troubling for menlo park's fire chief. >> reporter: construction crews continue to work today on the massive steel frame set to be facebook's building 21. the site cal/osha is now investigating after a worker plummeted 15 feet from the fourth floor. according to the menlo park fire department, the worker fell from the fourth floor to the third floor tuesday when a piece of steel he stepped on dislodged. in a statement, the fire chief said: >> he was rushed to stanford hospital's trauma center where he is recovering. this isn't the first time firefighters had to rush to this construction site. back in april, two workers were 40 feet high when their steel beam under them dropped.

luckily their safety harnesses saved them. the fire chief says, that's not only very unusual but it deeply concerns me." we reached out to the contractor and to facebook. the companies have not responded to our requests for comment. in menlo park, jessica flores, kpix 5. firefighters doused debris after a homeless encampment caught fire this morning in the mission bay neighborhood starting at 7 a.m. near 7th and berry streets. it was out in an hour. he cause is under investi gation. thousands of people have been forced from their homes by a raging wildfire burning in mariposa county and the fight is far from over. that fire is burning near yosemite national park. reporter ed crane shows us the damage left behind and communities that now resemble ghost towns. >> reporter: the size of this fire has almost doubled overnight to 44,000 acres, at least 8 buildings are gone and containment is just 7% rising from 5% last night. coming from sacramento, we

followed the trail of this fire. it was charred in every direction for 20 miles. we didn't see any trees burned just brush. but not fire is going into the high country and you see various hot spots here. the fear from cal fire is that this humidity and heat will pick up that this ridge behind me will explode in a wall of flame. as for evacuations, 5,000 people have left mariposa. but it's something of a chicken or egg question. is everybody gone because of the fire or because there's no power in town? this natural disaster has become something of an economic disaster for mariposa. without power, all businesses are shut down including the motel which had a full house 78 rooms booked for the rest of the week. >> we have been selling out every day. >> reporter: like eight grand a day as long as this goes on. at least. >> we do have over 2200 personnel in the area battling this fire. they are doing their best and trying to stay as safe as possible with the conditions. >> reporter: so with the warm

weather and containment at just 7%, firefighting efforts may go on for days. this firefighter came all the way from san diego. >> it's been growing exponentially pretty much over the past 24 hours. >> reporter: this could be a battle for several days, maybe a week. these firefighters are going to be very weary before it's over. here's a live look from the fire zone. you can see flames and plenty of smoke from the vantage point on a hillside. the fire has doubled in size overnight burning roughly about 45,000 acres. structures are already destroyed and, of course, these flames fueled by the tall grass and some overgrown shrubs you can see in the picture. governor brown already has declared a state of emergency on tuesday. smoke from the fire is creating hazy conditions about 200 miles way in reno, as well. the national weather service says that a cluster of thunderstorms is pushing it into the area. it's so bad that officials are warning people in reno to keep

their windows closed today and limit their time outside. right now, search-and- rescue crews are looking for a missing boater. authorities were alerted yesterday afternoon of the empty boat in tomales bay. another boat spotted it floating in circles with no one on board. officials say the man who was on it is a 70-year-old employ at tomales bay oyster company. multiple marin agencies, the chp and coast guard are searching for him. they don't believe he was wearing a life vest. closing the wage gap in is as mayor ed lee puts equal pay in the spotlight. kpix 5's anne makovec explains what this ordinance means for women in the workplace. >> reporter: this ordinance does two things. it strengthens mandates on equal pay for equal work. and it also bans employers from asking job applicants how much they made at their last jobs. mean, this is actually a sorry thing to have to say that we are behind. >> reporter: according to the u.s. census, women make 79 cents for every dollar earned by men. in california it is 84 cents to the dollar. need do everything to remedy that. >> reporter: for decades, the california equal pay act has banned an employer from paying men more than women for equal work. in 2016, the fair pay act strengthened that giving employees the right to ask about their coworkers' wages. this city ordinance aims to stop a cycle that begins before an employee is hired having their salary based on what they made at their last job. >> women who begin their careers earning lower salaries continue to earn less throughout the course of their careers when employers set pay based on prior salaries. >> reporter: even with the new rules, city officials see a long road to equality and have one request. >> that we all take personal responsibility for making sure we are looking at those wage

