breaking news in oakland. part of a building under construction collapsed, multiple people were hurt. >> chopper 5 is live overhead and it's an active scene as the investigation continues. >> it happened in the 3000 block of broadway at hawthorne

in oakland. and that's right across from sutter alta bates medical center. kpix 5's anne makovec is live at the scene with the very latest. anne. >> reporter: 13 construction workers were injured here this morning. none of those injuries are serious, all minor injuries. i'm going to give you a street view here of what we're seeing. i think the better pictures, though, are coming interest chopper 5. this investigation is just beginning. but what we know, a very scare scene of people stuck in wet concrete. others hanging from scaffolding this morning. construction workers had been pouring concrete on to the floor of this building unconstruction into a garage area when the deck the platform they were standing on collapsed under them. >> next thing i know everything collapsed. coworkers just fell in. you know? it was too much -- too much weight.

it was just too much weight. everything broke. >> reporter: that was one of the construction workers at the site this morning. the 15 to 20 workers who fell in, some were stuck in the wet concrete that they had just been pouring and it was knee deep concrete. others were hanging from the scaffolding or rebar trying to stay out of the wet concrete. the collapse shook some neighboring buildings. and the fire department got the call at around 9:30 this morning. >> construction crews that were on site [ indiscernible ] their own members, with shoveling digging them out of the wet concrete. our members showed up, took charge of the operation and our rescue assisted with removing the trapped victims that were still stuck in the concrete. >> reporter: back out here live now over the scene from chopper 5, again, the investigation into how this happened will now begin. osha is here, cal/osha, as well as the city's building engineer. they are first going to have to

investigate this accident find out who is at fault and then decide how to resume building this building. we are told that it is a mixed use buildings for homes and businesses. it was supposed to be finished early next year. that might be put on hold at this point. now, firefighters have been giving a live update. the only new news in the last few minutes was that they have upped the number of people who fell. it was between 15 and 20 people. but still, 13 people that sustained injuries. all minor injuries. a lot of scrapes and bruises, according to the fire department. live in oakland, anne makevoc, kpix 5. a live look now at sfo where for many people it's a getaway friday. flight delays are expected this long memorial day weekend. kpix 5's jackie ward has a look at the airport construction and other factors that could add time to your holiday travel. >> reporter: if you have a three-day weekend and plan on getting out of town, one of the

places where you might get slowed down is here at sfo. that's because the airport is in the final phase of paving the 28-left runway one of the primary runways used for landings. >> today is busy. we won't do a closure until 10 p.m. tonight. monday is also busy for people coming back to the bay area. so we're going to re-open the runway 8 a.m. on monday morning. >> reporter: work on the runway began in late march with most of it happening during the nights and weekends to minimize the impact on travelers but a few may still be inconvenienced. >> airlines have canceled 35 flights tomorrow and then 15 flights on sunday. that number could change. >> reporter: if your weekend plans include the sights of the city skyline from the golden gate bridge welcome center or vista point, you may want to bike or take public transportation there. both areas will be closed to personal vehicles between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. today through monday as a way to ease traffic congestion. lastly, bart has issued a rider

alert: no trains between fruitvale and lake merritt this weekend starting tomorrow. and the lake merritt station will be closed completely. there will be a free bus bridge for passengers to use but expect 20 to 40-minute delays. especially heading to the oakland airport. back here at sfo, after this weekend there will be one more weekend where they will close that runway. but the work should be complete by june 5. that's good timing because airlines start adding summer flights on june 8. jackie ward, kpix 5. four people are under arrest and one victim is being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg after a botched car burglary early this morning. s.w.a.t. teams were on the scene in gilroy after the victim tried to stop two people from allegedly breaking into a car. the suspects ran off according to authorities but cops were able to catch up to one of them. they then surrounded a house ot involved in that crime were hiding out. police arrested three more people. the man suspected of setting cars on fire in the east bay is expected in court

