morning and attorneys for the master tenant derick almena asked the judge to lower his bail. kpix 5's neda iranpour has the update. >> reporter: the attorney for derick almena not pleased with the outcome of the his bail was lowered from $750,000 from 1 million. but his attorney says his client is not rich and he want to be able to afford bail to be with his wife and children, who he saw in court today with a dozen friends. >> from our perspective, that's outrageous. he is not a flight risk at any level. we feel very frustrated and angry: >> reporter: the 47-year-old lived at the ghost ship with his family. they approved almena and the kids to live in the warehouse by family services. 36 people died at the inferno trapped at a dance party including a woman whose parents

were in court her mother crying as the victim's family attorney spoke of the loss. >> we are very pleased they won't be coming home to their families. these young people who lost their lives will never come home. >> reporter: the warehouse was turned into living quarters. the creative director at the time max harris also facing 36 charges of involuntary manslaughter. attorneys for both said they will enter pleas in september. their attorneys said the two men are being made scapegoats and the building owners city officials, firefighters and pg&e should all be held accountable. >> putting them on trial is wrong. they are the wrong people. >> reporter: the victim's family attorney saying she will be filing a lawsuit against the third party saying there were several people who were involved for those caught in the fire trap. neda iranpour, kpix 5. new at noon caltrain

getting back to normal after a train crashed into a truck. it happened on the tracks in burlingame just before 9:00 this morning. nobody was hurt. but from this view of chopper 5, you can see the collision left that truck in bad shape. more than a dozen vehicles were destroyed after a fire broke out in a carport in campbell. kpix 5's jessica flores tells us some quick thinking neighbors jumped in to keep the flames from spreading. >> reporter: firefighters have closed off the carport area as they investigate how this fire started. right now investigators do believe it started out of this barbecue grill that was placed right between the wall and this first car. the mass of flames covered the apartment complex carport ripping through 16 cars. all just feet away from bedrooms and homes. yo i wrapped him in a blanket and -- >> i wrapped a blanket and him

and ran out. the flames were just huge. >> reporter: as santa clara county fire crews evacuated residents near hamilton andover way, neighbor steve chapman grabbed a hose trying to keep flames from jumping the fence into his property. >> it actually had a like a dust devil, a fire tornado out in the middle of the parking lot. that's when i said, time to go. >> reporter: firefighters put out the fire before it spread to any structures. then spent the morning hosting down hot spots. residents assessed the damage. stephanie said her family lost the car her late grandmother passed down to them. >> we thought we would lose everything. i know it's just material objects but you're not prepared for something like this. >> reporter: the fire reduced the cars to charred frames but no one was injured. jessica flores, kpix 5. san francisco police stepping up patrols at dolores park after a shooting that left

three people hurt. kpix 5's jackie ward tells us the gunmen are still on the loose. >> reporter: before yesterday's triple shooting at dolores park, sfpd only patroled the area round the clock on saturdays and sundays. starting today, that changes. sfpd is increasing security at dolores park following a shooting in the middle of the afternoon thursday. two patrol units will now be there 24/7. >> my first birthday party there at dolores, i remember there were drug busts back then and then there were a lot more drug activity back then. so taking my kid here feels safer than when i was here. >> reporter: carl and his mother beth have lived there for decades and walk their dogs once a day in the park. they said they are not going to stop doing what they love. >> it would change my life quite a bit to not come here again. and i don't want to be afraid

of anything. >> i think it was a very unusual incident and it's over. things are fine. i'm not afraid to be there this morning. >> reporter: this tourist from michigan feels safe and took note of the police presence. >> i honestly thought they were here for the homeless population. they are just keeping an eye on everything. so, yeah, i don't -- i'm not too concerned. i think it's a nice area. >> reporter: sfpd believes this was a targeted incident. three people were shot and all remain in the hospital including one person who was shot in the face. witnesses said they saw the suspects take off in a car after the shooting and this afternoon, they are still out there. at dolores park, jackie ward, kpix 5. we now know a pilot who was killed in a plane crash in sacramento county was a dentist from the bay area. that 71-year-old crashed in a backyard in rio linda

yesterday. he cause is under investigation. new at noon, attorney general jeff sessions says the u.s. will not stand for any more leaks of government information. he just announced a crackdown. mola lenghi has details from washington. >> reporter: attorney general jeff sessions issued a warning to would-be leakers. >> we will investigate and seek to bring criminals to justice. we will not allow rogue anonymous sources with security clearances to sell out our country. >> reporter: sessions said there's been a dramatic growth in the number of unauthorized disclosures of classified national security information and pointed to this week's publication of transcripts from the president's call with the leaders of mexico and australia. >> no government can be effective when its leaders cannot discuss sensitive matters in confidence to talk trial in confidence with foreign leaders. >> reporter: president trump frequently expresses his anger over leaks and has publicly pressed the attorney general to crack down. >> i want the attorney general to be much tougher on the leaks

