57 newsroom at cbs news headquarter in new york. i'm brook silva-braga in for anne-marie green. we begin with the rhett rinne between north korean president kim jong-un and president trump. earlier this morning kim called president trump mentally deranged. he said mr. trump would pay dearly for his remarks at the u.n. president trump promised sanctions against companies and individuals who trade with the north. >> it's a great threat to peace and security in our world, and it is unacceptable that others financially support this criminal rogue regime. >> meanwhile it's reported that the north korean foreign minister said his country might conduct a hydrogen bomb test in the pacific ocean.

now to hurricane, still a powering category 3 as it approaches the turks and caicos and hamas after hitting puerto rico. the recovery will take months if not longer. the coast guard rescued three people from an overturned ship near the puerto rican island. it had been caught in the storm the day before. fema said it will open an air bridge to deliver some much needed supplies. limited commercial flights are expected to resume as well, but situation there remains dire. the entire island is blacked out. many may have to live without electricity for months. much of the infrastructure is also destroyed or damaged. david begnaud is in san juan. >> reporter: residents of puerto rico waded through the mess hurricane maria left behind. flooding is widespread and electricity is nonexistent. 20 minutes from san want in kattan yeo, police and volunteers are looking to rescue

people trapped by maria's storm surge.g ple and asking them what the situation is in their home. across the island streets that don't look like rivers are covered in power lines. maria's 155-mile-per-hour winds crushed what was already a weak power grid. officials cannot say when it will be restored. before slamming puerto rico, maria roared across the mountainous island of dominica. death toll has climbed to more than 15, and the search for the missing continues. the dominican republic saw whipping winds and drenching rain as the storm passed the island as a category 3. maria is moving toward the turks and caicos.stereclation for puerto rico. >> how did you feel when you saw the rescue come? >> happy. very happy. >> reporter: with so many communities cut off, the full extent of the damage is not yet

known. david begnaud, san juan, puerto rico. in mexico the death toll from tuesday's earthquake has now topped 270 people. more than 2,000 were injured, and the search for survivors trapped in collapsed buildings continues. made headlines around the world turns out to have been a false report. nikki battiste has the report. good morning. >> that's right, brook. the child became a symbol of hope, but no family members came forward to identify her and her name wasn't registered at the school. rescue crews with dogs in and around mexico city spent a third full day and night looking for survivors of tuesday's massive earthquake. survivors are still being found. this is a rescuer crawling between two collapsed walls pulling a woman to safety. he was she was one of three

survivors saved yesterday from this building. mexican president enrique pena nieto said there are still at least ten damaged buildings wher there may still be survivors. he said rescues will continue as long as there's hope of anyone trapped or alive. at one of the schools that collapsed, stories started to spread among rescuers and media that a girl may have been stuck under the rubble. it gripped the nation. turns out the story wasn't true. mexican officials say all of the children inside had been accounted for. they point out a staff member may still be in there and may still be alive. nine children and six adults were killed. a scary moment during the day as they had to stop during the day when an earthquake alarm rang during an aftershock.

they yelled out, "yes, we can." it remains unclear how the rumor of the little girl being rescued got start. brook. >> nikki, still a lot to follow. nikki battiste in new york. violence erupted during the speech by the president of turkey in new york city. president erdogan was speaking in a hotel yesterday when a man yelled "you're a terrorist." you can see heforce fully grabbed by bodyguards. he has been criticized for a crackdown against his following a turkish coup last year. the two have a relationship. face baekbook is changing how it displays political ads. facebook says it will share

with congress some 3,000 ads that were created by russia. >> reporter: in a live appearance on facebook mark zuckerberg admitted russia found it easy to place ads on faceback without being discovered. >> most ads are bought without an advertiser ever speaking to someone at facebook. >> reporter: facebook also admits that its internal investigation found more than 3,000 ads costing more than $100,000. facebook said the vast majority of ads didn't specifically reference the u.s. presidential election or particular candidate but appeared to focus on amplifying social and political messages. it will now be turned over to congressional investigator. for months facebook denied there was any evidence that russians had paid for election advertising. senator mark warner is vice chairman of the senate intell jens committee. >> i feel like facebook has finally been responsive but the proof will be in the extent of

the materials they give us next week, and then will they continue to work with us to identify other sites that may have originated in russia. they've identified one russian troll farm. >> reporter: the identity should not have been an issue. >> they should have known it comes from the nation state people often call russia. >> reporter: zuckerberg promised today to make it easier for users to identify who is paying for political advertising on facebook. >> we can't prevent all governments from all interference, but we can make it harder. >> the issues raised in the ads adds to the spugs that russia may have had some help from insii inside the united states. an investigation is under way in oklahoma city after police there shot and killed a deaf man. on tuesday night officers responded to a hit-and-run accident. they came across this man holding a metal pipe.

he didn't respond to commands, and witnesses yelled to the officers, he can't hear you. one fired his taser, the other his gun. it raises a lot of questions about training. jury deliberations resume this morning in the trial of a man charged in the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a tennessee nursing student. zachary adams is charged in the murder of holly bobo. she was reported missing in 2011. her body was discovered three years later. two other men are also charged in the case. prosecutors relied on statements from adams' friends and other inmates to connect him to bobo. coming up on the "morning news," another mob man is released. sammy "the bull" gravado is released from prison. and mystery green water, we'll tell you what's causing that. this is

hernandez took his own life in prison this year. james brown has more. >> reporter: aaronerna wasnd once on to best young stars in the nfl, but by this past april, he was a convicted murderer serving a life sentence when he killed himself in prison. his family decided to donate his brain to the boston university cte research center and his lawyer jose baez released the results. >> aaron hernandez had an advanced stage 3 of cte, which is usually found in the median age of a 67-year-old man. >> reporter: hernandez was 27 when he died. according to researchers symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy include depression, aggression, and suicidal tendencies. the family blames the nfl for his death, suing the league and the new england patriots for an unspecified amount of money.

>> our client may have actually understood what happened to him and that could have prevented his death. >> reporter: hernandez displayed a history of violence back in 2007 when he was a freshman at the university of florida. he allegedly punched worker at a restaurant. in 2013 he was convicted of murdering a friend, oden lloyd. he had just been acquitted in a different murder case when five days later he committed suicide. >> when hindsight is 20/20 when you look back, there are certain things you may know, but you don't know. >> reporter: one in ten players who donated their brains for research were found to have cte. nfl was involved in a settlement with a lawsuit brought by players and their families. aaron hernandez was notart of
