conceal in the contact with the russians. seth lemon on his denial of any improper behavior. >> reporter: jared kushner met with senator investigators and said he did not collude with russia during the campaign. >> nor do i know of anyone else in the campaign who did so. >> reporter: he met with a russian banker in december. around the same time he also met with a russian ambassador to the u.s. he was looking to establish a line of communications to talk about syria. >> the record and documents i have voluntarily provided will show that all of my actions were proper and occurred in the normal course of events of a very unique campaign. >> reporter: today's senate testimony was just the first meeting for kushner. he'll be back tomorrow to meet with the house intelligence committee. >> his counsel has said they'll

only make him available for two hours. there are a great many questions for mr. kushner. >> reporter: president trump slammed the top democrat tweeting sleazy -- spends all of his time on television pushing the dems loss excuse. >> asking why he and congress have not investigating hillary clinton. the president said he wouldn't have nominated sessions to the department of justice if he had known he was going to recuse himself from the russia investigation. president trump's oldest son and paul manifort have agreed to their own meeting. president trump is expected to give a statement on healthcare this afternoon. the senate is scheduled to vote on the latest investigation of the bill this week.

and the president warned gop lawmakers this is their last chance. we'll write you the president's remarks live when they happen. a car hit the side of a building and another car is damaged as well. this is at folsom and 11th streets. one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. it's not clear what led to this crash. state regulators and chevron have reached a settlement following the refinery fire in richmond. the plan aims to improve safety for the refinery and surrounding communities. replacing piping will cost $15 million. and chevron would pay $782,000 in penalties plus an additional sars r -- the agreement needs

further approval. we'll have more on kpix news at 5:00. >> >> in san jose, crews are working to fix a leaking propane tank at 4th street and gish road. firefighters have their gas masks on as they work on the repairs. no injuries have been reported and we'll bring you updates as we get them. firefighters have gained control of a quick moving brush fire in gilroy. the weather has played a vital roll. >> most of the fire is on private property. you can see behind me on the hillside the blackened grass leading up to the tree line, showing you exactly where the fire spread. 4:00 sunday, a small brush fire ignited spreading quickly to more than 125 acres in just a matter of hours. >> reporter: some areas, the dozer couldn't make access because it was too steep. >> the terrains and winds

causing issues for firefighters who used an air tanker and helicopters to douse the flames. high humidity helped. >> we had the fog come in which really helped. >> reporter: a gilroy resident stopped by monday to check the progress. >> i'm happy that's all it is. i wish that -- >> fire engines from other parts of the bay area were on hand as crews are stretched to cover a high number of fires. >> we've had a lot of grass fires in santa clara county. at least one or two a day. not quite this size but at least 10 to 15 acres. it's been a busy season. today will be about the mopup phase. they'll be monitoring for hot spots. the cause is under investigation. sandra osborne, kpix 5.

a live look outside, and warm conditions in the east bay and a drop from the hot weekend. roberta gonzales has more. we have dropped significantly. right now the gilroy area we have a bit of a breeze up to 10. and the temperature is 71. that's down from yesterday at 99 degrees. looking out to the bay waters, the conditions are pristine and visibility is unlimited. that's a beautiful view, the skyline of san francisco. a few puffy clouds lining the ridge. in oakland, it's 64 for the cool spot. 70 in santa rosa and 80 in san jose. going up to a high in the low 80s. down from 87 degrees in livermore to 87 degrees today. down from 101 in brentwood and discovery bay to 90 degrees. and 70s and 80s, very seasonal around the peninsula. we'll talk about the warmup and when you should expect that to

occur. a battle in alameda county over plans to expand the santa rita jail. why activists want the proposal rejected. the board of supervisors is discussing mental health initiatives at the santa rita jail. activists say the county is spending money in the wrong program. a special meeting to speak out against the jail expansion project. the board of supervisors voted to spend $60 million to expand the medical wing and improve mental health services. the county wants more crisis stabilization units and outpatient programs. the group opposing the plans says the county's investment in the jail is taking money away from community based mental health services like diversion programs of supportive housing. >> we want funds to go to

community-based programs. people should not be locked up because they are mentally ill. being in prison tears you apart from your family and creates and exacerbates mental illness. >> 20 to 25% of the jail population has a documented mental health issue. i'm jessica flores, kpix 5 news. police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting in san jose. no injuries have been reported. police are investigating what led up to the shooting. crews evacuated the extended stay america hotel on san ignacio avenue this morning. officers responded to a possible hazmat situation and it turns out it was pepper spray. unclear if anybody was hurt. police are looking for a group of car vandals who vandalizes cars in brentwood and livermore. 17 cars at the hampden inn were

vandalizes. and 34 near tiger lily commons. the driver of a truck used in a deadly smuggling incident has been charged. ten people died and a dozen others were found near death. >> reporter: james bradley, the driver of the truck that became a death trap arrived at federal court. he's charged with transporting immigrants illegally. he drove a truck packed with immigrants. the charge carries a possibility of the death penalty. as many as 100 people may have been crammed into the sweltering trailer as it rode without water to a walmart parking lot. some took off before authorities arrived. and 10 people died and 30 others were sent to the hospital with extreme dehydration. >> this happens more than you

the parents of a critically ill baby in london are dropping the legal battle to take him to the united states for experimental treatment. jane ferguson has the latest developments. >> charlie gard's parents walked out of britain's high court after withdrawing a bid to have their critically ill son sent to the united states for the treatment. >> it's no longer in charlie's best interests to pursue treatment and we will let our son go and be with the angels. >> the 11-month-old has a rare condition and the parents wanted an experimental treatment. doctors in london argued that the treatment wouldn't help and instead would prolong his suffering. >> we are about to do the hardest thing we'll ever have to do. >> reporter: the judge

forecast with roberta. >> i live in the inland areas and i'm just tired of the heat. we've had 10 or 11 days of temperatures over 100 degrees. to call it unseasonably warm to hot, it's spot on. you have the view of mount diablo and the visibility is unlimited and the sky is blue. and a little sea haze looking over twin peaks towards the ocean. otherwise, temperatures responding to the sunshine. and it's 80 in san jose and 73 in redwood city. and low 70s in oakland back through richmond. livermore in the low 80s and the winds are picking up gently. 21 firefield. notice the winds southwest. these are variable and will continue through the afternoon at 10 to 20 miles per hour. and in addition to that we have an enhanced marine layer.
