says he's ashamed and that the allegations have caught him by surprise. hena doba is here in new york. good morning, hena. >> good morning, anne-marie. accused by four women now of sexual misconduct, senator franken is fully cooperating. in the meantime the house is working is working on it with the ranks. senator al franken has returned after a week and a half after being accused of sexual misconduct. >> this whole thing has been, you know, embarrassing. >> franken yesterday granted his first round of interviews. he told minnesota public radio he has a lot of work to do to regain the trust of his friends, colleagues, and some constituents. >> some women say i crossed the line, and for that i'm very sorry. >> franken was first accused of

sexual misconduct by broadcaster leeann tweeden who said he forcibly kissed her during a uso trip, and she released a photo where franken posed in a photo with his hands over her chess in 2009. another woman claimed she was groped during a 2010 state fair and another two women say he touched their buttocks during separate campaign events. although franken says he has no intentions of resigning, some say if he did step down, that would not be disastrous for democrats. >> the house will vote this week on a resolution requiring all lawmakers and staff to complete anti-harassment training. >> franken has missed votes after the first claims were made. he said he wants to be a better public servant and a better man. anne-marie. >> hena doba here in new york.

thank you, hena. meanwhile veteran michigan congressman john conyers is giving up his leadership position on the house judiciary committee. conyers is accused of sexually harassing several female staffers and settling a claim with an aide. he doesn't want it to be a distraction. during an interview on "meet the press" yesterday, house speaker nancy pelosi reviewed it. >> as john reviews his case which he knows and i don't. >> why don't you. >> i believe. >> how is it -- >> may i finish my sentence? >> sure, sure. >> he will do the right thing. >> and the right thing is what? resign? >> he is entitled to due process and women are entitled to due process as well. >> the house investigating committee is looking into conyers.

he's the longest serving active member of congress. president trump is back in washington following his holiday weekend in florida. he weighed in again on the alabama race, putting it ahead of the sexual misconduct against candidate roy moore. a growing number of republicans have called on moore to step down. >> if roy moore wins and comes into the senate in january, there's going to be immediately an ethics investigation which is going to be a cloud that he'll be operating in, and it's going to be a distraction for us and our agenda. >> the alabama election for the senate is december 12th. and this morning it is unclear who's in charge of the consumer protection financial bureau. president trump appointed his budget director mick mulvaney as interim director but last night leandra english who had been elevated to interim director by the outgoing director filed a lawsuit challenging mulvaney's appointme appointment.

ultimately the senate must confirm a new director. they're a watchdog for dealing with banks, credit agencies, and credit card companies. the banking industry says the agency is too powerful. mick mulvaney has called the agency a joke. police in southern california rescued a baby allegedly taken hostage by her father. police in covina -- that's just east of languaos angeles -- mov last night following a 7 1/2-hour standoff. the suspect was initially pulled over for suspicious driving. his 7-month-old baby was in the back seat. the child's mother had been in the car but was talked out after arguing with the suspect. the suspect who had a knife was shot dead by police. the baby, however, is safe. an arlington, texas, police officer shot a man who pointed what turned out to be a fake gun at him. yesterday afternoon officers responded to reports of a theft at an arlington shopping mall.

the suspect had allegedly stolen sunglasses. the suspect pulled the imitation gun and aimed at the officer. the officer fired his weapon. the suspect was tangen to the hospital in critical condition. the suspect's gun, a rip pli ka firearm, fires bbs. i erupted and stranded thousands of tourists. this morning the danger zone around the volcano has expanded to six miles. the volcano, mt. agung started erupting over the weekend, throws clouds of ash over 100 feet high. residents were told to evacuate. the international airport was shut down early this morning trapping nearly 60,000 passengers. >> we're now waiting to, i guess, go home. we have to now find a hotel and spend more of our money that they're not going cover us for when we get home unfortunately. >> buses are taking stranded passengers from the airport to

