the greatest show on earth. and cher turns back time at the billboard music awards. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anna marie green. president trump arrives in israel this morning, the second stop in his first trip overseas since taking office. his first stop was saudi arabia where he changed his tone concerning islam while urging muslim leaders to lead the fight against radicalism and making no mention of human rights or democracy. teri okita is in london. good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. in his third day of foreign travel, president trump now turns his attention to the

palestinian contract and whether it brokers a peace deal. he sounded a call for ending extremism. >> this is a battle between good and evil. >> president trump used his much anticipated speech on islam sunday, pressing leaders to join global coalition against terrorism. >> a better future is only possible if your nations drive out the terrorists and drive out the extremists. drive them out. >> speaking in the saudi arabian capital, the president also stayed clear of using the words "radical islamic terrorism" during his address, opting instead for a message of unity. >> america is prepared to stand with you in pursuit of shared interests and common security. >> back in washington some members of mr. trump's own party criticized him for staying silent on human rights abuses in the middle east. >> we have to stand up for what we believe in or we are no different.

elizabeth palmer reports from tehran. >> reporter: there's been such a mood of joy and optimism ever since president rouhani's victory on saturday. but that mood was shattered when trump called for iran's isolation. president rouhani won the election because he promised his base ta he would pursue an agenda of engagement with the world. moderate iranians who suffered under sanctions for more than a decade hoped that western businesses would begin to invest here and that they would be able to travel abroad without being treated as international pariahs. president trump's speech sends a strong signal that america will do whatever it can to block that. there is a faction inside iran's complex power structure that may be celebrating the hardliners, including iran's powerful revolutionary guards and their followers.

closer ties with the west would have threatened their influence and control. an isolated iran is exactly what they want. reformed moderate iranians looking for a shred of hope to cling to will have noticed a press conference given in saudi arabia by secretary of state rex tillerson in which he said that although he had no plan to call iran's foreign minister, he did think they would talk at what he called the right time. elizabeth palmer, cbs news, tehran. well, the president was supposed to speak at a forum on the use of social media. instead he sent his daughter ivanka, a senior white house adviser. the main goal of the forum is to combat terror and online extremism through the use of social media. >> ultimately this young generation across the muslim and arab world is a generation that can build a future of tolerance, of hope, and of peace.

>> first lady melania trump visited the american international school in riyadh and a g.e. plant where all the workers are women. back in this country now, dozens of graduates and family members walked out as vice president mike pence began his commencement address at the university of notre dame. pence, the former governor of indiana, was chosen to speak after there was so much protest over the prospect of inviting president trump. some people said they walked out as a show of solidarity with those impacted by trump administration policies. and this morning north korea says it's ready to deploy a new mid-range missile it tested yesterday that's capable of reaching japan. last week the north tested a long-range missile potentially capable of reaching alaska or hawaii. north korea has defied all calls to rein in its nuclear program and has been working on a

no more, staging its last performance on new york's long island. hena daniels is here in new york with more on the story. >> good morning, anne-marie. for the circus family and fans, it was an emotional evening. ringling brothers couldn't compete with the public's changing attitudes. ringling brothers was an extravaganza of clowns, death-defying acrobats, and big cats, but over the years animal rights activists targeted the circus, saying forcing animals to be transported and perform around the country was inhumane. last year they removed elephants from the show after a steep decline in attendance. before the performance, ringmaster jonathan lee iverson looked back.

points down lower. the s&p finished 9 points lower. the nasdaq was down 39 points for the week. while president trump was in saudi arabia, boeing announced it reached agreements to sell both military and commercial aircraft to the saudis. boeing said the saudis have agreed to buy helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft. it will negotiate with saudi gulf airlines to buy up to 16 wide-bodied aircraft. the body of the detail not disclosed. a british newspaper says the rules it uses are those of facebook's melgt method to control content. it values rules on violence, terrorism, animal abuse, and nudity. for instance facebook allows videos of abortions as long as there's no nudity because facebook doesn't want to censor or punish people in distress. and "alien covenant" came

our top story this morning, president trump travels to israel after a two-day visit to saudi arabia. speaking to the leaders of muslim majority countries yesterday, the president urged them to extinguish islam extremism. >> drive them out of your places of worship, drive them out of your communities, drive them out of your holy land, and drive them out of this earth. >> the president did not admonish the rulers for human rights violations and blamed iran for instability in the region. the american cancer society estimates more than 95,000 americans will be diagnosed with colon cancer this year, but as dr. jon lapook reports, colon cancer is treatable and many survivors are staying cancer-free.

>> reporter: five years ago dave strong and his wife mary decided to get in shape. they changed their diet and hit the gym five days a week. after turning 50 last year, strong had his first colonoscopy. >> the first thing i saw was my wife over me with tears in her eyes, so i knew immediately something was bad. >> reporter: the bad news was colon cancer that had already spread to his live. he's had three surgeries and he's about to start his last five treatments of chemo. >> i pushed myself when i could, slowed down when i had to but tried to keep the normalcy going. >> reporter: he continued to eat well and work out. lifestyle changes can help out. researches scored them based on body weight, physical activity, and dietary choices. those with the highest scores had a 42% lower chance of dying
