good afternoon. i'm kenny choi. >> i'm anne makovec in for michelle griego. he has been called the king of the oakland restaurant scene but now the chef and restaurant owner is taking a step back from his businesses. kpix 5's katie nielsen has more on the accusations. >> reporter: restaurant manager told me they are having a staff meeting here in oakland today to talk about the harassment claims made by 17 former employees. >> its one of our favorite restaurants in the area. >> reporter: customers who have been coming to charlie holloway's oakland restaurants for years say they are disappointed to hear about the accusations against the successful chef and restaurant owner. >> it's a systemic problem we have in our culture of people abusing power. >> reporter: he is the founder and owner of three popular restaurants in oakland one on telegraph afternoon, one on grand, and penrose across the street on grand.

17 women tell the "chronicle," holloway sexually harassed and serbly abused them at all three of his restaurants. >> i'm glad that people are speaking up because i'm hoping for the future that that behavior with change. >> reporter: in a statement released to the "chronicle," hal well said: managers say he is stepping down from directing day to day operations something customers say is a step in the right direction. >> be mindful about how he approaches a situation. there are people working to support themselves and why would you punish everyone for one individual? >> i want to support the local business owners and i'm glad that they have had so much success and have a fantastic location in the community. so it makes me really sad to hear about this accusation. >> reporter: sorry, there is no word on whether any of the

women who came forward with the harassment allegations claim to legal action against hallowell or the restaurant. katie nielsen, kpix 5. opposite the man accused of plotting a christmas day attack on pier 39 will be in court. everitt jameson was arrested last week after plotting a suicide attack at pier 39. the "l.a. times" reports that jameson had been depressed over losing custody of his children. he is charged with one count of providing information to a terrorist organization and will be in court in two hours. new video at noon. a homeless man saved overnight by some teens in santa clara county. the group was driving that tesla near the guadalupe reservoir about 1 a.m. when they spotted the man in the woods flashing a light signaling for help. he had broken his leg while setting up camp. those teens called first responders, who came to the rescue. the man now recovering at the

hospital. a suspected drunk driver, police found a vehicle upside- down and arrested the driver. no major injuries in the crash. san jose police are investigating a deadly shooting on the east side. a man was shot at 9:00 on van winkle avenue last night near an elementary school. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. his name hasn't been released. no word on a possible motive or any suspects. santa rosa police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing at a restaurant. the attack happened last week at lola's market on dutton avenue. police say that [indiscernible name] got up from a table and stabbed a man in the neck before running off. investigators say that orozco an victim didn't know each other. they didn't speak to each other before the attack. investigators say that orozco has numerous aliases. he had been living in santa rosa for the past two months.

motive for the attack is unknown. as we get ready to ring in the new year, law enforcement agencies around the bay area say they are going to be hard at work to keep everyone safe. in san francisco, police will have extra patrols for areas like the embarcadero and fisherman's wharf. they will also be looking out for drunk drivers. and the department is offering text message alerts to anyone planning to spend new year's eve in san francisco. to sign up, text nyesf17 to 888777. the new year comes with new laws and californians can expect some big changes. laurie perez breaks them down. >> reporter: transgender people are celebrating what some call a practical and principled victory. under senate bill 179, transgender people don't need to prove they have had clinical treatment before applying with the state to change their gender on their birth certificates. it also adds a nonbinary option so starting in 2019, people who

don't identify as a man or woman don't have to choose on their driver's license. >> it's the right thing to do. why force to have people live and have government documents represent them in an inauthentic way? >> reporter: they are being flooded with requests about new restrictions on buying ammo. >> you can still go to a local pre-existing gun shop and buy your ammunition. >> reporter: but if you are like many who shop online, schwartz says new regulations will change the way you buy ammo in two key ways. >> the main part of the ammunition law that starts on january 1st, 2018, requires that all ammo transactions take place within a licensed california dealer. however, the background part of the california new ammunition laws don't come into effect until july 1st, 2019. >> reporter: lawmakers are giving graduating high school students some relief in the new year. they will no longer have to

