57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. thanks for joining us. i'm hena daniels in for anne-marie green. isis claimed responsibility for saturday's deadly attack in the heart of london. british police detained a number of people in early morning raids, and on sunday arrested 12 others at an apartment where it's believed one of the attackers lived. at least seven people were killed when three men used a rented van to run over people on the london bridge. they then raced into nearby restaurants stabbing people before they were shot dead by police. their identities have not been released. 48 others were wounded. 21 remain in critical condition. meg oliver is at london bridge with the latest. meg, good morning. >> reporter: hena, good morning. it was a bloody attack that shocked london, but as you can see behind me, london bridge has reopened one lane of traffic, and there's a steady stream of

commuters making their way to work. they're walking by this makeshift memorial where people have been leaving cards and flowers for the victims, and then there are the chilling headlines like this, "massacre in the market." authorities in the uk continue their hunt for the accomplices rounding up two addresses in the region in connection with saturday's terror attacks. on sunday police swarmed an apartment building in a suburb, taking four men and several women into custody. a resident there said he recognized one of the three men killed by police after allegedly carrying out the attacks as his neighbor. >> he had a young wife from what i could see and two children, a toddler and a recently born baby. >> reporter: the suspected terrorists used a van to mow down pedestrians on london bridge before crashing the van and stabbing people in the borough market.

>> i could see pure evil eyes. >> reporter: in the end, a number of local people and tourists would be dead, including christine archie bard of canada. this would come two weeks after they killed people at the ariana grande concert about four hours away in manchester. the pop star went back to manchester and took the stage during an emotional event, raising money for the victims. back in the u.s. in his first public comment on the recent attack, president trump vowed sunday to protect americans from terrorists. >> we knew our resolve, stronger than ever before, to protect the united states and its allies from a vial enemy. >> reporter: the department of homeland security says there's no credible threat to the u.s. at this time. we're learning new details about the victims in this horrific attack.

canadian christine archibald who was hit on the bridge with his fiance, he held her in his arms as she died. she was only 30. >> has the terror alert been raised in london? >> reporter: no, it hasn't. it will remain severe, meaning another attack is highly likely. however, the prime minister is holding a meeting, a security meeting later today. that topic is likely to come up for discussion. >> meg, we see a lot of foot traffic behind you. are people nervous as they make their way around london today? >> reporter: hena, absolutely. everybody that i've talked to say they're looking over their shoulder, they're a little bit cautious, however, they're defiant, and they're not going to let this stop them from getting back to work and returning to their normal activities. >> meg oliver live in london. thank you so much, meg. a vigil will be held in

london this evening for those involved in the attack. charlie d'agata has more on the victim and efforts to stop the attack. >> oh, my god. oh, my god. >> reporter: the rampage that left scores of wounded in its wake may have happened in the heart of london, but the victims hail from around the globe. am nad yan and were amok theirst a canadian and a frenchman were among the first confirmed deaths. australian candice hedge was stabbed in the neck while eating dinner with her boyfriend. american, british, german, and spanish are among the wounded. survivor accounts paint a gruesome picture of eight minutes that unfolded. gerard vowls said he just left the pub when he heard screaming. >> that's when i saw the three terrorists. they ran up and stabbed a woman, they repeatedly stabbed her, all

three of them. >> all three of them. >> when they stabbed her, they skreechle screamed "allah." >> reporter: they did what they could, threw everything at them. >> i picked up a stool, a glass. >> reporter: the attackers were brought down in a hail of bullets. >> the cops came over. so these attackers were surrounded by the police, and they shut them down. >> reporter: britain's emergency medical teams responded quickly, but the sheer number of victims suffering such horrific injuries meant spreading patients out to five area hospitals. london mayor sadiq cakhan described the attack and condemned it.

