but first, developing news at noon, donald trump jr.'s wife vanessa was taken to a new york city hospital just hours ago after she opened an envelope containing an unknown white powder. the letter was addressed to the couple's apartment where police just left moments ago. vanessa and two other people were decontaminated by firefighters at the scene. police and secret service are investigating. deputies are on scene investigating an early morning stabbing that left one stretch of road closed for most of the day, and one woman fighting for her life. kpix 5 ice allen martin is live in the newsroom. >> -- kpix 5's allen martin is live in the newsroom. >> a 19-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times, and injuries considered life threatening. she was rushed to the hospital. let's listen to the 911 call. there's a female crawling on the road. she's missing an arm and she's

bloody. another passing motorist says she appears to have been stabbed in the throat. >> the stabbing happened on tesla road about 2 miles west of carnegie park, was reopened just before 3:00 a.m., chopper 5 overhead this morning as the officers were out there walking, searching for clues. no word yet on when the stretch of tesla road is going to reopen. we will continue to follow this developing story throughout the day. we'll have more tonight on kpix 5 news live at 5:00. a protest organized by the fight for 15 campaign, fast food workers want minimum wage raised to $15 an hour, and promote union right. jessica flores is live in oakland. >> we are on the 98th avenue, as you can see behind me, this is the mcdonald's that's usually crowded at the lunchtime rush hour. the mcdonald's manager locked the doors in anticipation of

that big crowd going in, workers gathering just down the street, planning to march here, fighting for higher wages and fighting to create a fast food workers union. they are joining protests happening across the country. the workers are part of the fight for 15, seeking a national minimum wage of $15 an hour. california, as you remember passed legislation that will bring the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2022, but the workers here are supporting cooks and cashiers who are on strike in the mid-south. the rally comes on the 50th anniversary of the historic memphis sanitation strike which sparked the march led by dr. martin luther king jr. >> i'm proud this is happening in my community. i live two blocks away. i feel the legacy is alive,

martin luther king fighting for low wage workers and people of color and people who live in poverty. we deserve a better life, and this society should recognize the hard work of immigrants and women and other pressed people. >> reporter: now, at this hour, the protesters haven't yet moved from down the street to the mcdonald's. as i mentioned, the manager locked the doors of the mcdonald's, so the protesters could not go inside with their demands. they will culminate with a protest and rally and march in memphis that will take the same route those sanitation workers did 50 years ago. reporting live here in oakland. i'm jessica florez, kpix 5 news. the battle continues over the fate of a war memorial. the lafayette city council will be talking about the land that houses more than 4000 crosses near the b.a.r.t. station.

kpix 5. >> reporter: thousands of small white crosses have stood as a memorial for soldiers who lost their lives in iraq and afghanistan. on the other side of the hill, two houses that are abandoned. >> it's bigger than any of us and we want to keep it as a sacred place. >> reporter: now, the family wants to sell. the old houses used to be on the same lot but last month, the planning commission allowed the family to move the lot lines, separating the houses onto two separate lots, making it easier to sell. now that decision is being called into question by the city council. >> some people in the community who are opposed to the memorial have decided to get involved because they really want to participate in helping to decide what eventually happens with the property. >> reporter: the clark family originally offered to donate the land to the city but the city said no. now a dedicated group of activists are trying to figure out how to potentially work

with owners see their original project continue on in some way. >> ideally put veteran housing at the top of the property and transform the crosses into a permanent peace memorial. >> reporter: the city council is expected to talk about the lot line changes at its meeting that starts at 7:00 tonight. and will also decide if there needs to be a public hearing to help determine the future of this project. in lafayette, katie nielsen, kpix 5. san francisco city leaders are working to get people off the street. state senator scott weaner is looking for a new bill to expand laws to help the most vulnerable individuals. he came on our sunday morning to explain. >> for this small group of people who are being committed allot, who are severely drug addicted, dying, we want to give our counties more tools to put them into a conservatorship, get them into

housing and get them healthy. >> state senator weiner adds it's to get them on their feet in a healthy way. the city of stockton is offering to pay residents $500 a month, no strings attached. it's an experiment known as a universal income. the goal is to give people a hand and see what happens. >> the idea is to have a conversation about the economic system in this country, but how stories of something that small, $500 can do, whether it's the difference of a mother paying for child care, get back in a work force, or entrepreneur able to get work on start up ideas. >> the payments will last for a year. it's expected dozens of people will get monthly payments. the city is trying to figure out who should qualify. the experiment is being funded by an organization called the economic security project. california's police chiefs are getting behind

gubernatorial candidate antonio rigosa. the police chief endorsed the former mayor of l. a. saying he had a good record of lowering crime. a new poll found him in a virtual tie with lieutenant governor gavin newsome. president trump delivered his plans for a 2019 budget for capitol hill. this morning. he's moving ahead with an infrastructure plan that will be paid for by states and local communities. mola lenghi has more. >> boxes of the president's proposed 2019 budget arrived on capitol hill and were unveiled for the press early this morning. the $4 trillion budget proposal isn't expected to go far because it projects a $1 trillion deficit. conservatives aren't expected to vote for that. >> when you look at 300 billion over a ten year period, you know, it makes even a drunken

ride. >> reporter: the 700-year-old st. george's chapel has an equally long history of royal weddings. prince charles worked to get his marriage to camila parker bowls blessed. on may 19th. it will be prince harry and meghan markle's turn. the ceremony will be before an expected crowd of 800 friends and family. the list is still private, but royal correspondent roya mika has disappointing news for trump. >> not donald trump we hear. >> love and marriage will then be followed by a horse and carriage ride, after leaving st. george's chapel, the newlyweds will travel along the main street, then down the so called long walk before arriving back at windsor castle, giving thousands of spectators a chance to see the couple along the way. >> they want to be able to give
