to excited paradegoers on the route. >> reporter: 40,000 people are lining the streets in downtown danville watching about 150 patriotic entries for this year's 4th of july parade. downtown danville covered in red, white and blue. low riders rolling by, fans marching by and american patriotism on full display. >> i love it. i love the flags. >> reporter: elma is originally from mexico. every year her and her family claim spots to get front row seats to the 4th of july parade. >> i am from another country so the 4th of july is outstanding. >> reporter: the young and young at heart -- >> turning 100 years old. >> reporter: keeping american traditions alive and celebrating the rich cultures that shape the nation. >> probably our fifth or sixth year doing it. it's great. you see everybody from the

school, community and sports. wonderful way to start off the holiday. as americans celebrate tree dome, herb costa says remember those who fought to protect it. >> the veterans from previous wars have it free to we have free speech and free religion in the united states as it stands. >> reporter: the parade bringing out tens of thousands from near and far to proudly celebrate independence day. >> happy fourth. >> reporter: in danville, jessica flores, kpix. the morgan hills parade is and way. freedom fest started a couple of hours away. plenty of families were on the parade route decked out in red, white and blue and waving their american flags. >> everything put together. everyone comes together. it's nice. >> there are marching bands, cars and floats and even smoky the bear made an appearance. a lot of people are getting ready to light fireworks at home or in their neighborhoods.

officials want to make sure that you know which ones to use and how to do it safely. jackie ward has that story. >> pacifica is one city in the bay area where you can legally buy and set off fireworks. but only certain ones. stands like this one are all over pacifica. each one are selling what are called safe and sane fireworks. fireworks that are legal or don't explode and produce an aerial effect. >> we are one of those places that are lucky to have a community that has fireworks. we get lots of folks that come into town, spend money in town and use it in our town. >> reporter: for the last two weeks, tom has been putting in 14 to 15 hour workdays here and he is doing it for the kids of the city. proceeds from the sales benefit the pacifica girls softball league. >> never turned away a girl who wanted to play for us. this helps do that. >> reporter: sales help out the

pacifica's police department overtim budget used for over the weekend. >> we never had anyone say, no, we are good. they say that's great. we are helping support the police and fire. >> reporter: they are reminding through fliers that because these are legal to use, it doesn't mean all are. you may have to pay a fine if you get caught using illegal ones. the national fireworks safety is reminding people to be safe celebrating today. follow local laws, use adult supervision, wear safety glasses, light outdoors and never relight a dud. because you can buy them here doesn't mean you can take them and use them where they are not legal. if you have any questions, contact local law enforcement. along with pacifica, safe and sane fireworks are allowed

in san bruno, roanoke park, petaluma, gilroy, newark, union city, and cloverdale. if you leave the fireworks to the pros, one of the biggest is in san francisco. crews will set off nearly 10,000 fireworks at the embarcadero. two barges will serve as launching pads. the show starts at 9:30. >> for those of you heading to the big fireworks show at the alameda county fair, get there early. officials will close the entrances and parking lots at 6:00. they are trying to make the crowd sizemore manageable. if you are still deciding on which celebrations to cheng out, we can help. use the link on our web site. to the white house, president trump is reacting to north korea's latest ballistic missile test. the country claims it had the power to possibly reach alaska.

>> reporter: north korean leader kim jong-un celebrated his country's latest missile test. this flew for 40 minutes and reached an altitude of 1500 miles before splashing in the sea of japan. with a projected range of more than 4,000 miles, it would be capable of hitting all of alaska but not the continental united states or hawaii. it was a hassan missile. that would be a first. pentagon officials think it was more likely an intermediate missile. >> what they say isn't the issue. the issue is they keep doing it over and over again. >> reporter: president trump called on china to step up its pressure on north korea to stop the nuclear program. the "new york times" reports that president trump warned that the u.s. is ready to act

on its own. but mike morrell says options are limited and a military strike is off the table. >> there is no option to do that that wouldn't start a second korean war and wouldn't raise the possibility of him using nuclear weapons against his neighbors. >> reporter: china and russia are proposing the u.s. and south korea refrain from joint military exercises 234 the region in exchange for north korea halting the tests. the white house confirmed that president trump will meet with russian president vladimir putin on friday. there is no agenda for the talks but north korea is likely to come up. the state beaches and parks are back open in new jersey after governor chris christie and democratic lawmakers reached a late night budget deal that even as the stalemate came to an end the governor continued to face questions over his family's time on a beach that was closed to everyone else. >> shame on those people who wanted to make this as if we

were taking advantage of something. let's be really clear, that is our residence. we have a right to be there whenever we want to be there. >> christie and his family were photographed relaxing on almost 10 miles of beach that they had to themselves as a result of the partial government shut down. critics say it was out of touch. >> people can't use a public beach then neither should the elected public official. >> this is an example of our politicians caring more about themselves than us. >> christie's job approval rating has sunk to 15%. he was ridiculed online. his image photoshopped into movie scenes and used as a reminder of the bridgegate scandal. superior court workers in san francisco are facing furloughs to bridge a $5 million budget gap. starting a month from today, court staff has to take off one friday per month without pay. clerk office hours will be shortened on friday.

that will last through june of next year. no layoffs are planned. police are trying to track down the person that killed a woman in san jose. officers were called to a home on south pence street last night after somebody heard loud bangs inside. they found a woman shot and she later died. this word on -- no word on a suspect description or what lead up to the shooting. 12 water agencies have a plan to expand one of the largest reservoirs in the bay area. it is between brentwood and livermore. now a proposed 800 million- dollar expansion would raise the dam by 55 feet. it would take it from its current 160,000-acre capacity up to 275,000-acres. contra cost take county owns the reservoir. they scheduled a series of meetings starting july 11th around the bay area. still ahead, a shed blasted apart. it's caught on camera. the explosive combination that lead to that.

ripped this garden shed apart in england. gas vapors were ignited causing the walls and roof to blast apart. then flames and smoke spread quickly. this is newly released video of the incident from last month. some american tourists are across the pond celebrating independence day at benjamin franklin's day in london. he lived there for 16 years before returning in 1775. the next year he signed the declaration of independence. he was from this home that he lobbied the british government to give more rights to americans that were paying taxes. visitors can tour year-round. millions of people will be raising a glass to celebrate independence day. it turns out more americans are drinking spirits like whiskey. that led to a nationwide boom in small distilleries. sounds like i have been having some myself. the chris martinez visited one in the middle of sonoma wine
