>> reporter: a celebration of military men and women is about to kick off. i want to show usable here at christie field, they have been waiting for this to kick off, but it has not really started just yet. was going to kick this off is the navy parachute team leapfrog, that will be jumping up in just moments now. that elite team is dedicating the jump to them team member, remington peters, who was killed in new jersey where his parachute malfunction. today, they are hoping to honor his spirit as they take a lip -- leap over the water. now, folks can catch the show every day, some of the best places, marina green, or right here at crissy field. earlier today we saw the parade of ships an hour ago. that's when navy ships and a coast guard cutter and the san francisco fire boat passed under the golden gate bridge. the ships include the essex, champion, u.s. coast guard stratton, and canadian navy's

winnipeg. it's a spectacular show of patriotism and celebration of the u.s. navy. since 1981, san francisco has been hosting fleet week. last year, they beat the visitor record. they had 1.5 million people coming to town for the event. this year, they are again expecting more than 1 million visitors to san francisco.icesn the san francisco bay area. fleet week is the one opportunity we get to show support for the military forces throughout the globe, all of the humanitarian missions they are performing, and just show them we care. >> reporter: sfpd says they will have more police patrols in the wake of the vegas massacre. you can expect to see more officers around the city. if you plan on taking a tour of the navy ships, there are rules. no large backpacks or open toed shoes. the biggest straw of course is going to be the blue angels roaring in the sky.

and, the signing started like i said, just about five minutes ago. and, the rules are pretty strict. you can have one book signed by mrs. clinton, and, no selfies allowed. they are really trying to keep the line moving because there are about 1000 people that want their book signed. and, have there one moment with hillary clinton. live in san francisco, anne makovec, kpix 5. the trump administration is rolling back an obama era mandate that will affect millions of women. employers and insurers will soon be able to opt out of providing no-cost contraceptives including birth control for religious and moral reasons. democrats and planned parenthood are condemning the move. house minority leader nancy pelosi released a statement saying, quote, republicans have launched a sickening attack on women's health, women's pocketbooks, and women's independence. no woman should be subject to

the whim of her employer to access the affordable contraception that is her right. according to the national women's law center, 55 million women have birth control coverage without out-of-pocket costs. to the storm watch, people along the u.s. gulf coast are getting ready for another blast of wind, rain, and rising water. kpix 5's jackie ward is following tropical storm nate. >> rivers like this one are gushing in costa rica. the u.s. national hurricane center said costa rica and panama should brace for us wrong and possibly dangerous rain, 15 to 20 inches are expected to prost parts of nicaragua, -- across parts of nicaragua, and many people have already died. at least 15 people are missing in costa rica alone. the flooding caused 5000 people to seek emergency shelter. right now, nate is on track to cut across the tip of mexico's yucatan peninsula as a tropical storm sometime late friday night. with the storm barreling toward the gulf coast, the mayor of new orleans isn't taking any chances. declared a state of emergency and explained a drainage issue.

8 to 10 inches fell on the city in one day which caused pumps and turbine power stations to stop working. >> once again we find ourselves in familiar territory, threatened by another storm coming our way. >> starting saturday at noon we will have 140 pump operators and 42 personnel activated, offering -- operating 24/7 >> the main concern is storm surge. some low-lying areas in louisiana have been ordered to evacuate. governor john bell edwards evacuated -- activated 1300 national guard troops including 15 to new orleans to monitor pumps. officials in panama city are also tracking nate to see how it might affect weekend events. when hurricane irma hit, hotel owners say their businesses suffered. today, they are starting to get calls from people who want to cancel reservations but nothing compared to what they see

during irma. the pirate festival is a big draw, 20,000 people are expected to go. tourism officials say they have been in contact with the bay county emergency operations center. to make sure everyone will be safe this weekend. and, we are joining the weather center live now to track what the storm is doing. >> as you saw in your video, nicaragua, honduras, costa rica, now heading toward the yucatan peninsula, cozumel, mexico, you see the areas of hurricane watches. you see the area east, southeast of cozumel, sustained winds of 55, expected to move north-northwest. it is also expected to make a sharp turn east as it gets closer and closer to the u.s. mainland. so, new orleans could still be in line of the storm but also alabama, and mississippi. look what it does be on sunday morning into monday, it could

reach boston, dc. 3 to 6 inches of rain, up to 12 inches in some areas as it makes landfall. the storm surge of course is going to be a problem. we have hurricane warnings from louisiana to florida. i'll have the local forecast in a bit. to las vegas where people are honoring dozens of victims from sunday's mass shooting. mola lenghi has attributes and latest in the investigation. >> reporter: 58 white crosses now line the las vegas strip. a tribute to the concertgoers killed during stephen paddock's deadly rampage. the crosses will remain in place for 40 days. >> these are people that have lives. they have families that are now without them. and it just makes you appreciate the value of each moment. >> reporter: investigators are working to reconstruct his life in the days and months before the shooting, hoping to understand why he did it. cbs news has learned the shooter's longtime girlfriend, his mental stability.

deafness. it's not that they are becoming willful or ignoring you, it's that they are not hearing you as well. and then as they progress, they become deaf. the good news is, ift thaney issweue any more so always nice. i encourage people, if they have puppies, to train them using hand signals. come, stay, sit, lay down. so when they do become deaf you can still communicate with them. they are very good at adapting to becoming deaf. they still know how to move around the house and do the things they normally do. the one thing i would be careful about, although i'm not an advocate for walking your dog off of a leash, i would be mindful of the fact that if you do that, they are not going to be aware of the normal risks that they would normally be able to hear. one last thing is often times they don't bark as much because they are not hearing outside noises and are not alerted to dangers and so they don't bark as much. >> harper loved our stage
