now at noon, president trump just moments away from a major announcement about the paris climate deal and so far, all signs pointing to a u.s. withdrawal from the landmark agreement. good afternoon, i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. president trump is expected to reveal his decision at any moment now! this is a live look at the white house rose garden where he is expected to speak. of course a lot of people are lined up there waiting for him to get to the lecturn. we have been hearing a lot about this possible withdrawal.

we do know that this is one of mr. trump's principal campaign pledges. america's allies have spoken out. they have expressed alarm about the likely consequences of the u.s. leaving the agreement. >> for context, as we await the announcement, back in 2015, it was an international agreement among many countries, um, including the united states. it was aimed to reduce carbon emissions to slow rising global temperatures. also helping countries deal with the effect of climate change. under the obama administration, they committed to reduce emissions by 26 to 28% by the year 2025. right now, the only other countries that are not part of the accord are nicaragua and syria. >> we just as late as yesterday -- mr. trump did tweet that he will of course be announcing his decision today. but also, that he was still listening to a lot of people both ways. so we'll see what happens. we are hearing that he will

announce that the u.s. will withdraw from the agreement. cbs news' weijia jang says that an american withdrawal would deepen the rift with american allies. >> we're going to cancel the agreement. >> reporter: president trump is expected to live up to that campaign promise. sources tell cbs news the president told senior advisers that he will pull the u.s. out of the paris climate accord. >> you're going to find out very soon. >> reporter: in 2015 former president obama along with 195 countries formed the agreement which pledges to reduce carbon emissions that contribute to global warming. >> this is one of those things where we're all in it together. >> reporter: mr. trump discussed the agreement with european allies while attending the g7 summit in italy last week. >> i continue to lobby the u.s. at all levels to continue to take climate change extremely seriously and to show that the leadership that america has shown in the past. >> reporter: president trump will announce his decision this

afternoon in the rose garden here at the white house. 25 major corporations are urging him to stick with the agreement. they took out a full-page ad in today's "new york times" arguing the agreement generates jobs and economic growth warning that withdrawing could expose the u.s. to retaliatory measures. in the past, the president has called global warming a hoax. he signed an executive order last march that lifts a 14- month-old moratorium on new coal leases on federal land. weijia jang, cbs news, the white house. and president trump is about to speak from the rose garden as we take a live look at this picture. that's steve bannon next to him -- right in that picture that we're seeing right now. nasa gives the average global temperature saying it increased by .8 celsius, which is around 1.4 fahrenheit since 1880! two-thirds of that warming has

been since 1975. we of course are waiting president trump to make the expected announcement that the u.s. will withdraw from the paris climate accord which was signed back in 2015. >> some people are worried about the consequences this may bring. it would isolate the u.s. from the international allies who spent years back in 2015 to fight pollution by reducing carbon emissions. >> reaction to the president's decision is starting to pour in especially here in california. kpix 5's anne makovec is here with that part of the story. >> california has long been a leader among u.s. states in carbon policies and governor jerry brown is vowing to keep it that way. whatever decision comes from washington, dc today brown is headed to meet with the conference of global energy ministers this weekend and he

says california will work with world governments to combat climate change. >> we are not stopping here. i'm going to china tomorrow. we're having a meeting of our 175 partners and those partners include states and provinces and countries all over the world. and this group is completely committed to meeting the paris agreement. >> reporter: he says if president trump does indeed decide to pull out of the paris agreement, that will galvanize activists and push california to double down on its own climate strategies. now, house minority leader nancy pelosi tweeted that: mayor lee said: we just heard about some of the businesses that are publicly supporting the paris climate agreement including these bay area businesses you see there

on your screen. apple, google, "salesforce" and adobe. so if indeed president trump does decide to pull out of the paris accord, the plan would then be to form a team to dismantle current policies brought about by barack obama to reduce climate change and that could take up to three years. >> anne, thank you very much for that report. and taking another live look at the white house rose garden, we'll bring you president trump's paris climate agreement announcement live when it happens. in the bay area, vallejo police shot and injured a man who they say had rammed an officer's car. as kpix 5's jessica flores reports, the suspect's family is now calling that shooting excessive. >> reporter: this is how the police shooting ended. the dodge challenger in a ditch with bullet holes on both sides of the car. vallejo police say they caught up with the suspect 20-year-old kevin decarlo in martinez. police say after the suspect rammed the dodge into a police

