immigrants. kpix 5's maria medina is in san jose where hundreds left this morning for a rally. [ speaking spanish ] >> reporter: before this man boarded the bus from san jose today, he shared what he claims he sees every day among family and friends. [ speaking spanish ] >> family is terrorized. by the actions that the president has taken. >> reporter: hundreds from the bay area, san jose, morgan hill, oakland and san francisco left this morning to head to the capital where 1500 statewide with expected to take part in what's being called the day of action. >> we will not stand for any law or force, federal or local, that is meant to divide us. >> reporter: want to let you know when the next bus is ready. >> reporter: crystal says their goal as to urge lawmakers to pass the california values act, which says no local or state resources will help the feds with mass deportations.

the group also wants to see the religious freedom act passed which bans a muslim registry. >> people scared to go to the grocery store to get out of their homes, it's that fear of i.c.e. coming in, of families being separated. >> reporter: in fact, he says people are so fearful of deportation, some are too afraid to share their stories on camera when kpix 5 asked for an interview. >> it breaks my heart. it breaks my heart. i know -- i know some of these people. >> reporter: alice lynch who is rallying today says their message is clear as well as loud because of their numbers. >> i do believe that numbers matter, that people do pay attention when people show up. [ speaking spanish ] >> essentially, we're the lifeblood of the economy. >> reporter: and a group who left san jose this morning as part of a faith-based grassroots organization. after the rally in sacramento they plan to hand over 62,000 signatures to the governor's office in support of the california values act. in san jose, maria medina, kpix 5. president trump kicks off a

busy day on the road with a trip to michigan to speak with leaders in the ought tro industry but as craig boswell reports, questions are swirling about his taxes after portions of his 2005 returns were released to the media. >> reporter: president trump arrived in michigan for meetings with automakers. general motors announced wednesday morning it plans to add or retain another 900 jobs across three michigan facilities over the next year before leaving dc, president trump sent out a tweet calling his leaked tax returns fake news. >> came in the mail over the transom and there's absolutely nothing improper about journalists if you haven't solicited something getting it over the transom. it's entirely possible that donald sent this to me. >> reporter: david cay johnston unveiled the first two pages of mr. trump's return on rachel maddow's msnbc show showing president trump paid $38 million in taxes on an income of more than $150 million.

that's a tax rate of 25.3%. the white house confirmed the numbers in a statement. but said the president paid no more tax than legally required. after leaving michigan, president trump heads to tennessee to help sell the republican plan to repeal and replace obamacare to the public. even after meeting with president trump tuesday, conservative lawmakers rallied against the republican plan outside the u.s. capitol wednesday. >> the leadership in the house is weak kneed so they are giving you something that's half as much as obamacare but doesn't fix the problem. >> reporter: vice president mike pence is making his case for house republicans to support the bill with a series of meetings on capitol hill today. craig boswell, cbs news, the white house. today the president is also expected to announce a new review of federal auto fuel economy and emissions rules. automakers have been waiting for the review for weeks. they argue cheap gas will make it hard for them to sell as many efficient vehicles as they need to in order to meet

regulations. the review opens the door to lower fuel economy requirements and less stringent controls on carbon dioxide emissions. new at noon the justice department announcing charges against four men for hacking millions of yahoo users. yahoo had already suspected that hackers sponsored -- were responsible for breaking into 500 million accounts and stealing personal data. today the justice department charged two agent of russian's federal security service along with another man from russia and one from kazakhstan. this is the first criminal case the u.s. has ever brought against russian officials. [indiscernible name] and [indiscernible name] both officers protected, directed, facilitated and paid criminal hackers to collect information through computer intrusions in the united states and elsewhere. >> an internal inquiry at yahoo found that some senior executives knew about the breach soon after it happened but did little to investigate.

yahoo's top lawyer resigned and ceo marissa mayer lost some compensation. she will be stepping down soon. this afternoon we are learning more about an east bay elementary school with a possible norovirus outbreak. as kpix 5's anne makovec reports, dozens of kids are sick at home. >> reporter: all classrooms of dublin elementary school are getting a thorough cleaning today after what appears to be a norovirus outbreak that dozens of kids got sick from. >> i came out of the house and then blah! >> that's terrible. >> reporter: typical stomach bug symptoms and it spread quickly. >> my wife has it at home. >> reporter: students in the fifth grade classroom started getting sick on friday, so the district sent home notices telling parents to keep their kids home after they have nausea or diarrhea. >> they have been communicating pretty much daily on the progress and what they are doing to clean things.

>> reporter: including doubling their custodial staff. 70 students called out on monday twice the number of normal, yesterday it was 47. so far only has been diagnosed with norovirus. >> it's up to families if they want to go and get the test that confirms the diagnosis. >> reporter: the freemans are sure they had it but are much better today. >> i'm really glad it's gone. >> reporter: the school district wants any kid that has a stomach bug to stay home for 48 hours after those symptoms disappear. of course, the school loses money from the state for every absence but is now looking to see if there's any waiver for an outbreak. in dublin, anne makovec, kpix 5. for more information on the norovirus from the cdc, go to our website, cbssf.com and click on "links and numbers." we're learning more about a deadly shooting in fremont. we now know a police officer shot and killed a woman. it all happened around 5 p.m. last night outside an apartment complex on carlos boulevard. police say that they tried to

pull over a car that was reportedly stolen. when the suspects tried to escape, officers started shooting. one woman died, one man was arrested, another man is on the run. a hearing in sacramento today three months after the ghost ship warehouse fire killed 36 people in oakland. a special oversight hearing is looking at how such tragedies can be prevented in other work buildings throughout california. the main goal is to create policies for better building inspection and code enforcement without overburdening tenants and property owners. >> this devastating event may have happened in great city of oakland but we know this tragedy could take place in any number of localities across the golden state. in fact, we believe there are thousands of buildings similar to the ghost ship up and down california. >> oakland's assistant city administrator is testifying today along with state fire officials and the father of the

victim. the fire in december was the deadliest in oakland history. new data on express lanes along i-580 shows drivers commute habits. they have been in operation for over a year. drivers have made 7 million trips and just this past january there were more than 27,000. traffic moved in those lanes between 5 and 23 miles an hour faster. here's a breakdown of where the trips originated: gin at the start of the express lane... and 45 percent from the tri- valley. solo drivers pay the tolls with a flex tag. and the amount ranges from two to nine dollars... depending on the level of congestion on the freeway. we've learned the bay are is home to the most visited national park in the country.. stole low drivers paid with flex tags and it depends on the amount of congestion on the freeway. the bay area is the home of the most visited national park. the golden gate national

disturbance bringing us that cloud cover. temperatures are now 50s and 60s. and that's okay. we are typically in the 60s this time of the year. but numbers coming down today 5 to 10 degrees in comparison to yesterday. so light showers possible throughout the day and evening. mild temperatures thursday. more rain slated for sunday evening into monday and tuesday. now, here's the weak disturbance. and it has been providing rain showers all morning around the northwestern section of the state of california swinging towards the bay area. our computer models say it wants to fall apart. some light rain showers in the north bay but that's it. cloudy thursday morning. thursday afternoon filtered sunshine. and then sunshine through st. patrick's day. statewide, 83 fresno. rain to the north. clouds over the greater lake tahoe area at 55 mild degrees. no need for chains this weekend. our temperatures in the 60s and
