two escaped inmates are finally captured after running into a hoist to hide out. >> they thought they were going to steal a vehicle from the residence. little did they know it was not. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. congressman steve scalise remains in critical condition following multiple surgeries. authorities are learning more about the gunman who shot scalise and three others, but last night scalise was on the minds of fellow lawmakers who played the annual congressional baseball game in honor of their wounded colleague. weijia jiang is in washington. weijia, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. players in both parties wore hats to represent the louisiana state university.

it was one of many tributes at the stadium where politics stayed on the sidelines. democrats, 11, republicans, 2, but the oners of the annual congressional baseball game handed over the trophy as quickly as they received it, asking that it be placed in representative steve scalise's office. >> we're brothers and sisters. the trophy doesn't mean anything. our friendship does. >> scalise was one of four people shot wednesday during practice in the game. doctors say he may receive further rounds of surgery though his condition has improved in the last 24 hours. back at the game david bailey injured in the shooting threw out the first pitch surrounde m won and he didn't play and he was the difference in winning and losing.

james hodgkinson, law enforcement officials tell cbs news they now have his laptop and cell phone. outside his home his wife addressed reporters for the first time. >> i can't believe he did this. i cannot believe it. >> federal agents say they traced the guns hodgkins used and they're looking into how he knew about the baseball practice and whether hodgkinson was targeting anyone. so far investigators have not linched hodgkinson to any radical or terrorist groups, but, anne-marie, they have put together a pretty clear picture of a man fueled by anger toward republicans. >> all right. so sad. weijia jiang in washington. thank you so much, weijia. president trump is back on twitter responding to reports that he is now under investigation for possible obstruction of justice. the president's twiker attack came amid a report that robert

mueller is getting mr. trump's son-in-law jared kushner. the "washington post" had previously report they'd were looking at meetings with russia. jeff pegues has the lated on the investigation. >> reporter: the president's tweets came after the "washington post" reports president trump is now the subject of an obstruction investigation. his response, they made up a phony collusion with the russian story, found zero proof and now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. nice. cbs news has learned special counsel robert mueller will interview director of national intelligence dan coats and admiral mike rogers on whether they tamped down on the investigation into allegations of collusion with russia. a week ago former fbi director james comey told senators that he believed he was fired by mr.

been on the run since tuesday when they allegedly killed two guards and escaped from a prison bus. since then they stoel several cars, ransacked homes and held an elderly couple hostage. they held a wild chase in tennessee. they crashed, tried to steal a home and picked the wrong home. >> the homeowner stepped out and held them by gun poin until another neighbor came to assist him. >> both were serving sentences for robbery and other crimes. high winds and low humidity are fueling nearly 30 wildfires in arizonalet last night two communities were evacuated as the high line fire approachedlet it merged with another fire consuming over 4, 00 akers. excessive heat warnings are

lawmakers on both sides are concerns that the replacement for obamacare is being drafted in secret. senate leaders won't say how the bill differs from the one passed by the house. among those who haven't seen it? the health and human services secretary. senate minority leader chuck schumer said republicans are ashamed of the bill. the "associated press" reports that 4,000 more american troops will be sent to afghanistan. an administration official says most of them will train afghan forces. it would be the largest troop deployment of president trump's tenure. "the wall street journal" says facebook is expanding its use of artificial intelligence to block terrorist propaganda. facebook says it can block or automatically delete terrorist postings and accounts. the software scans photos and videos as well as writing to spot extremism content. "the seattle times" say says regulators approved a cheaper rival of the epipen allergy

not everyone's happy about it. hena daniels is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, hena. >> good morning, anne-marie. here on wall street they continue their recent slump. they've been slipping since last week. the nasdaq is on track for its second consecutive weekly loss. yesterday the dow jones lost 14 points. the s&p 500 finished 5 points lower. japanese airbag manufacturer takata is reportedly preparing to file for bankruptcy. takata faces billions in liabilities stemming from defective airbags. the bankruptcy filing could come as early as next week according to reuters. takata has been working to get financial backing from the u.s. auto parts maker key safety systems. nike is cutting 1,400 jobs. the company says it's going to focus on its hottest selling sneakers and cut the number of styles it sells. nike plans to sell more shoes directly to customers online. sales of running performance sneakers were flat and

well, the united states military has unveiled its latest class of unmanned attack drone. the new model is larger and more sophisticated than the ones before with wide-ranging capabilities. danielle nottingham gives us a rare behind-the-scenes look. >> reporter: this is the mq-9 reaper, the air force's latest remotely piloted aircraft. attack drone is replacing an older model which will be retired next year. the mq-9 is equipped with high-definition sensors and more firepower, and with a larger payload, it can carry thousands of pounds of missiles and bombs and fly up to 22 hours without refueling.
