live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. >> now at noon, two deadly crashes just hours apart on the same stretch of interstate 80. good afternoon. i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm anne makovec in for kenny choi. the chp is on the hunt for the driver involved in one of those

crashes. >> reporter: just after 4 a.m. flashing lights marked the spot of the first deadly crash. chp says i-80 west and el portal, a woman lost control of her car. >> she spun out with the lights outs. and a dodge charger collided with a vehicle. we think that she was exiting the vehicle at the same time. >> reporter: the driver of the accord died on scene. the coroner's office identified the woman as a 25-year-old. chp is reminding drivers say in your car with your seat belt on after a crash. >> she could have survived if she would have stayed in the vehicle. >> reporter: moments after the crash scene was cleared, traffic picked back up and a second didly crash involving a

motorcycle and a semi. >> the semi made an unsafe lane change and the driver got ejected from the motorcycle. the truck driver pulled over for a few minutes before taking off. chp doesn't have a driver description but officers are looking for a yellow truck with a white trailer. it could affect you drive in san francisco. red transit lanes are being considered for 50 more seats. some riders say the current red lanes have shottenned the commutes and some are concerned that drivers will now steer clear of mom and pop shops. check out the mess in napa after a water main break. this happened late last night in the 2500 block of laurel

street. crews managed to secure the hole before property was damaged. wildfire in mariposa county is 15% contained this afternoon. it broke out near state route 49, 50 miles north of fresno. the fire quickly jumped the highway. it's caused a power outage that left about 2000 people without electricity. >> new at noon, dozens of bay area residents from 28 different countries became u.s. citizens. they took the oath of the flight deck of the uss hornet in alameda. >> reporter: 76 people are becoming american citizens today. some tell us it's the political unrest of the country that made them want to take the next official step. >> i'm from france. >> i'm from mexico. >> afghanistan. >> the people are from 28 different countries and as of today, they are all americans. >> the times, they are a

mornings. the president's tweets -- the president reached out to the japanese prime minister and he's preparing for a meeting with vladimir putin on the sidelines of the g-20 summit. for cbs news, the white house. police in germany say 18 people are dead and dozens injured after a bus crashed into another people. firefighters worked to put out the smoldering wreckage hours after the crash. the bus had collided with a truck during rush hour around 7 a.m. local time. the bus was carrying a group of german senior citizens, in all, 48 people on board. a dramatic rescue in dallas. it took go hours to reach him

for today's "student rising above" alum -- graduation was abo de. kpix 5 years of hard work and college built up to one big day and a walk across the stage. >> graduation was about a promise she made. ♪ [ music ] >> reporter: commencement, a day of triumph, family, and a promise kept. >> this was my dad's dream and like i promised him 10 years ago, you know, i will walk this stage and become a successful person. >> reporter: the journey began a decade ago.