president trump said he'll do whatever is necessary to protect the united states. earlier he criticized london's mayor while trying to reassure residents about an increased police presence that there is no reason to be alarmed. president trump tweeted we must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people. if we don't get smart, it will only get worse. the mayor's office responded that he has more important things to do than to reply to the president's ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes his remarks out of context. in washington this week congress reconvenes today and the president plans to spotlight infrastructure week. his efforts to achieve $1 trillion for roadways and water ways, but the highlight is likely to be the scheduled testimony. of former fbi james comey before

demonstration occurred downtown. it was metunteemonstrators. chris martinez has that report. >> reporter: police set off numerous smoke and percussion grenades as protesters held a rally in downtown portland, sunday. pro trump protesters called for free speech. >> very peaceful. we're just freedom-loving americans. >> reporter: critics say they want more transparency from the white house amid allegations of ties between the u.s. and russia. >> their presence with fbi agents and homeland >> the biggest message would be we know that this is wrong. >> reporter: authorities bolstered their presence with fbi agents and homeland security, anticipating large crowds and potential violence. police made several arrests and

confiscated a number of illegal weapons. >> reporter: police shut down this park after they say a number of protesters started throwing bottles at officers, but they say most of the day's rallies remained peaceful. >> reporter: the rallies took place following the attack on a train. jeremy joseph christian shouted anti-muslim hate speech at a teen wearing a hijab and then killed two bystanders who tried to stop him. portland police say they trained for weeks in anticipation of the protests. chris martinez, cbs news, portland. bill cosby's sexual assault trial gets under way in norristown, pennsylvania, later today. cosby does not plan to testify. dozens of women have alleged he sexually assaulted them, most dating back to the 1960s and too old to prosecute. accuser andrea constant said cosby sexually assaulted her 13 years ago at a philadelphia suburban home. cosby denies all wrongdoing. coming up on the "morning

reports that four arab nations have cut diplomatic ties with qatar today. bahrain, egypt, saudi arabia, and the united arab emirates also blocked all air and sea routes to the persian gulf state. they oppose qatar support of iran and militant islamic groups. "the san diego tribune" say the arrest of man suspected of nearly hitting runners with a car. that started a 30-mile chase when he struck another car. >> we don't have anything on him other than he simply wanted to rush is what he told us, so for that we're -- this is where we end, and, you know, thank god the driver of the other vehicle only complains of pain to his anymore and arms and back. >> no one else was hurt. the suspect faces an array of traffic issues. the "washington post" says peyton manning played golf with

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. paris now offers an extra attraction for those with the need for speed. a zip line hook nearly 380 feet up on the eiffel tower lets riders zoom to ground at almost 60 miles an hour. it's a promotion tied into the french open tennis tournament. on the "cbs moneywatch" facebook takes a stand against terrorism, and the movie "wonder woman" sets a record. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and much more.

good morning, jill. >> good morning, hena. the three major u.s. stock indices opened this beak at all-time highs despite a weaker than expected jobs report. the dow gained 390 point pser the week. the nasdaq added 56. the s&p finished 192 points higher. facebook says it wants to become a hostile environment for terrorists. in a statement yesterday, facebook said we do not allow groups or people that engage in terrorist activities or posts that express support for terrorism. facebook and other social media are coming under increased criticism following saturday's attacks in london for not cracking down on extremists' online messages. apple's annual worldwide developers conference starts today in san jose, california. that's when apple shows off its latest software and gadgets. this year analysts are expected a siri tower speaker to compete with the amazon echo and google phone.

our top story this morning, london bridge reopened today following saturday's terrorist attack leaving seven dead and 48 wounded. isis claimed responsibility. london police killed the three attackers and have 12 others in custody. a canadian and frenchman were among the first confirmed death. an american, german, spaniard, and a man from new zealand are among the wounded. witnesses say the three attackers said this is for allah during their rampage. police officers killed them within eight minutes of arriving on the scene. north of london in manchester a benefit concert was held to help the city heel after a suicide bombing two weeks ago. ariana grande returned to the stage yesterday following the attack at her concert. jonathan vigliotti was there.

>> reporter: the a-list roster anchored by ariana grande began with an emotional reminder of what brought everyone here. >> we are a city united and we will remain a city united. >> reporter: the one love manchester concert was meant to honor the victims of the deadly bombing nearly two weeks ago. >> so, tonight, manchester, let's send our own to our friends in london who are going through the same that we were going through. >> reporter: but the message took deeper meaning and along with it renewed fear in the wake of the london attack. >> is there any part of you that's afraid to be here today especially in light of the attack that took place just >> yes, definitely. >> reporter: 16-year-olds tia larson and holly thornton were at the manchester concert when the bombing struck.
