highlighting the 20% pay gap that exists between men and women. kpix 5's jackie ward looks at their message. >> i think the idea is if women are making 20% less they should pay 20% less at the register. it's 2017 and we're still fighting for equal pay for women. >> reporter: sarah is the co- owner of a bakery in the mission that specializes in pastries and croissants. she says 60% of her employees are women. >> it's important for women to be able to support their families on their own and they should earn equal pay. >> reporter: women in the united states are paid 20% less than men. the disparity is greater for black and hispanic women. this is why local businesses in san francisco like craftsman and wool, honeycomb salon and wine down are offering a 20% discount off their services or are donating 20% of today's proceeds to organizations that serve women and families. bigger companies like

"salesforce," pg&e and lyft are doing the same. >> at the end of the day, money speaks so we're going to be behind in progressing in so many other ways if we don't close the wage gap. >> reporter: all women could afford 78 more weeks of food with the wage gap closed, black women 155 more weeks, hispanic women 193 weeks more of food. in california women make 14% less than men so slightly better than the national average. but at this rate of progress, there won't be pay equality until 2061. in san francisco, jackie ward, kpix 5. there's some breaking news now. a woman shot and killed in a car in richmond and there were two children in the car. it happened about 9 a.m. at rheem avenue and 29th street. chopper 5 was over the scene just a short time ago as police

were investigating. the woman was in her 30s, it was a targeted shooting, no description or suspects. with an east bay community growing, there are increasing calls to build a new high school to accommodate new families. kpix 5's anne makovec reports from dublin. >> reporter: dublin's only high school is bursting at the seams. the elementary and middle schools are packed beyond capacity. and as those students become freshmen, the math doesn't add up. >> basically, the infrastructure is not keeping up with the population here in dublin, one of california's fastest growing cities. the number of students has doubled in 10 years. >> reporter: the school board agreed more than a year ago build a second high school but there's still no solid strategy. two new online petitions are turning the heat. one accuses the board of dragging its feet. the other says the new high

school needs room for at least 2500 students. there are more than 1300 signatures between the two. >> all these processes take time. so we are close. >> reporter: a school district spokesman says the search has been narrowed to four sites. in the meantime, they will add portable classrooms to dublin high. >> real estate is expensive in dublin. costs are big. and our board is working to make sure we get the best deal we can so we can build the best facility we can. >> reporter: the district still needs to figure out financing. voters passed measure h last year, a $283 million bond. $60million from that was issued in november but the next installment of $90 million isn't scheduled until 2019. the district's goal is to have a school open by 2021. in dublin, anne makevoc, kpix 5. >> to receive measure h funds faster the board could apply for a bonding capacity waiver. the board will hold a hearing

on april 25 for public comment. bart's move into silicon valley is facing a new hurdle. the railcars aren't ready. the "san francisco chronicle" reports that while track construction to san jose is ahead of schedule, delivery of the new railcars is way behind. the agency ordered 35 railcars from a canadian manufacturer. of those, 10 have been delivered but problems with electrical systems and software were discovered during the testing. that's delaying delivery of the rest. police in san francisco are keeping a closer watch on a popular muni line following complaints from female passengers. the sfpd says officers are now riding the n-judah line between downtown stations and sunset. this comes after a female passengers reported last week saying she was groped by a passenger. several other similar complaints have surfaced on social media. today the white house is denying a report that the brother of a trump administration cabinet member helped foster communication with russia. cbs reporter craig boswell has

details from the white house. >> reporter: erik prince a trump campaign donor and education secretary betsy devos's brother allegedly met with a close associate of russian president vladimir putin nine days before president trump took office. that's according to the "washington post" which reports that prince's aim was to establish a back channel of communication between presidents trump and putin. the united arab emirates reportedly arranged the meeting which took place in the seychelles. the fbi and two congressional committees are investigating whether trump can page aides coordinated with -- campaign aides coordinated with russia to interfere with the presidential election. >> if there were contacts between the trump campaign and russian intelligence services that were inappropriate i want to find out about it and i want the whole world to know about it. >> reporter: the white house says it isn't aware of any meetings and says the focus needs to be finding out who is leaking classified information. >> there is a troubling direction. >> reporter: susan rice president obama's national security adviser asked for names of the trump team to be

revealed after seeing them referenced in intelligence briefs. u.s. civilian identities are normally concealed. >> in order to understand the importance of the report, and assess its significance, it was necessary to find out or request the information as to who that u.s. official was. >> reporter: rice told msnbc that she followed the process to unmask the names and that she never leaked any information to the press. craig boswell, cbs news, the white house. erik prince is no stranger to headlines. he founded blackwater security involved in the massacre of iraqis in baghdad in 2007. four blackwater security personnel were convicted in those shootings. bids are due today on the first contract to design president trump's proposed border wall with mexico. more than 600 companies have put in bids to build the 2,000- mile wall. 4 to 10 bidders will be chosen to build prototypes. they will be constructed on a strip of federally owned land in san diego. as early as today,

president trump's administration could unveil details of a revised plan to repeal and replace obamacare. that's according to a member of the house freedom caucus who met with vice president mike pence in washington last night. pence's new offer would allow states to opt out of some of the obamacare insurance mandates like essential health benefits. it would also preserve some of the more popular features of the affordable care act. president trump has called president putin to offer condolences after a deadly attack on a st. petersburg subway train. elizabeth palmer reports. >> reporter: he is akbazhan dzhalilov. he is from kyrgyzstan south of russia near the afghan border. and that's where akbazhan dzhalilov was born in 1995. the bomb powerful enough to blow out the doors of the train actually went off between stations that the driver

[ screaming ] >> reporter: the bomb had been filled with shrapnel to cause maximum damage. st. petersburg's subway system was shut down immediately as the injured were brought to ambulances at street level. at a nearby station, police found and defused a second bomb they think was hidden by the same bomber. russian media reported it was disguised as a fire extinguisher. president putin who comes from st. petersburg last night laid flowers at the scene. attack. so far he only said investigators are following all leads. this is not the first time russian subways have been attacked. most recently in moscow, two women suicide bombers killed at least 40 people in 2010. but that was linked to the war
