griego. >> i'm kenny choi. the deadly crash happened at the height of the morning commute along interstate 580 west of tracy just after 7 a.m. traffic was delayed for a few hours but the road is now open. kpix 5's allen martin has the latest from investigators. >> reporter: the story of course still very much developing. law enforcement is going to hold a press conference shortly. we'll show you a live look outside the dublin chp facility where officers will update us with the very latest and when that happens, we will go right to it. but first, let's walk you through this morning's events. we have video from chopper 5. the alameda county deputy who was killed was riding in that vw beetle. you can see the extensive damage to the back end of it. it's pretty much destroyed. investigators say this bus contracted by tesla slammed into the car near grant line road. no one on the bus was hurt but the deputy riding in that car was pronounced dead at the scene. minutes after the crash, chopper 5 caught this.

the first responders had draped an american flag over the deputy's body then then stand back and salute. just about an hour ago, chopper 5 was overhead as a procession was seen heading westbound on 580. law enforcement officials bringing the deputy's body to the coroner's office in oakland. you can also see there were other local law enforcement on the overpass paying tribute as the procession made its way down the freeway. finally, at the coroner's office, officers could be seen hugging embracing each other, grieving the loss of one of their colleagues. tesla sent out this statement about the crash which reads in part: again.. we are awaiting a new conference by law enforcement and we will bring it to you as soon as it happens. in the news room allen martin kpix 5 a serial arsonis >> again we're waiting for a law enforcement news conference. we'll have it as soon as it happens. in the newsroom, allen martin,

kpix 5. a serial arsonist could be targeting cars in contra costa county contra costa. 10 recently. flores reports. >> reporter: all these car fires are connected according to officials. they are being burned overnight in front of homes like this one here in walnut creek. you can see the tires, it's completely melted. and it's burned through the entire car. >> it's like i could barely see the window across the street there was so much smoke. >> reporter: david is one of the latest victims in a case of suspicious car fires across contra costa county. his acura parked in front of his home went up in flames around 2 a.m. neighbors called 911. >> if it had been left to me, it probably would have ended up in my house because i was asleep. >> reporter: just as crews battled back the flames in walnut creek, a few miles away in lafayette, firefighters responded to another car fire making the total 7 suspicious car fires this week alone.

one in martinez, two in walnut creek, two in lafayette, and two yesterday they brentwood. firefighters say no one has been hurt. >> the one yesterday did start to spread to one of the houses right under the bedroom of a child so this is extremely dangerous, we're taking this very, very seriously and we want to, um, catch the person or people involved. >> reporter: police haven't identified a suspect. county firefighters say the fires have been happening for months. at least 10 since january. apparently, random acts of arson. threatening families fast asleep in their homes. >> that's what clicked immediately. >> this has to be the guy that i just heard about. now it's happening to me. >> reporter: contra costa county fire protection district says outside agencies are now involved in the case and investigators are asking the public to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. reporting in walnut creek, i'm jessica flores, kpix 5. police have been canvassing the affected neighborhood collecting surveillance video. there's a push to fire the

contra costa county district attorney. he reportedly spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on himself. district attorney mark appearances admitting to making more than $66,000 of his campaign money and spending it on himself. district attorney mark peterson. he used it for travel, hotels, restaurants and movies over five years and he failed to report the spending on campaign finance disclosure forms. in december, peterson issued this statement saying that he regrets and acknowledges the mistakes he made regarding his campaign financing account. he also agreed to pay a $45,000 fine. in wine country, the search is on for a gunman following another freeway shooting. the latest happened yesterday along highway 101 in healdsburg. investigators say it all started when two men got into a fight with some other men outside a food truck. they got into the same car and drove off. a few minutes later the suspects drove up in a truck and shot inside the victims'

honda. the passenger and driver were rushed to the hospital in serious condition. it's unclear if they knew the suspects who shot them. for now there's no suspect description. president trump blasting the media on twitter today after reports claim that he contradicted his own administration on what led to the firing of former fbi director james comey. cbs reporter seth lemon has details from the white house. >> reporter: the white house is refusing to comment on a controversial tweet from president trump this morning. >> the president has nothing further to add. >> reporter: the president hinted he was recording a january conversation with now fired facebook director james comey. he tweeted, james comey better hope that there are no tapes of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press. mr. trump is referring to reports that the former fbi director told associates that the president pushed him to pledge his loyalty to the president that night. comey refused but promised to be honest. >> he mentioned that he had

