a cosmetologist dead inside a university professor's high- rise apartment in chicago. that professor and his alleged accomplice went on the run and turned themselves in here in the bay area. kpix 5's neda iranpour was in court as one of them faced a judge. >> reporter: it was a simple swift extradition hearing for a murder case that has international intrigue. andrew warren signed papers waiving his extradition in the could he was dressed in orange and had an assisted hearing device. he seemed to calmly answer all the questions and with that, warren will leave san francisco and head to chicago. that's also what happened to the other murder suspects, northwestern professor wyndham lathem. they were on the run for a week after 26-year-old cosmetologist trenton cornell-duranleau was found dead in chicago. there are questions as to what happened on july 27. lathem spoke with juliette goodrich. cameras were not allowed inside but she asked if he had

anything to do with the killing of trenton cornell-duranleau. lathem said i know you have come all this way to talk to me and i am sorry, i have been advised by attorney not to say anything without him. he also would not comment on a video he sent to loved ones apologizing for, quote, the biggest mistake of his life. but how does warren an administrative stafford at oxford university play a role? he flew from england to chicago three days prior to the murder. attorneys on both sides today were tight-lipped. >> mr. warren is agreeable to being transported to chicago. he wants the process to be started. i just want to remind everyone that he is presumed innocent. >> it is a simple procedure. he was found in the state, he turned himself in and now will be returned to illinois. >> reporter: meanwhile, wyndham lathem's attorney says they came here not bay area because lathem has friends and family here. both suspects are set to be faced first-degree murder charges. they will be leaving the bay area going to chicago in the next few days. bail hasn't been set for either

one of them. in san francisco, neda iranpour, kpix 5. new at noon, agents from the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives have found the cause of oakland's valdez street fire to be undetermined. the fire broke out in an apartment building under construction near lake merritt on july 7. hundreds of people in surrounding buildings were evacuated but no one was hurt in the fire. as police cracked down on bart fare jumpers, they are also investigate a violent robbery outside an east bay station. kpix 5's jessica flores has details from oakland. >> reporter: just as bart is facing a spike in assaults and robberies, a rider is attacked here last night in the parking lot for the ashby bart station. according to bart officials, two men knocked the victim down, punched him and kicked him, before taking off with the victim's backpack, wallet and watch. medics took the victim to the hospital with swelling and cuts. police are still looking for the suspects who they say are also suspected of another

robbery around the same time in a nearby neighborhood. as police try to crack down on robberies and assaults, bart officers are also working to stop fare cheaters a problem costing the agency $25 million a year. >> we're cracking down and we want to make sure that people know that the free ride is over. >> reporter: police issued 238 fare evasion tickets in july. bart has approved hiring 7 employees to tackle the problem and is working on raising the barriers at the gates. cracking down on this reduces other crime. this week 11 fare cheaters were arrested most for outstanding warrants. >> when we catch these criminals out there, and they think they can fare evade, they get stopped and pretty soon, they are headed to jail. >> reporter: in oakland, jessica flores, kpix 5. oakland police are investigating a carjacking at about 4:00 this morning. a woman report her child was in her car when it was stolen on the 1800 block of 64th avenue. a little while later, the child

was found inside the car about 2 blocks away. the child was medically treated at the scene and released to the family. no arrests have been made. today tensions continue to rise between north korea and the u.s. as both sides make threats. cbs reporter wendy gillette is at the white house with how china and russia are trying to cool things down. >> reporter: president trump issued a new warning to north korea's kim jong-un this morning. he tweeted, military solutions are now fully in place locked and loaded should knocked act unwisely. hopefully, kim jong-un will find another path. >> they have been doing this to our country for a long time for many years. and it's about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries. >> reporter: not to be outdone, north korea issued its own warning, saying if the u.s. launches an attack on the north, then it will immediately reduce the u.s. mainland into a field of nuclear war. president trump continues to push china to do more to stop

its neighbor and close ally from taking any drastic steps. >> i think china can do a lot more, yes. china can. and i think china will do a lot more. >> reporter: china delivered a warning to north korea today saying if it strikes the u.s. first, china will stay neutral. but beijing has also called on the u.s. to not take steps to further escalate tensions in the region and russia's foreign minister has called on north korea to stop testing missiles in exchange for the u.s. canceling its military exercises with south korea. the u.s. announced today it will carry out its annual exercises beginning august 21. north korea thought it was training for preparation for an invasion. wendy gillette, cbs news, the white house. >> the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff is headed to asia next week for talks with china, japan and south korea. the trip was scheduled prior to the latest tensions with the north. developing news in egypt, where at least 36 people were killed and as many as 100

people injured when two trains collided. transportation officials say that a train headed to alexandria slammed into the back of a train waiting at a station east of the city. no word on the cause of the crash. back here in the bay area, investigators are searching for these four burglary suspects. they are wanted in connection to three different home burglaries in blackhawk. if you recognize them, call the contra costa sheriff's department. the golden gate bridge district is taking legal action against a couple of daredevils. they climbed the bridge in the spring and took video and posted it on social media. the bridge district filed a lawsuit in marin superior court alleging trespass, nuisance and unfair business practices among other claims. the district says the men used the video to boost their social media traffic and pursue licensing revenue. the gates are now open for one of the bay area's biggest musical festivals of the year. because sometimes they create more problems than they should. i wanted to do just a little bit of information about the ear so i brought this little model with me. if you can see here, this is the area of the ear that's equal to this area right here. and then the ear canal in a dog in vertically and then another inch horizontally so owners can't see past much of what they're seeing on the outside. and the outside should shell ping in color. he is exlocited a ok little bu how nice that looks? if you see redness and discharge, take your pet to the vet because we don't know if there's a foreign body in the ear canal by the eardrum and if you put medication in m over-t- roe fit e shth through the eard'srum whicthh at wouldn't be good. so having t loveok, then treating accordingly with the right medication is the way to go. no, you're fine. in my practice eye i don't ever need to do a lot of cleaning.