from intelligence agents. >> reporter: sessions said the department of justice has tripled the number of investigations and the fbi is dedicating more resources to leaks. he also said the department of justice is reviewing guidelines for issuing subpoenas to journalists about their sources. >> we respect the important role that the press plays and will give them respect. but it is not unlimited. they cannot place lives at risk with impunity. >> reporter: director of national intelligence dan coats said leaks are coming from a wide range of sources, inside the government, including congress and the executive branch. mola lenghi cbs news, the white house. meanwhile, president trump continues to down play russia's alleged role in the 2016 election at a campaign style rally in west virginia yesterday. he dismissed the federal investigation as a fake news hoax. the comments come amid word that special counsel robert mueller has empaneled a grand jury to help expand his probe. the grand jury already issued

subpoenas in connection with the june 2016 meeting between donald trump, jr. and a russian lawyer. today officials in dubai are working to provide shelter for people affected by this inferno at one of the city's big high-rises. it lit up the night sky. it's not the first time this building went up in flames. the fire broke out just before 1 a.m. friday at torch tower one of the tallest residential buildings in the world. people across the city could see flames shooting up across dozens of floors and chunks of debris plummeting to the ground. >> oh!! look at all that stuff falling! >> reporter: he cause is under investigation. but dubai's police commander-in- chief says, authorities know it started on the 63rd floor. the residents were evacuated from this building to another one, he says. and there were no injuries. >> it's my home. >> reporter: many residents were asleep at the time, so building employees went knocking door it -- and

activated emergency sprinklers. this is the second time the 86- story torch tower has caught fire in about two years. flames also engulfed a 63-story luxury hotel in dubai in 2016. safety experts blame the spread of the blazes on a highly flammable material that covered the buildings. torch tower's siding was replaced last year. friday's team was reminiscent of a london high-rise fire in june at an apartment complex that used dangerous coating. at least 80 people died at grenfell tower forcing the british government to institute changes. earlier this year, dubai enforced new codes that require building owners to replace questionable siding with more fire resistant material. teri okita, cbs news, london. still ahead, two carmakers

last month more than expected. the unemployment rate went down to 4.3%. that news helped drive the stock market to a record high open today. right now, let's take a look at the big board. dow up 45. toyota and mazda are teaming up to build a new $1.6 billion plant here in the u.s. the plant is going to be able to produce about 300,000 cars a year and create up to 4,000 jobs. you may remember president trump criticized toyota for building a plant in mexico to make corollas. well, the company now says it will produce them at the u.s. plant and will, instead, make their tacoma pickups in mexico. a traffic alert for people living near the delta this weekend. kpix 5's jaclyn dunn reports. >> reporter: if you plan to go to i-5, do keep in mind that caltrans has a 55-hour closure and they are setting up for that tonight at 10:00. highway 12 will be shut down

california southern california. this is another scene this morning. we had a lot of low clouds and now they are beginning to wipe away towards the ocean as we look toward the golden gate bridge. this morning, we bottomed out just in the low 70s in livermore. that was the low. san francisco now at 65 degrees. san jose at 75. upper 60s right now in throughout portions of the bay area, oakland back through the berkeley region. west-northwest wind at 7. fluctuating winds throughout the afternoon increasing to 20, gusts late day up to 30 miles per hour. it's drippy, muggy, what can you say? 72 degrees. this is what you need to know. some unsettled conditions with that potential of a thunderstorm any point of the day. less humid over the weekend as the subtropical moisture continues to lift to the north. satellite-radar does suggest that more clouds today, but less clouds for your saturday.

today's comes from jennifer. her one-year- old cat is chewing everything from socks and dish every friday we ask our pet expert to weigh in on your questions. today's question is from jennifer. her 1-year-old cat is chewing socks, dish to us, shoestrings, earbuds and electrical cords. so she is asking, is this just arizona phase or could it be something in my laundry detergents? who knows. dr. jill chase has walter. thanks for being here today. you know, i have had cats my whole life and i have never run into them chewing electrical cords. is this common? >> it's not super common in cats. but some breeds of cats like siamese eat a lot of things that we would not expect like

plastic bags and like she is describing. so i was curious to know if her cat was siamese or mix because that would make me wonder about this being a breed disposition. in general, cats who shouldn't be eating all these things, we want to make sure we rule out any underlying medical problems so intestinal parasites would be high on the list and any other gi problems that's still in their stomach or intestinal tract so x-rays, possibly an ultra sound looking for why this cat might be eating things to maybe thinking it's going to make its tummy feel more comes but will be problematic in the future. >> a lot of animals that eat grass? >> that's a really great question. we definitely should address that on another episode but it's true that some owners think the reason dogs eat glass is to make their tummies feel better and that's certainly true that on many occasions that's why they're doing it and

what i do with the kale when i bring it home if i want to make it put it on the grill, i just take the kale and preboil it. i boil it just for a little -- whoops. falling apart. put this together. boil it just for a little while. then you take it out and put it on the grill with just a little bit of olive oil and salt and pepper. it can become crispy so you boil it a little while. then salt and pepper, oil on the grill, take it out, and just enjoy it. cut off the rib in the middle. use the leaf. and make a great salad. and i'm tony tantillo, your fresh grocer. nd always remember to eat fresh and stay healthy. to shoot the game of his life
