about an hour and a half outside washington, d.c. mola lenghi is live with the latest on this developing story. >> reporter: good afternoon, kenny, and michelle. as you mentioned, shooter has been identified, 17-year-old austin rollins, who was a student here at great military high school. authorities-- great mills high school. he shot two classmates, a 16- year-old girl in critical condition and a 14-year-old boy who is in stable condition. all of that before rollins succumbed to his own injuries and died a few hours later. police locked down the campus of great mills high school tuesday morning shots were fired. >> a male student produce add handgun and fired a round, wounding a female student and another male student in a hallway of great mills high school. just before classes began. >> reporter: a school safety resource officer confronted the

shooter. >> he engaged the shooter, during which he fired a round at the shooter, simultaneously, the shooter fired a round as well. aisle told that at 10:41:00 a.m. this morning, the shooter was confirmed deceased. >> reporter: aaliyah arrived. >> you see cops, everyone screaming saying get down. >> reporter: school officials say students were evacuated to a nearby high school to be reunited with parents. robin london is waiting to pick up her son. >> i got a call from my 15 year old son that goes to great mills high school, he goes, mom, come and get me, somebody just got shot. my heart dropped. >> reporter: atf and fbi agents are here helping with the investigation. now, it's unclear if the shooter, rollins, took his own life or if he was ultimately shot by the school resource

officer responding to that scene during the gun exchange with the student but we do know the school resource officer was unarmed in the shooting. kenny, michelle. >> what are authorities saying about the type of gun used by the shooter this morning? >> reporter: we know it was a handgun. the st. mary's county sheriff says it was a glock, semiautomatic handgun, and we know the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms has put an emergency trace on that weapon to see exactly how the gunman obtained it. kenny? >> mola lenghi for us in great mills, maryland, with the very latest on that shooting. thank you. new information is pouring in about the latest package explosion in texas. we have learned today's latest bomb that blew up at a fedex center was mailed from austin to austin. the package exploded at the facility near san antonio earlier this morning. the san antonio fire department says the bomb was on an automatic conveyor. the blast injured one person who was suffering from nonlife

threatening injuries. officials say this could be related to the previous bombings in austin, and they are asking for the public's help. >> we want all video. >> if law enforcement agents are able to linked fete exbombings to the four in austin, it would mark the first time the suspected bomber is using a delivery service to mail one of the bombs. the first of three in austin were hand delivered onto porches and the fourth one used a trip wire which means the bomber's methods could be changing. san francisco supervisor aaron peskin is apologizing to the san francisco fire chief. it comes after he called for her resignation over firefighters response to the fire that broke out in san francisco's neighborhood. peskin criticized crews at the scene of the fire and he has issued this statement, reading in part, while i reserve to raise questions as more

information comes out about ssfd leadership response to saturday night's fire, it was inappropriate to raise them on the scene i felt apologize to chief hayes white and intend to convey this to her as soon as i return from the legislative recess. preliminary findings rule out foul play. judge aaron persky is fighting to keep his seat, today, that recall is scheduled to appear on the june ballot. persky is the judge who sentenced brock turn tore six months in jail after he was found guilty of three felony sex crimes. a group of opponents were at the hearing. they called the appeal a tactic to avoid the recall. >> i said we feel that judge persky's intention is to confuse the voters and cost the county and the state money that taxpayers should not have to pay for his effort to avoid facing the voters. >> the judge will issue a ruling later but opponents are

in dublin. we'll time out future cast for you and let you know when we're going to see more intensive rainfall here this week because there's a lot more to come. i'll send it over to you now. >> neda, thank you. the data privacy scandal engulfing facebook continues to grow. there's a lot of questions about how data firm cambridge analytica acquired data of 50 million facebook users. >> it's putting all social media companies on alert. >> it is. and i'm watching the facebook stock numbers fall as they have been throughout the day. right now down 3 1/2 percent. today's losses declined 7%, the biggest decline in the company's shares in four years. >> lawmakers are now demanding that facebook ceo mark zuckerberg appear before congress, a stop toward possible federal regulations. >> if the industry won't solve these kinds of problems themselves, we'll have to solve

