chopper 5 is over the scene of a plane crash, happened on the old naval weapons station property. we have been told that there was one person on board at the time of the crash. and that that person has died. we will continue to monitor this developing story and bring you any updates. an fbi official president trump has accused of being politically biased is stepping down. reporter mola lenghi is live at the white house. mola? >> reporter: andrew mccabe had been with the fbi since 1996. after weeks of speculation, this move, him stepping down, doesn't exactly come as a surprise. and it also doesn't come without at least a little bit of controversy. >> andrew mccabe, the deputy director of the fbi, is leaving his job, effective immediately. >> have you been told mccabe is resigning? >> president trump and republicans have been critical of the investigation, of hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail server when she was secretary of state. and they accuse him of political bias, because his

wife ran for public office as a democrat. >> i would refer you to the fbi for specifics. >> reporter: in december, mccabe used his official e-mail account to promote his wife's campaign. and it asked who he voted for in the presidential election. >> i think it's inappropriate. if this is some kind of carbon test that if anybody in your family votes for x, you can't be part of an administration. >> house republicans were outlining a memo. mccabe is reportedly mentioned several times in the document. >> reporter: the department of justice has asked the house not to release the memo. saying it is not. however, the president himself has made it known he wants the memo out. democrats say it's an attempt to discredit the investigation into the possible trump campaign and russia. white house press secretary sarah huckabee sanders said

>> reporter: that's right. police arrested two people, the suspected driver and a passenger, accused of running down a richmond police officer over the weekend. now, we do want to warn viewers, what you are about to see may be disturbing. >> richmond police released this video today. a key piece of evidence, showing a driver, mowing down one of their officers. an eight-year veteran who was seriously hurt, trying to break up the side show at regatta and marina bay parkway. >> yeah. this flash mob. it's basically a flash mob of reckless driving. we got a the love calls reporting it. officers responded. >> reporter: investigators say the suspect's car was found abandoned, a few hours later. then the owner reported it stolen at a south san francisco station. only police say that was a false report. and the owner is actually the suspect. investigators arrested this couple, 18-year-old juan vargas, the suspected driver. and genesis diaz-castaneda, allegedly in the passenger's seat. both in the valley.

chase across the bay r bay area. it all started when they tried to pull over a truck. police say the suspect sped to san francisco, down southbound 101 in the peninsula and over to highway 92. officers then cornered him and about 30 minutes later in hayward. so he was arrested. >> fire tore through this condominium complex on clyde avenue sunday. firefighters say they found 62- year-old james strong inside the building. he was taken to the hospital, but later died. the fire damaged two homes and several residents were displaced. the cause of the fire is under investigation. police in antioch are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital. happened just before 10:00 last night, on terrace view avenue. police arrived to find a 34- year-old man lying on the road. the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. thshooter loose. in about an hour, a bay

area man, accused of killing two young girls while on the run from police, is expected to appear in court. 23-year-old noe saucedo is charged with murder. police in antioch say he was speeding in a stolen pickup truck two weeks ago, when he ran a red light, and slammed into a truck, carrying the little girls and their mother. 2-year-old camilla cardoza and 4-year-old lennoxy cardoza were both killed in the crash. their mother was released from the hospital after serious injuries. a helicopter hoisted this woman to safety after she got badly injured while hiking on a trail near mount tam. chp says she sliped on a wet trail, fell about 40 feet down steep terrain. and because of the row -- remote location, a helicopter was called in to help. today, a major push for gender equality in the workplace. state senator scott wiener introduced a bill today to make

breast-feeding easier for working moms. it would require employers to create a private space, other than a bathroom, where moms can pump breastmilk at work. supportersful -- supporters of the bill say it can lead to higher employee retention. all in preparation for the high-speed rail project. crews will be doing field work on monterey road. and the work will be done from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 in the afternoon through friday. for the first time in years, the transportation department is set to buy a new ferry. from larkspur, sausalito and tiburon. officials say the need for the new ferry is high, because ridership rose to nearly 3 million passengers last year. a new plan that is looking to turn the extra space on the upper deck of the richmond-san rafael bridge into a third lane is getting support. right now, it's slated for bicycle and pedestrian use, with a moveable median barrier

costa mesa. the plane was on its way to land at john wayne airport in the city of santa ana, when the pilot reported engine trouble. the plane landed near a freeway exit and no one was hurt. cbs news has learned authorities are closing in on a group of thieves that is riping off atm machines. the robberies are known as jackpotting. >> and hackers take control of an atm's computer, asking them to take out cash. reporter tony dokoupil shows us how the scam works. >> reporter: most americans have only seen jackpotting in the movies. >> withdraw 3-0-0 bucks. >> reporter: that's because they've never been carried out in this country. until now. they warned customers of potential jackpotting attacks, moving from mexico to the united states. another manufacturer, ncr said in an alert, this represents the first cases of atm

jackpotting seen in the u.s. >> dan, what are we looking at here? >> we're looking at a random atm in the middle of the street, not in the store, with a front-loading door. and that's what you're looking for if you're looking to do some jackpotting. >> reporter: this shows how this works. first, they pose as repair technicians. they use a key to gain access and install malware on the computers. another team moves in to withdraw cash at will. the compromised atms can dispose up to 40 bills every three seconds. tens of thousands of dollars from a single atm. >> the suspects have been targeting atm his in the pacific northwest, west, south and now new england. authorities are urging people to be on the look jute for this type of crime. and if they have any type of information, contact police.

and here's a live look. from san francisco as well. and our temperatures are staying pretty cold in. 56 in oakland. 57 in san francisco now. from the morning conditions, san francisco is at 53 degrees around 4:00 this morning. only bumping up 3 degrees since then. so looks like the cloud coverage is not allowing us to heat too much for this afternoon. don't expect to see record- breaking conditions out there today. sunset, though, happening at 5:30. and if those clouds break up a little bit, it's going to look really pretty out there. sunrise, at 7:15 a.m. and winds picking up a little bit. east/northeast winds at 7. sfo at 5. i did see a 13-mile-per-hour wind on the coast line earlier. offshore flow happening right now. a little dryer out there. and our future cast does show that the winds will pick up a little by the coastline by tonight. may feel the breeze if you're at half moon bay or anywhere on the beaches. but the rest of the area should be pretty calm.

it's southern california. dealing with high winds. here's a look at high temperatures for this afternoon. in the mid- to upper 60s. 68 in palo alto. 69 for san jose. it's feeling above average. 7 to 10 degrees above average. around the bay, temperatures staying in the mid-60s today. across the north bay as well. things are warmer than they should be this time of year, with the high. and winds are expected to reach 67. here's why we have high pressure over california. and there are some storms, but they're to the north. so the cloud coverage we're getting is basically the tail of these storms. so they're getting all the rain in washington and oregon. and we're get being a bit of the high clouds. but the warmer weather pattern is here to stay. that is also causing santa ana conditions in southern california, where they have high-wind warning and red flag warning. peak gusts up to 65 miles per hour throughout the afternoon. and now, for the next several days, this will be our story. we'll have clear conditions. and storms are going to stay to the north of us.
