linked. well, the day before former fbi director james comey is expected to testify before the senate intelligence committee we're learning more about the relationship. he told jeff sessions he did not want to be left alone with president trump. that came after mr. trump according to comey asked him to drop the investigation, according to michael flynn. and the "washington post" is reporting that the president asked the director of national intense jens if he could intervene with comey on the russian investigation. weijia jiang with more on this. good morning, weijia. >> reporter: good morning, anre. he asked him to publicly state there was no collusion between russia and the state campaign. today they will be grilling him before they do the same to comey. president trump wished james comey well tuesday ahead of his highly anticipated testimony

before the senate intelligence committee. ousted fbi director is expected to detail his interactions with the president before he was abruptly fired last month. among them, that mr. trump allegedly asked him to drop the investigation before national security adviser michael flynn, an individual familiar with what comey told associates after that request told cbs news, comey asked attorney general jeff sessions to prevent him from being alone in a room with president trump again in order to protect the fbi from white house influence. while comey isn't expected to say whether the president obstructed justice, he'll likely address president trump's claim that comey repeatedly told him he was not the subject of the fbi's probe. the white house has yet to say whether the president will push back against comey's 278 by tweeting in real time. >> my guess is he's going to let the testimony play out and then

respond to it some time later that day. >> reporter: comey's testimony on capitol hill here tomorrow comes amid mounting tension between the president and attorney general jeff sessions. yesterday sean spicer refused to say whether the president still has confidence in sessions. >> i have not had a discussion with him about it. >> reporter: the president remains disappointed over sessions recusal over the ongoing investigations into russia. even though comey is expected to offer up details about the conversations he had with the president, he's not expected to draw conclusions or offer analysis. and, anne-marie, has not expected to testimony about evidence that's still part of the ongoing investigation. >> well, we will be watching. cbs news has learned that russian hackers may have helped spark the diplomatic crisis in the persian gulf. the fbi is assisting the cutter

to investigation which involving planting a fake news story. meanwhile president trump is using his twitter account to take sides in the escalating dispute. margaret brennan reports. >> president trump appears to take credit for sparking the diplomatic crisis. in a series of tweets he said his recent visit to saudi arabia was paying off as the kingdom and nine other countries severed relations with qatar. instead, offering to sell him weapons. >> lots of beautiful military equipment. >> during that trip the president vowed to unify the muslim world against terrorism and iran, but tensions spiked in the last 24 hours with countries in the region closing their airspace blocking trade and cutting diplomatic ties, causing qatar to stockpile food.

at least 600 people were blocked inside the popular tourist site as police secured the area. one officer was slightly wounded. police investigating the suicide bombing attack in manchester last month arrested a 38-year-old man at london's heathrow airport tuesday. he was charged under the terrorism act and remains in custody. and a man was arrested this morning in east london in connection with the attack at london bridge. police identified the third attacker, a man known by italian officials who passed their concerns on to the british officials last year. seven people were killed in saturday's attack. two were australians. prince harry remembered them during a visit to sydney. australians form an important and vibrant part of the attack in london and we're reminded of that in good times and in bad and our hearts go out to the victims, their friends, and families. >> one of the australian victim was a nurse who was killed while

helping other victims. the ride hailing company uber fired more than 20 employees following an internal investigation following sexual harassment. some of those let go were senior employees. the investigation was launched after a former employee failed to act on sexual harassment complaints. former attorney general holder has conducted a separate investigation. the cross-compassion resumes today of a women who accuses bill cosby of sexual assault. testifying yesterday andrea constant said cosby gave her pills that left her helpless. >> reporter: bill cosby returned to a pennsylvania courthouse tuesday where he came face-to-face with the woman whose sexual assault allegations brought him here. on day two of the 79-year-old entertainer's trial, the prosecution's key witness andrea constant took the witness stand and tell the jury cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her at

his mansion in 2004. the former employee went to him for advise. he gave her three pills that were herbal. he told her to put them down, they are your friends, they will take the edge off. about a half hour later she was confuse and disoriented when cosby sexually assaulted her. she said i was very limp and i couldn't fight him in any way. i wanted to stop. constand said he gave her benadryl to help her sleep. later he admitted to giving quaaludes to help her sleep. cosby claims the encounter was consensual. kenneth craig, cbs news, new york. in florida, a new round of thunderstorms will bring rain to wide areas that are already

our top story this morning, a pair of takes in the iranian capital of tehran. at least eight people were wounded when gunmen opened fire in the iranian parliament. that's according to an iranian news agency. and a security guard was killed in than assault at the shrine of ayatollah khamenei. it's not clear who was involved in the attacks. comey told attorney general jeff sessions that he didn't want to be left alone with the president after comey says mr. trump asked him to drop the

investigation into michael flynn. well, a woman from connecticut is rowing her way to a longer and better life. don dahler caught up with her. >> reporter: huge sports are as grueli grueling as competitive rowing. 76 yeardley maxine has been rowing for 15 year. she's the oldest member of her team, the blood street skulls. >> the whole idea is to literally row as one so that the boat moves together. >> reporter: as a 26-year breast cancer survivor, she was looking for a new challenge and took up the sport on a lark. during a race she didn't believe the man steering the boat, they were actually in the lead. >> he's saying, guys, keep it up, you're in first place. none of us believed. we said, you're just saying
