captioning funded by cbs captioning funded by cbs it's wednesday, december 6th, 2017. this is the "cbs morning news." thousands of firefighters worked through the night battling southern california wildfires. some 200 structures have been damaged or destroyed and thousands of people are forced to evacuate. recognizing jerusalem. today president trump is expected to make an announcement that will alter nearly seven decades of american foreign policy. and republicans in washington remain divided on whether to support senate candidate roy moore.

>> i think they're afraid i'm going to take alabama values to washington. >> one gop lawmaker went so far as to send a democratic opponent a donation. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning the fire that's engulfed parts of southern california is forcing new evacuations. there are three fires near los angeles. nearly 200 structures have burned. more that 150,000 residents have been forced to evacuate and major freeways have been shut down. officials say the worst is not over yet. a state of emergency has been declared in ventura county where most schools are closed today, and kenneth craig is there. good morning, kenneth. >> good morning, anne-marie. this is a look at the kind of

devastation residents will wakes up to this morning. behind me is a home that burnt to the ground. all that is left is a car frame. three fires burned in southern california alongside some smaller ones. amid reports hundreds of homes have been destroyed. some residents spent the twilight hours dousing the roofs with water hoping that would combat flying embers. at least 150,000 residents have evacuated. >> all of a sudden i see from the other side fire came to our side. so scary. >> reporter: animals also had to be moved on short notice. kcbs reporter kristine lazar was at a horse farm when it was quickly engulfed in flames. >> do you need me to grab a horse, guys? >> please. >> here we go.

>> reporter: it was spreading so quickly the fire grew. there are high winds with gusts over 65 miles per hour coupled with terrain. the area has had no measurable rainfall for the past six months. with flames come smoke. it's creating a health hazard for millions. forecasters say the high winds that are fanning and spreading the flames are expected to last through at least thursday, possibly into friday. at this point this fire is being considered virtually unstoppable. it jumped the 101 freeway off in the distance behind me and has made its way all the way to the pacific ocean, anne-marie. >> very scary. thank you so much, kenneth. the wildfire has shut down the production of two hbo shows. hbo's csci-fi sears has been suspended, and the cbs series

s.w.a.t. was also suspended, and the los angeles rams canceled practice, which is held near the largest fire. later today president trump is expected to recognize jerusalem as israel's capital and begin the process of moving the embassy there from tel aviv. it's a sea change that could undermine the peace effort and spur violence. they had issued warnings to u.s. personnel and american tourists. seth doane is in jerusalem with more. >> reporter: despite dire warnings across much of the middle east, here as a jerusalem market, president trump is still getting high marks. >> i love trump. all of us in the market love trump. >> reporter: moving the embassy was a campaign programmes. president mahmoud abbas said it was mr. trump's intention to recognize jerusalem at israel's capital. abbas warned the president there would be grave consequences and possible violence if he does.

moves could jump start peace. >> these moves could jump start peace? they would scatter peace. >> reporter: reaction on the streets is already happening two. palestinian groups have called for protests and the u.s. government is warning its americans and employees to stay away from the old city of jerusalem which is just behind me and the west bank for fear of violence. seth doane, cbs news, jerusalem. back in this country, michigan governor rick snyder will set a date for a special election to find a replacement for john conyers. conyers, the longest serving member of the house, resigned yesterday, ending a nearly 53-year career following a number of sexual misconduct allegations. conyers endorsed his son to secede him. and likely today we'll know who won the alabama special election for u.s. senate. despite a string of allegations of sexual misconduct against

teenagers, republican moore has a chance to win. president trump said yesterday he expects moore to do very well. weijia jiang reports. >> reporter: steve bannon joined republican senate candidate roy moore at a campaign rally in alabama tuesday night blasting republicans saying they believe moore's accusers. >> they want to destroy judge moore. and you know why? they want to take your voice away. >> reporter: at least nine women have accused moore of sexual misconduct. some were teenagers when moore was in his 30s. >> they've attacked my wife, they've attacked the foundation we started, and most recently, my character. >> reporter: despite the claims, president trump and the national committee have decided to fully support moore. >> we don't want to have a liberal democrat in alabama, believe me. we want strong borders. we want stopping crime. >> reporter: any republicans remain uncomfortable with the idea. >> if he were to be elected, i think he would immediately have

an issue with the ethics committee which they would take up. >> reporter: arizona republican jeff flake took his displeasure with moore a step further, tweeting this picture of a donation he made to moore's democratic opponent doug jones. on tuesday senator flake criticized president trump for fully endorsing him. >> i think the president is wrong here. i think it will have negative impacts for the parties in the long-term. >> reporter: moore continues to deny any wrongdoing. while the president won't be campaigning on his behalf in alabama, mr. trump is expected to hold a campaign-style rally in pensacola, florida, at the end of the week just miles from the alabama border. weijia jiang, cbs news. new charges have been filed against jose ines garcia zarate who was acquitted in the death of shooting kate steinle. federal authorities charged him with immigration and gun violations. his attorney said the shooting

was an accident. his arrest set off a national debate on immigration. last week a san francisco jury acquitted him of murder and assault. the international olympic committee banned russia from the 2018 winter games. the committee took the unprecedent step for systematic manipulation of anti-doping rules. interruption athletes will be able to take part if they pass drug tests. if the russian meddles, the the russian flag won't fly and the na"national anthem" won't b played. an airbus blocked volaris, a mexican airline was getting ready to take off. the delta flight and the controllers are warned something is wrong. >> the volaris aborted its

"the new york times" has an expose looking into disgraced harvey weinstein's machine. how he relied on relationships to provide him with cover and alibis for decades. more than 50 women have accused weinstein of sexual misconduct. weinstein has denied allegations of nonconsensual sex. the jackson free press reports on protests who demonstrate against president trump when he attends the openings of the mississippi museum this weekend. he'll be at the grand opening of the museum of history.

straight loss. the nasdaq ended the day 13 points lower. a feud between amazon and google is heating up. google pulled amazon's tv device. it's a retaliatory move. amazon is refusing to sell some google items. cyber monday shopping was so big, delivery of your purchase may be delayed. ups is expecting slight delays due to the surge in online sales. they were overwhelming but doesn't expect to miss its christmas deadline. and the world east largest starbucks opened in shanghai today. the 30,000-square-foot store in the shopping strip is about half the size of a football field. they can watch beans being roasted and they can use a reality digital app to interact the with the store. >> fancy.

our top stories this morning, firefighters in southern california are battling at least three major fires this morning. some 200 buildings have been destroyed or damaged. 150,000 residents have been told to evacuate. the fires are spreading quickly fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. and later today president trump is expected to recognize jerusalem as israel's capital. he'll instruct the state department to begin moving the embassy from tel aviv. they warn of affectings the peace process and spurring violence.

the hottest currency in the world is the bitcoin. in the past 12 months, investors have driven the value up nearly 1500%. as bianna golodryga reports, some are warning the bitcoin bubble could burst. >> reporter: at this bar, the drinks are flowing, and so is the conversation about -- >> bitcoin. >> bitcoin. >> bitcoin. >> reporter: the buzz is over this new form of currency exploding in value. >> i think the coin is the future of currency. >> reporter: nathaniel popper is a reporter for "the new york times." >> what it promised was a money that could be controlled outside wall street and outside the control of any government. >> reporter: so what is bitcoin? it isn't money you can your hand. some consider it the new gold, a digital currency that exists online. you can buy and sell them on a bitcoin exchange. there's no central authority and they can be sent and received by third parties without a bank taking a cut. all tractions are track and verified on an electronic spreadsheet.