gaps, we are helping to build that equity. >> reporter: the ordinance goes into effect july 2018. the punishment? first a warning, then a $100 fine. but if the violation is egregious, the city can file a civil suit against the employer. anne makevoc, kpix 5. new at noon, people flying from mexico to the u.s. can expect longer wait times at tsa checkpoints. kpix 5's jackie ward explains the new security measures that just took effect. >> reporter: at airports across the country today, including here at sfo, a partial electronics ban went into effect. in statement from mexico's transportation department, this measure applies to anything larger than a cell phone so we're focusing on tablets and laptops. this is only for u.s.-bound flights from mexico and doesn't allow passengers to have these bigger electronics in their carry-ons. the mexican government is asking that all travelers to the u.s. show up three hours

before their departure so they can get screened in time. jackie ward, kpix 5. republican senators just wrapped up a working lunch with president trump to talk about the failed plan to repeal and replace obamacare. weijia jang reports. >> reporter: president trump told republican senators, it's time they did the job they were elected to do. >> for seven years you promised the american people that you would repeal obamacare. people are hurting! inaction is not an option! >> reporter: the president pushed the senators to sign off on the latest bill which repeals obamacare but delays it for two years giving senators time to figure out a replacement. >> any senator who votes against starting debate is really telling america that you're fine with obamacare. >> reporter: but moderates and conservatives can't agree on the best way to move forward. >> until there's a vote, there's still an opportunity to come up with something which is common ground for enough folks to pass legislation. >> reporter: senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is moving forward with the bill

for armed robbery involving sports memorabilia. john blackstone reports. >> guilty. guilty. >> reporter: this was trial that put oj simpson behind bars nearly a decade ago. in 2007 surveillance video from a las vegas casino shoulder him leaving a sports memorabilia man's hotel room back into the national spotlight. the meeting was arranged with dealers who had items stolen from simpson. he made an audio recording of the confrontation part of which was played in court. [ yelling and cursing ] >> that one phrase, don't let anybody out of the room, that really got him convicted. that's what jurors said -- >> i think you're right. yeah. they considered that kidnapping when they said don't let him out and the guys -- your pillowcases pulled out guns turned it into armed robbery. that's why he is in jail today. >> reporter: one was given immunity and testified for the prosecution. the nevada jury found simpson

guilty of kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. he was sentenced to a minimum nine years in prison. >> i am sorry for what has happened. >> reporter: he was last seen at a parole hearing on lesser charges four years ago. >> i just wish i had never gone to that room. i wish i didn't. i wish i had just said keep and not worry about it. >> reporter: at that hearing the parole board ruled this is favor but he was not released. retired prison guard jeffrey felix says he befriended simpson and said he has been a model inmate. >> that was john blackstone reporting. the parole board is now allowed to consider his murder trial in making their recommendations tomorrow. the dow is up about 44 points right now. following our wet winter, gold has resurfaced along the banks of some northern california rivers. as angela greenwood reports, gold panners and gold merchants are cashing in. >> reporter: they are finding the gold in the feather river,

talk about so let's get to it. first off today is warmer in all areas with the summertime weather pattern continuing through the end of the week and then we bump up those temperatures for the weekend. sure, it's still monsoonal moisture lifting into the desert southwest. we have a little bit of intrusion with the clouds hanging very tight to the san mateo coast. otherwise, high pressure is in command. we have low pressure to the north and smack in between, kind of like a zonal flow so our temperatures are going to be pretty much close to where they should be for this time of the year, all the way through friday. so the clouds again hang tight to the coast. tomorrow morning same. and then during the afternoon and evening hours, we see that shallow deck of clouds begin to treat allowing the temperatures to warm additionally just in time for the weekend. statewide, 102 in fresno. 91 degrees at the state capital. and the high sierra, we have high 70s and 64 degrees in monterey bay. 90 in ukiah. official sunrise tomorrow is at