saying there were voting irregularities that needed to be investigated. a judge rejected those claims and election officials say that they found no evidence of voter fraud. moore was dogged by accusations of sexual misconduct involving teenaged girls decades ago. doug jones is the first democrat to be elected to the u.s. senate from alabama in 25 years. taking live look now at the white house, a new report finds the trump administration has seen more first year turnovers than any of its predecessors. the "wall street journal" reports 21 of 61 senior officials have either resigned, been fired or reassigned. meantime, president trump is back at his resort in florida today after making the first public appearance of his vacation. mola lenghi reports the president visited a firehouse where he praised first responders. >> we want to give these kids the credit for the great job they do. so thank you all very much. >> reporter: president trump visited firefighters in west palm beach wednesday afternoon thanking them for their service.

he also paused to pat himself on the back. >> the country is really -- it's a big beautiful shift that's turning us around. we signed more legislation than anyone. >> reporter: the president signed more than 90 bills into law since he took office. that number is hundreds fewer than the nearly 700 pieces of legislation that one bill tracking website counts as signed by president kennedy during the same period. president bill clinton and george h.w. bush also signed more than 200 bills into law during the same time. mr. trump also took to twitter taking credit for an 83% increase in arrests for members of the ms-13 gang and reducing the number of isis fighters from 35,000 to 1,000 since he took office. fresh off his legislative tax victory, president trump plans to hold a strategy session with republican congressional leaders at camp david, the first weekend in january. a spokesman for both senate majority leader mitch mcconnell

the city is considering adding express lanes along 101 and 2-80... to ease congestion. getting into and out of san francisco may get a little easier. the city considering adding express lanes along 101 and 280 to ease congestion. the "san francisco examiner" reports that the city's transportation authority has been reviewing a study on carpool lanes. it's also considering high occupancy express lanes. but not everyone loves the idea of charging drivers to skip traffic. the board of supervisors voted against extending the study to paid lanes this month. police have arrested three women for stealing hundreds of dollars of products from a pharmacy in benicia. a rite aid employee says that she saw the trio leave the store without paying for $600 worth of sinus medication and baby formula. police say that they then headed to cvs.

machine back in 2011. his homemade concoction with all natural ingredients sparked an idea. >> it was this kind of eureka moment where it tasted extremely good even though it didn't have any sugar, it was rich in protein, all natural. so i was like, hey, you know what? here's my escape from law. >> reporter: he found a partner, doug, another disgruntled lawyer willing to go deep in debt to make ice cream! it hit stores in 2012 but didn't sell. so how did you sleep at night? >> i slept restlessly. >> reporter: they turned to social media sending pints too youtube influencers. but it became about calories. a pint has a single serving of other ice cream. sales skyrocketed. 17million hard packed pints in 2016. under the lid it reads, stop when you hit the bottom. the slogans aren't healthy for those struggling with portion

it's 61 degrees. this high pressure system is what's keeping things nice and sunny and dry. the clouds are skirting their way around. for the most part sunny for days. we have an afternoon of sunshine and all these mild temperatures and things will be clear tomorrow, as well. we'll be dry for 2017 going into 2018. your high temperatures for the day, you're going to be in the mid-50s in the south bay, 56 in morgan hill and los gatos. 61 in half moon bay. 59 in pacifica, hayward 59, as well. 60s in the area. cooler closer to the water. warmer further north, 66 in st. helena. 62 in ukiah. 64 degrees in cloverdale.

soup but completely vegetables healthy with proteins. the main flavor comes in the carrots. >> the carrots are just wonderful! when you buy these heirloom carrots, make sure the colors and nice and bright. look at this that. free from spotting on the sides. when you bring them home in the refrigerator. everyone different colors, textures and flavors, the soup is beautiful. >> we sauteed those up and we started building the soup. so once we went through that, you can use the same pot. it brings out a better flavor and we add in the escarole. then the stock. for the stock i used dies tomatoes. a good amount of salt. >> after we put it on the plate