car, officers fired gunshots into the dodge striking the suspect multiple times. his father showed up to the scene at the area and says is in critical condition. >> they tried to kill the kid. he had no gun on him. i mean, why would they did down the road and shoot him like that? there's 40, 50, 60 rounds i heard that went off. >> reporter: police have been looking for the suspect for a week. on may 25 he was driving recklessly wouldn't stop for police then two days later police caught up with him and the suspect rammed a patrol car and fled on foot. then he was cornered in martinez and that's when police say he once again drove his vehicle into a police car. >> he didn't have no weapon on him. him like that? >> reporter: vallejo police say he is a deadly threat prompting

them to shoot. one officer had minor injuries. the contra costa county sheriff's department and d.a. are investigating this police shooting. in martinez, i'm jessica flores, kpix 5. a plan to bring dozens of retailers to bart stations throughout the bay area has fallen apart, the transit agency and company behind the plan are suing each other for alleged breach of contract saying that the loss of the deal cost transmart as much as $95 million. they shrunk the amount of space for retail and didn't respond to the details quickly enough. bart says transmart failed to meet the deadline. >> it's a big day for basketball fans. jackie ward talked to some excited fans ahead of game one of the nba finals between the warriors and cavs at oracle arena. >> reporter: game one of the nba finals is finally here. one thing that the warriors organization is handing out to its fans are these l.e.d. bracelets that only light up

[ gunshots ] >> a wild shootout inside a texas car dealership and now a fugitive and two bounty hunters who were chasing him are dead. cbs reporter hena daniels shows us how it all played out. >> reporter: this cell phone video captured the scuffle moments before a fatal shootout involving two texas bounty hunters and a minnesota fugitive. police say at least 20 shots were fired inside this car dealership outside of dallas. [ woman whispering into phone ] >> i'm in a bathroom. please hurry. >> reporter: the suspect ramon hutchinson had been on the run since march when he didn't show up for court. he was wanted for assaulting a law enforcement officer, cocaine possession and a dui. minnesota bound hunters tracked

him to texas and called in corpus christi-based fidel garcia, jr., to track him. garcia along with bounty hunter gabrielle bernal tracked hutchinson and his girlfriend to the dealership. >> we were told they were federal agents. >> reporter: they confront hutchinson who responded by drawing his own gun and then dropping it. the men fought as the suspect grabbed the gun and began firing. hena daniels, cbs news. time to see how the financial markets are doing on wall street. right now, the dow is up 97 points. it's longer than a football field with a 385-foot wingspan. the world's largest airplane debuted this week. it's called the stratolunch. it was pulled out of a hangar in the mojave desert to begin fueling tests. it's 50 feet tall, has 28 wheels and features 6 engines used by the boeing 747. the plane designed to release rockets that will carry satellites right into space. by the end of the day there

will be a new champion in the scripps national spelling bee. the finals are under way right now. and unfortunately, one of two bay area spellers was eliminated this morning. but he said he drove to oakland where it's overcast. the winds are picking up 20 in san francisco, 21 sfo. it's breezy around the lip of the bay. inland winds up to 15. 14 in fairfield. 12 in antioch. a robust onshore push from the marine layer. it's trying to dial back to the coast. we'll see some partial clearing. no chance at half moon bay, daly city or colma. tomorrow more sunshine than today. warmer conditions, and on saturday it will be the warmest day of the weekend if you want to keep track of such things. high pressure that's the key component and is continuing to build into the bay area albeit weak. so here's your thursday into your friday. friday at this time, we will have ample sunshine more than today. so the temperatures will reflect that, as well. then friday night we begin to see that onshore push. we wake up with the very comfortable conditions on saturday morning before we clear out very rapidly on saturday afternoon. they are making for a terrific

for 17 years a bay area nonprofit has been working around the world to save endangered animals. allen martin introduces us to the cofounder who is this week's jefferson award winner. >> reporter: for "wild aid" it's about the slogan. >> when the buying stops the killing can to. combined with the celebrities. >> reporter: peter knights co- founded the san francisco nonprofit "wild aid" in 2000 with the goal of saving endangered animals. starting with shark fin, rhino horn and ivory. >> what i realized is the disconnects between the buyers and where it's coming from. how do we connect people. what i found is when people in asia knew what was going on, they were just as appalled as we would be. >> reporter: peter started in asia where a booming economy meant more people could afford exotic delicacies.