them with legislation. >> reporter: it's all fallout from the cambridge analytica bomb shell. facebook explains it this way, it initially gave out the data of millions of users to a researcher who claimed it would only be used for academic purposes. facebook claims that researcher then passed the content onto cambridge analytica, a former employee of that company says they used the data to build a psycho graphic profiles about voters for the trump campaign. >> in terms of the amount of data that was collected, it's a rare example of fast, relatively cheap but high quality. >> the federal trade commission could be investigating whether it violated a previous order that it informs users when it shared the data. a spokesperson says we are aware of the issues that have been raised. we cannot comment on whether we have been investigating. we take any allegations of violations of our consent

in the entire place that has not been developed upon and we need to protect and preserve this place. >> reporter: blake ridge properties is behind the development, an example of a california law at work. sb35 streamlines the approval process for affordable housing. this development would include 130 affordable units, and the developer said the site is not historic. >> we have conducted five years of research. the most extensive research ever conducted and spent millions of dollars doing so, and none of that research has ever shown that this was ever the site of the west berkeley shell mound. >> reporter: the ohlone tribe and developer have been in negotiations for months. >> we spent seven months working with the triable leaders and made various offers, including an offer to actually give them the whole property subject to a ground lease on which we would build our project and after which they would own the entire parking lot. >> we could not compromise anymore of this. >> reporter: the city of

handling of pets, united airlines is halting its program for pets traveling in cargo effective immediately. it will honor existing reservations but not new ones. the news comes in the wake of a dog dying on board a flight last week and two other pets being misdirected. uber is taking self-driving cars off the road across the u.s. after a deadly accident in arizona. police say sunday night in tempe, a car was in autonomous mode with a person behind the wheel when a woman walking outside of a crosswalk was hit. she died of her injuries. the crash comes just weeks before autonomous cars are set to hit the bay area. uber released this statement saying quote our hearts go out to the victim's family, we are fully cooperating with tempe police and local authorities as they investigate this incident. at this time it's unclear why the person inside the car was not able to help prevent the collision. police say the uber was traveling just under 40 miles per hour. new video today at noon showing the impact of severe

weather in the southeast. hail cracked several car windshields and windows at this car dealership in coleman, alabama. the worst part, all of the vehicles were brand new. hoods were also dented, the dealership estimates several thousand dollars in repairs. >> that is a lot of damage. we're just having rain, right? >> we're having rain, but there is a chance of thunderstorms and even hail. we have been getting small hail. hopefully it won't cause damage. that's not expected until tomorrow afternoon or thursday, here's a look at our high def doppler right now. here's what we're dealing with. a decent amount of rain coming through livermore, a lot stronger through livermore, further east toward sacramento, dublin, san ramon. dealing with light showers on interstate 680. it's winding down a little bit in the area of south san francisco, downtown, it looks like you're going to get hit with a stronger cell, bringing on and off showers. that's what we're going to see for the rest of this afternoon.

glenn close, hercules, martinez dealing with rain drops. use the windshield wipers. keep that umbrella close. we'll see rain through friday night. sonoma, napa, you're facing about a quarter of an inch per hour. a lot of cells moving in quickly, and moving out of there quickly. rain drops on the lens, and also winds picking up a little bit, but really we're going to have a wind event. by tomorrow night into thursday. so that's when the winds will be howling. here's the view of our kpix roof camera. a soggy mess for many areas. 51 in livermore, 54 in oakland. it's an atmospheric river, headed straight for santa barbara, but it is impacting northern california as well. central, southern california, they are dealing with flash flood watches and warnings. for us, 1 to 2 inches, some areas, 2 to 4 inches of rain. from today through friday night, 1 to 3 inches possible. for the north bay, 2 to 4. for the santa cruz mountains.

cyber scout, there are many ways hackers steal identities, but levinson suspects it was grabbed through the equifax breach, which exposed 175 million social security numbers. >> once you have that combined with other information about a person, you can do pretty much everything you want to do in terms of compromising their identity. >> reporter: to protect yourself, levin suggests contacting the big three credit bureaus, equifax, experian and transunion, to freeze your credit so no one can open an account under your name. try not to overshare on social media. hackers can use the details to recreate your identity, and update your cell phone for security upgrades. for hackers, every consumer is a potential target. >> the only reason you haven't become a victim of identity theft yet is they haven't gotten around to you. >> nickelson is shutting down every fake account but says now that someone has her identity, she can never let down her
