by crashes, but a new winner takes the wheel and makes history. good morning from the studio 57 news rook at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president trump marks his anniversary as commander in chief today. last night the president fired off a series of tweets touching on health care, tax reform, and some fresh criticism of the news media. meanwhile his son-in-law jared kushner faces new questions about his ties with russia. roxana saberi is here with the latest in new york. good morning, roxana. >> good morning, anne-marie. president trump defended his son-in-law in his statement last night saying he has total confidence in him tweeting again about the so-called fake news. president trump took to twitter

throughout the day sunday declaring his overseas trip a great success before moving on to the media saying in part, the fake news media works hard at disparaging my use of social media because they don't want america to use the real story. the tweet storm came amid revelations that his son-in-law and adviser jared kushner is under fbi scrutiny for allegedly trying to carry on back-channel communications with russia. >> it doesn't bother me. >> homeland secretary of state john kelly is among those defending kushner. >> any time you have communications with russia, i wouldn't criticize it. >> others are criticizing the move, pointing out that it followed russian interference in the election. >> my dashboard warning light was clearly on, and i think that was the case with all of us in the intelligence community. >> representative adam schiff, the top democrat on the house

destiny into our own hands. another missile launch by north korea today, pyongyang's night this year. south korea said the projectile was launched from a coastal town and flew about 280 miles. it landed in japan's maritime economic zone. the north says it wants to build a nuclear-tipped missile that can reach the u.s. mainland, but it's still thought to be years away from being able to do that. iraq forces backed by the u.s. military are making the final push at what they hope is a final push to draw isis out of mosul. thousands of civilians remain trapped inside the city making it complicated. narrow roads are making it difficult for armored vehicles and heavy equipment gain access. british police say they've arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the deadly manchester suicide bombing. two others were arrested sunday. police say a total of 14 men are in custody. but the british say other

members of the attacker's network are still at large. it was lowered because of progress in the investigation. the bombing last week left 22 people dead. and authorities in mississippi say a weekend shooting spree that left eight people dead including a police officer began with a call regarding a domestic dispute. the 35-year-old suspect now faces one count of capital murder and seven counts of first-degree murder. tony dokoupil reports. >> i just wanted to live. i just wanted to love my family. i just wanted to love my wife. >> reporter: willie corey godbolt's alleged attack ended here outside a truck stop near both cheetah, mississippi. he calmly described a shooting spree that left eight dead according to police suicide by cop was my intention.

>> police were called to remove godbolt from a private conversation when a confrontation erupted. >> i was having a conversation with my step-daddy and my mama and her, my wife, about taking her. >> reporter: godbolt killed a sheriff's deputy and three women at the first home. the deputy was identified as 36-year-old william durr. >> that's what they do. they intervene. it cost him his life. i'm sorry. >> reporter: four more people including two juveniles were shot and killed at two homes nearby before godbolt was arrested at 7:00 a.m. on sunday. he spoke to a "clarion-ledger" reporter on the scene. >> so what's next for you? >> death. death. death. >> mississippi plans to charge godbolt with one count of

states where health officials say we could see outbreaks of the mosquito-borne virus zika. the gulf states, tucson, arizona, and areas of southern california are also on the list. >> it's been one of the warmest winters on record. and so what that means is that the numbers of mosquitos that transmit zika are out in high numbers. >> reporter: the biggest concern is for pregnant women. experts are urging them to take precautions like using insect repellant and limited time outdoors to avoid mosquito bites. a recent study shows local transmission of zika began in florida months before it was picked up. dr. peter hotaz says health departments will need to pick it up sooner. >> looking for fever and rash for people who go to health centers, emergency rooms, and clinics and actively testing them for zika. >> reporter: the city of dallas is already looking at stepping

london's heathrow airport say his are still disruptions early today. the airline is recovering from a major meltdown that forced it to ground its fleet in london. a power problem on the grid is to blame. demarco morgan has more. >> reporter: british flies slowly returned. the airlines' global flights grounding cost hundreds. it was inside both heathrow, europe's busiest airport, the busiest airport and gatwick.

>> we've been in line for about five hours and we have no idea how long we'll be in line. the rest of the day for sure and we probably won't fly out today either. >> reporter: the computer glitch quickly disrupted the airlines' contact centers and baggage tracing. many had to leave their bags behind and sleep in the airport not long after incoming and outgoing flights happened. those things happen, but it has to stop. no one would come and talk to us and explain us to. we had to find people in uniform. they had barely any idea what to tell you. thaw were very embarrassed about it. >> reporter: the airline ceo posted an apology on twitter. >> i know this has been a horrible time. i want to apologize for the fact that you've had to go through these very trying experiences. >> reporter: the airlines' ceo say this is no evidence of a cyber attack. passengers can now rebook their flight or receive a full refund. as for flights here in the u.s. here at jfk, things are running smoothly.