ferry terminals and passage off the island. and if you're looking for a deal, this may be your day. this is the busiest online shopping day of the year and it's expected cyber monday could set a new record, raking in $6.6 billion in sales. meg oliver reports. >> reporter: workers at this fulfillment center outside new york city are on the front lines of the frantic holiday shopping season. amazon has hired 120,000 seasonal employees across the country to meet the demands. conveyer belts have been running 24 hours day to get packages delivered to online shoppers in time for the holiday. sales surpassed last year by 18%. on cyber monday the speed of shopping is only expected to intensify. in 2016 amazon alone processed 64 million orders worldwide on

the fbi reportedly knew for a year that officials were being targeted by a russian government-connected hacking group fancy bear. among the people targeted, the former director at the national security council and the former head of the intelligence agency. the fbi responded saying it routinely notifies people of potential threat information. the "washington post" reports the fbi received a record 203,000 instant gun background check requests on black friday. the previous single-day highs for background chicks were also on black fridays in 2016 and 2015. they're reviewing this after a court-martialed veteran bought a rifle and killed the 2 people in a texas church.

the people on "house of cards" will be paid for missing two weeks. it was suspended after sexual misconduct allegations were leveled against "house of cards" star kevin spacey. they updated the cast and crew about the show's final season in an e-mail. the "denver post" reports on a wild fight in the denver broncos/oakland raiders game yesterday. it began in the first quarter when oakland wide receiver michael crabtree pushed the defensive back, a key to leave out of bounds well after the whistle. he pulled a chain against crabtree's neck, and a houle brawl broke out. punches were thrown as more than a dozen players for each team took part. and the "usa today" reports a tennessee college student's tribute to her deceased dad lit up twitter. bailey sellers tweeted that her dad before he died prepaid for

♪ los angeles police are searching for thieves who spirited away more than 1,800 gallons of vodka from a distillery. this is surveillance video taken three weeks before the november 19th burglary. the distillery owner says he thinks these are the suspects checking the place out. investigators say thieves sawed through dead bolts to get into a storage room. the vodka is worth $278,000. on the "cbs moneywatch," bitcoin breaks another high, and the movie "coco" kills the competition at the box office. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> good morning, anne-marie. well, wall street opens the week at new record highs. now, tomorrow is the senate confirmation hearing for jerome

powell, president trump's nominee to head the fed rae reserve. investors will be paying close attention to powell's monetary policy and banking regulation on wall street. the dow gained 37 points, the s&p 500 finished 25 points higher. and like the dow, the nasdaq also rose 137 points. the value of bitcoin is soaring. it's up and closing in on $10,000. it traded at an all-time high yesterday. its value climbed more than 40% over the past two weeks. the buying frenzy is being pushed by individual investors despite warnings of a bubble from some wall street executives and analysts. one magazine giant is buying another. meredith is paying about $2.18 million for time. meredith publications includes "better homes & garden," "family circle," and "shashape

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ christmas came a little early to hollywood last night. it was the 86th annual holiday christmas parade. musicians decked out in holiday costumes made their way down the parade route. performers waved flags. thousands lined to watch the festivities. you could be paying more for your christmas tree this year. there's a nationwide christmas tree shortage and that could hike up prices by as much as 10%. the national christmas tree association says it's because of

the recession several years ago when fewer trees were planted. it takes about seven to ten years for trees to grow. pope francis arrived in myanmar today. the pope is visiting both myanmar and neighboring bangladesh to encourage their tiny catholic communities to reach out to the neighbors' poorest people. it's a staunchly brewing country. more than 6,000 have crossed the border in the past three months. and former president george h.w. bush is now the longest living u.s. president in history. on saturday mr. bush reached 93 years and 166 days. the previous record holder was gerald ford who died in december 2006 at 93 years and 165 days. this is the "cbs morning news." n at the end of their first year, automatically.

an erupting volcano on the indonesian island of bali has prompted a mass evacuation and stranded tens of thousands of travelers. an ash cloud was thrown 20,000 feet high in the air. up to 100,000 residents have been told to flee. the airport shut down this morning stranding about 60,000 people. and senator al franken says he's embarrassed and ashamed following allegations that he groped several women. franken says he won't resign but will cooperate with the senate ethics investigation. michigan congressman conyers will step down. conyers denies allegations of sexual harassment but says the issue would be a distraction. aaa estimates nearly 51 million americans traveled this thanksgiving day weekend.