been invited to the white house to have dinner with the president and that he was uneasy with that. >> reporter: james clapper, the former director of national intelligence, says he doubts comey told the president he was not the subject of an fbi investigation into collusion with russia as the president says. white house officials say the president would never expect personal loyalty only loyalty to the country. but the president and his staff have not been on the same page this week. >> i was going to fire regardless of recommendations. >> reporter: mr. trump's statement directly contradicted his own staff including the vice president who all say the president was following the recommendation of deputy attorney general rod rosenstein. >> he is making fools of his own staff. the white house appears to be in chaos! >> reporter: the president tweeted in responses to the contradicting reports saying, perfect accuracy is not possible and maybeish just cancel all press briefings and issue written responses instead for the sake of accuracy. seth lemon for cbs news, the

[ noise ] >> it's not hyperspace or a scene from a sci-fi movie. it's a test run of his boring company project. he named the company boring after being stuck in l.a. traffic. he didn't provide details about the project but he says the electric sled can transport you and your car through a tunnel at speeds up to 125 miles an hour. the company plans to run its first tunnel from l.a.x. to culver city, santa monica, westwood and sherman oaks. the oakland raiders move to los angeles could be delayed if they don't take action soon. they have a week to agree on a lease to avoid delays on the team's relocation to vegas. the lease agreement is on the agenda at the next nfl owners meeting which is on may 22. but if the deal isn't approved, the raiders' move to "sin city" wouldn't happen until the 2021 season.

the team owner says he is working as fast as possible to make sure the lease gets signed. our wet winter has created an abundance of flowers just in time for mother's day this sunday. kpix 5 reporter jackie ward went to check out what's in bloom at the san francisco flower mart. >> reporter: after the soaking the bay area got this gray wet winter, florists are captivated by all the vibrant colors in bloom. >> all the local stuff, lilacs, peonies, hydrangea, everything got a nice big drink this year. so good for us. >> reporter: lisa owns not just flowers in the castro and has been coming to the soma warehouse for 20 years. she didn't mind the weather this winter. >> i liked it. you know that we need a drink, you know, after all the drought that we were going through. i say bring on the rain. now, it's good for flowers. >> reporter: a wholesaler thinks winter was out of hand

and too much water isn't good. he is a wholesaler who imports flowers worldwide. >> this year there was a shortage of roses. there's rain in colombia and ecuador and a lot more disease with the roses and other flowers. >> reporter: flower retailers tell us that unlike valentine's day where roses are the big selling item, they say that mothers just want any kind of flowers as long as it's their favorite or maybe her favorite color. mother's day is the unofficial kickoff to a florist's busy season, despite business ramping back up, retailers here are happy for the work. >> valentine's day is one day. and you have to hurry and make it that one day. mother's day can be a whole week so it's not as stressful. >> reporter: in san francisco, jackie ward, kpix 5. >> retailers tell us they found more flowers for mother's day -- sell more flowers for mother's day for any holiday of the year including valentine's day. you know why? because mothers are very important. >> yes. >> they need those flowers. >> but don't you think that just love from your children,

so we had a viewer question, she has two cats if i remember correctly one of whom has scabs on the neck area and on the back. and she is not seeing any eeotr is fine. so i think this is a great opportunity to give you the excellent advice that it's probably fleas even though she is not seeing them and this particular cat is more sensitive to flea bites and develops an allergy. the way we -- so using a topical or oral product is not always meaning they are not getting bit by fleas. they are still going to get bit. but the fleas will die or go somewhere else. they live in the environment. so treating the environment is the way to go. that's my recommendation for that question. but what i thought it would be interesting for owners to know is when we have an itchy dog coming through we're looking for where is the itchiness, the paws? >> in the head? >> it can be anywhere. so that's why we're looking to see where are the itching. that lets us know what kind of problem they have. so in dogs, for example, if they are itching around this
