the water. a park manager said volunteers are a critical part of the recovery. >> it's been just, yeah, it's hard for me to talk about without being emotional of the without the volunteers, it's overwhelming for staff to do with our own resources. >> the city is organizing more volunteer clean up projects for tomorrow. sierra is getting fresh snow this weekend. check out the time lapse from the resort. you can see dark clouds moving

in. it's that time for a look at the weather, as we have rain reported officially as of 19 minutes ago at san jose airport, and light rain in other areas. the general tendency will be to clear it out overnight, not clear it out, but ease up the rain, and the numbers now, 51 degrees at concourse, san francisco, 50, and santa hose, 46 degrees -- santa rosa, 46. here's how it unwound overnight. a batch the moisture favoring the central bay. beginning about 6:00, when the rain came down, it felt good. we'll have more showers overnight. but we're going to taper them off. the rain's now moving east of wall in the creek in danville along the the 680 corridor, and we have rain over the

reservoir. now the action is moving over the observatory. there will be snow dusting the peaks. it's going to get cold, and chilly tomorrow. showers last through sunday, but the brunt of it was tonight. we'll just have showers from time to time tomorrow, and lingering chance into monday morning. futurecast shows that's happening overnight tonight, scattered light rain, but the most energetic front was the one that passed through. so tomorrow's, a can't-miss forecast. sun, clouds and rain. and winter weather alert means snow in the mountains through tomorrow, actually monday afternoon, as much as two feet of snow above 4000 feet. here's what we expect. it will dry and warm beginning on monday. napa valley marathon is
