i'm anne-marie green. well, a portion of president trump's 2005 tax return has been leaked. the white house said publishing the return is illegal but acknowledged mr. trump made more than $150 million that year. the president refused to release his tax returns during the campaign, breaking a long tradition. hena daniels is here in new york. hena, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. president trump will meet with auto executives in detroit today before holding a rally in nashville. the events come just a day after mr. trump confirmed details of a tax return he filed with his wife melania. >> what i have here is a copy of dona donald's tax returns. mosts before msnbc host rachel maddow revealed the documents on air. >> the first amendment gives us the right to publish this return. >> in a statement monday night

it shows mr. trump paid $30 million in income. a tax rate of 25% adding that it's totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns. msnbc said it received two pages from journalist david kchlt johnston who received a copy of the return in his mail bakraoui from an unknown source. >> it's entirely possible donald sent this to me. >> it comes as james comey was asked to respond to a letter, asking him to hand over any evidence. >> they're about to screw up big time. if they keep running to the intel committee and nottance that letter. >> they're also trying to salvage their health insurance plan after the budget office projected it would leave more americans uninsured than before obamacare was enacted. >> a mistake like mine that had

medicaid expansion, we have considers. >> the white house says it is now working to make changes to the bill. and the bulk of his tax bill, $31 million, was due to the alternative minimum tax in 2005, a tax that the president has previously said he wanted to abolish. in a tweet donald trump jr. to rachel maddow, quote, proving to your hate followers proving how successful trump is. we'll talk to john dickerson about the significance of mr. trump's leaked tax return. and big cities on the east coast were mostly spared a huge snowstorm. the packet of the massively winter system shifted and the predicted monster snowfall totals never materialized but the storm was still the biggest of the winter and some inland areas saw up to 2 feet.

blizzard posts remain in maine and new york with freezes in the deep south. it made for near white jouts conditions overnight near roanoke, virginia. today most mass transit is up and running and schools are open but at least three deaths were blamed on the storm and nearly a quarter of a million customers lost 8,000 over the past two days stranding thousands. kenneth craig has our report. >> reporter: parts of the northeast are digging out from the late season storm and also brought blizzard conditions to north adams, massachusetts. this tractor trailer lost traction on a boston bridge. drivers struggled to make headway in albany new york once they were able to dig out their cars. in delaware ice took town power lines and sent a tree crashing

into this home in wilmington. >> it's like a car accident. you see the car coming at you and you can't do anything about it. >> reporter: people in southern new jersey felt the coastal rain, snow, and sleet. >> feeling like a tiny icicle stabbing you in the face. >> reporter: the brunt of the storm missed new york city. the national weather service said a little more than 11 inches of snow fell here, just enough to delight these tourists. >> for those of us in los angeles, snow seems very romantic, but when you kwlo get out in it, it's a little more daunting than you'd expect. >> reporter: it would give plows a chance to clear runways before reopening on tuesday. but like many the poconos, the snow is welcome. >> reporter: meteorologists say the snow bonita won't gwon't go. it will stay 10 degrees below average for the next several

days. kenneth craig, cbs news, new york. >> you heard it from our meteorologist eric fisher of wbz. >> for some, we end up with historic snow totals especially around binghamton, new york. now, the snow continuing for parts of new england and new york state today. we'll see scattered areas of snow, strong binlds, and cold temperatures. there will be some additional accumulation as we head through wednesday, not at the same rate we saw the other day. the cold is pouring in. we're feeling it all across the u.s. temps 20 degrees below average over the next couple of days. after all that warmth, we're headed back to winter. low 40s at raleigh, 40s in atlanta, staying in the 60s in orlando, florida, and then by the time we wake up on thursday morning, a lot of teens and 20sing. 30s down to north florida and since we've had so many crops

bloom early, plants in the east, the mid-atlantic, h could leave some damage for a lot of them, especially the peach crop that bloomed early this year. we're watching for a little more snow. we head into st. patrick's weekend. rain and snow swinging through the northeast. we'll have to watch the storm on sunday and may continue to wat highway. one vick tame said a cell phone in his pocket -- rather a cell phone was in his pocket when he was shot. the come mmandant of the marines vowed to use whatever was at his disposal to hold

another marine, it's not who we are but it's illegal. >> reporter: the website is a by product of an ongoing problem of some male marines not accepting women in the ranks. >> don't you think this has kind of stepped all aover recruiting of young women? >> senator, we're talking to our recruiting folks because the urine irony is we're trying to increase the number of the women in the marine corps. this certainly, i would say, is not helpful. >> right. >> reporter: general kneller promises to do better starting with a trip to camp lejeune. folks on the southwest coast of florida are assessing damage after a pair of tornados caused destruction. at least 24 homes and other buildings were damaged. tony orr was watching tv when the twister hit monday night. >> i got down on my knees.
