57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. while this morning a potentially paralyzing blizzard is taking aim at the northeast, hundreds of flights have already been canceled for tuesday. here's why. a blizzard watch is posted for coastal regions including new york city and long island where up to a foot and a half of snow is possible. part of the storm is moving in from the plains. out who conditions plagued south dakota. in minnesota travel was treacherous. plows had a hard team keeping up with relentless snow. road crews are lined up and ready to go, but it's not just the snow people will have to deal with. the forecast also calls for powerful wind. meteorologist pamela gardner of our boston station wbz is tracking the storm. >> major storm across the

northeast monday and tuesday, but first we have one area of low pressure that we're tracking across the upper plains and the great lakes where we could see several inches of snowfall. that's going to combine with an area of low pressure in the south creating a northeast er creating a kind of blizzard condition as we have multiple warnings, advisories and blizzard watch and conditions expected from new york city all the way to southern new england. hour-by-hour timing? early tuesday morning the snow accumulation starts across maryland, pennsylvania, upstate new york, and then the snow continues to track through new england. and by tuesday evening, the system still is getting going in northern maine. now snowfall rates anywhere from 3 to 4, up to 5 inches per hour across the northeast. that means thundersnow is a likely thing you're going to experience, and the wind is going to be cranking up as the storm progresses to the north and east.

65-plus mile-per-hour gusts right along the coast. that means numerous power outages and damaging winds. here it, everybody. major numbers. 12-plus inches of snow from philly to even new york city. boston, we could see anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of snow. but keep in mind the track of the center of low pressure still a little wobbly, so we'll have more forecast updates as we get closer to the storm. i'm pamela forward never for the cbs news. well, the house intelligence committee wants president trump to produce evidence by today to support his claim that phones at trump tower were tapped. also today the congressional budget office is expected to release its report on the house republican plan to replace obamacare including estimates of how many people will be covered. the trump administration is already dismissing the report. one day after nationwide protests against the health care proposal, house speaker paul ryan defended the republican

plan to repeal and replace obamacare on cbs's "face the nation." >> how many people are going to lose coverage under the? >> i can't answer that question. it's up to the people. >> democrats say they're waiting for the nonpartisan congressional budget office to reveal today the costs on how much the plan will cost and how it will be funded. the plan is also facing opposition from republicans who say it does't go far enough. >> that's obamacare. we don't want that. >> and those who argue it could make things worse. >> i have written today this bill cannot pass the senate and i believe it would have adverse consequences for millions of americans. >> also on sunday speaker ryan said he hasn't seen any proof suggesting former president obama wiretapped trump tower during the 2016 campaign. but answers may come soon. the house intelligence committee has asked the justice department to turn over any evidence today. >> there are one or two possibilities here.

either the president quite deliberately for some reason made up this charge or perhaps more disturbing the president relate believes this. >> the committee's first public hearing on this matter is set for a week from today. president trump has yet to name replacements for the 46 u.s. attorneys he asked to step down friday. the list included high-profiled preet bharara. he refused to turn in his resignation and he was fired. the secret service say the man who jumped the white house fence late friday was carrying two cans of mace and a letter he had written to the president. president trump was in the white house at the time. jonathan tran said he was a friend of the president and had an appointment. a 3-year-old girl who was burned in a fire parentally started by a hoverboard has died over the weekend.

two other girls were critically burned. the fire was ruled an accident. mark hughes says he cannot believe his granddaughter is gone. >> my granddaughter, we can't replace her. the pan -- it's so deep. >> well, a fireman rushing to the fire in his car also died saturday. his car was hit by a 19-year-old driver who ran a stop sign in a stolen car, and police say she was driving under the influence. knew to ferguson, missouri, where michael brown was fatally shot by police back in 2014. well, a new documentary suggests brown didn't rob a convenience store just before he was killed. the store employees say that's not so. hena daniels has more. good morning, hena. >> good morning, anne-marie. this new documentary told from the perspective of michael brown's family lead to questions that lead up to the unarmed

18-year-old's death. the documentary shows brown traded marijuana for cigarillos and was coming back to get them, not steal them. the film "stranger fruit" is told from the perspective of michael brown's family. his mother joined the cast and crew on the red carpet at the south by southwest festival in austin yesterday. >> i was surprised to hear that two years later there was a video. >> the filmmaker claims newly uncovered footage proves brown did not steal from the convenience store he was accused of robbing before his fatal encounter with officer darren wilson. >> it was a misunderstanding. the video shows brown handing a bag. the 18-year-old walks toward the door and hands the bag back to the clerk before leaving. the director spoke with "cbs this morning."

he says brown traded a bag of marijuana for the items. >> he didn't take anything from the store and for the store to claim he took something and was asked for it back, why on earth would the clerk give him something, put it in a bag, and then realize, oh, by the way, give me that bag back. >> a lawyer for the convenience store says it doesn't pay for the facts. >> it's kind of a silly theory. >> he claims pollock removed part of the video showing the clerks demanding he pay for the cigarillos. michael brown's parents have filed lawsuit against the city of ferguson, the city's former police chief and officer wilson. the civil trial is slated for 2018. anne-marie? >> hena daniels here in new york. thank you so much, hena. well, ahead on "cbs morning news more on the documentary of the michael brown shooting. and the california police department is investigating an

incident involving one of its own officers. friday afternoon police chased a man who had been acting strange at a gas station. the suspect gave up but appeared to struggle when the officer tried to cuff him. the officer hit him with his fist and then a flashlight. the use of force continued after another officer arrived. a large one-story commercial building went up in flames in the fashion district of los angeles last night. no one was injured and it's unclear what caused the fire. nearly 200 firefighters were on the scene. march madness is about to break out. we now know the 68 teams in the men's ncaa basketball tournament. >> out of the west, there they are. the northwestern wildcats. >> one of those teams is northwestern university, which has good reason to cheer. a longtime loser in the big ten, making its first appearance in the tournament.

our top stories this morning, a major snowstorm is expected to hit the northeast beginning late tonight. a blizzard watch is posted from new york city, long island, and parts of connecticut where up to a foot and a half of snow is possible. and part of the storm is moving from the plains. snowfall rates could be 5 inches an hour accompanied by 65-mile-per-hour wind gusts. hundreds of flights have already been canceled. and today the nonpartisan congressional budget office is expected to release its analysis of the plan to replace obamacare. republicans are already dismissing the report, which is expected to conclude. more americans will be uninsured. some conservative lawmakers say the house plan doesn't go far enough to get rid of the affordable care act.

85 cities across the u.s. held "meet a muslim" event this weekend. a little more than 1% of the u.s. population is muslim and many americans have never met a person of the muslim faith. tony dokoupil explains it's better late than ever. >> reporter: it's been a bruising time in american politics and you might expect american muslims to feel bruised more than most. >> there's no better time to be a muslim in america than right now. although there's a lot of islamophobia happening out there, there's also a lot of is llama curiosity. >> reporter: but on saturday muslims across the country tried to fight fear of islam with friendly conversation and facts. >> as a muslim in america what do you find is the most common question or misperception that people have? >> probably the most common one is that jihad is a violent war against the -- there's nothing that allows islamic radicalism.