today. james bishop iii was arrested last week in connection to a car fire in benicia. he is charged with multiple counts of arson. police say that there was a spike in east bay car fires last month and that number dropped after bishop's arrest. at least two dozen people are dead after masked gunmen attacked a bus in central egypt this morning. the coptic catholic group on board was headed on a monastery. security forces are hunting for the gunman. there are checkpoints and patrols on the road leading to the monastery. so far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. british police say they are making immense progress in the manchester bombing investigation. raids were carried out last night. they have a hold on a large part of a terror network. and more arrests are expected. cbs news' teri okita is in manchester with the latest. >> reporter: counter intelligence officers raided and collected evidence from

this barbershop in south manchester early friday morning. police believe the 22-year-old suicide bomber salman abedi spent time there. >> quite scary. >> reporter: one person was taken into custody but police aren't saying how the arrest is connected to the killing of 22 people and dozens more being injured. police believe abedi stayed in this apartment leading up to the attack. neighbors are shocked. >> i'm just amazed how one night everything was fine and the next thing -- [ indiscernible ] >> speechless. i don't know what to say. >> reporter: but the people of manchester are not letting the terror attack deter them. a big sporting event here in the citycenter this week is going forward as planned. >> i'm going to make a point of showing that i'm not going to be afraid of stuff like this. >> reporter: secretary of state rex tillerson, who is in england for meetings with his british counterpart, condemned the attacks. >> please know that all of america's prayers are with those who have lost loved ones

and those that are injured for speedy recovery. >> reporter: tillerson also signed a book expressing condolences on behalf of the american people. teri okita, cbs news manchester england. >> and we have just learned that singer ariana grande will return to manchester for a benefit concert to raise money for the victims of the attack. no word yet on when that will happen. today president trump is attending the g7 summit in cicely joining the leaders of six other democracies. cbs' weijia jang reports, the talks will focus on terrorism, climate change and free trade. >> reporter: this morning after arriving in cicely for the g7 summit, president trump tweeted, getting ready to engage g7 leaders on many issues including economic growth, terrorism and security. the president and six other heads of state are holding several meetings today and tomorrow. they are also expected to tackle climate change, which the president says is a hoax.

police are looking for a man who unplugged a bounce house while kids were inside. it happened during a one-year- old's birthday party in florida. you know the house lose air, trapping a dozen children inside. surveillance video shows an older man walking up to the outdoor electrical socket, pulling the plug and then walking off. the homeowner doesn't know the man or if he knew he was putting kids in danger. >> we were very worried about the kids because it was extremely hot and they were, like, trapped inside the bounce

memorial day weekend is here. it's the unofficial start to summer and today our pet expert jill chase has tips on keeping your animal safe and comfortable as the weather heats up. we have a very special guest. this is roxy. this is roberta's dog! >> yes. so roberta has been asking for a very long time if we could please bring roxy on. sow now roxy is making her appearance. she is a little nervous but getting better. >> she is adorable, too. >> she is about 3 to 4 years old? okay. so. we're going to talk about summer coming. >> what do we need to know? >> there's a couple of

things. foxtails are my nemesis because i don't like them when they get into dogs in their nose, ears, toes, fur and sometimes bury their way into the abdomen and chest cavity. and they don't move in -- they only move in one direction. they don't back up. so once they get in they are going in one direction. so couple of things we could do to help prevent that is of course stay way from foxtails. i have owners tell me that's impossible but if you go to the beach on on grass or concrete that's how to stay away from t check between their toes. don't just feel but look. sometimes you will feel them and not see them and vice versa. if you clip their feet if they have really furry feet so it's easier to see what's going on there. you don't want to ever shave your dog down completely though because they can get sunburned. you want to clip them shorter and people don't realize that even with the thick coated dogs they get insulation from the air under their fur coat that helps keep them cool. that's the truth. and making sure of course that there's a lot of water for your pet to drink and shady places cool places to stay.
