aboard the southwest flight. the pilot made an emergency landing on the philadelphia airport after one of the planes engines exploded. one of the passengers recorded a facebook video. >> it felt like it was freefalling. everyone was freaking out. everyone was crying. >> reporter: photos taken inside the plane show a damaged left engine. the explosion punctured the side of the 737. >> it was an explosion, then it almost immediately stopped and then came down. and then in a matter of 10 seconds, the engine then hit a window and busted it wide open. that explosion critically injured a passenger that was sitting in row 17. >> reporter: the plane was going from new york to dallas. cbs news aviation and safety analyst said it look like an

uncontained failure. >> not only does the aircraft engine stop operating and explode, but parts of the engine itself actually potentially may go into the side of the aircraft. >> reporter: the national transportation safety board is expected to launch an investigation. michelle miller, cbs news philadelphia. we're just learning the one passenger was transported from the scene in critical condition. seven others were treated for minor injuries. they talk but what they found once the plane touched down. >> i can't say that when our aircraft rescue and philadelphia via firefighter personnel arrived, they found a fuel leak at a small fire and one engine on the 737 aircraft. aircraft are complex pieces of machinery. >> passengers are being interviewed before being booked on other flights. they are sending a team of investigators to the airport. a fire at a san jose

apartment complex force people to make daring escapes this morning. the five alarm fire started just before 6:00 at the summer winds apartments near highway 101 and tele road. investigators helped to rescue several people, they say that some neighbors tied sheets together to escape from their balconies, while others jumped in to help. >> we could barely get the gate open and to get the fire partin in. there was so much smoke from both of the buildings. in this particular instance, there was a family that were trapped on the balcony. >> this was the view from chopper 5. crews climbed ladders to douse the flames. 50 people who lived in the complex had to be treated for smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> one person was killed in a crash this morning. two cars collided. one slammed through a maine comcast cable and that knocked out cable and

internet service in the area. it is not clear when the service will be restored. a heads up for drivers making their way through lafayette. moraga road is closed between st. mary's road and sky high drive because of downed power lines. pg&e and crews are on site. the roads should be back open at any moment. today, president trump responded to report that california will not be sending national guard troops to the border after all. the governor says that is not true. we have more on the back and forth. >> reporter: based on what governor jerry brown is saying, there is no confusion regarding california's national guard troops. he says they are ready to go and get to work. taking questions from reporters at the national press club in washington, dc, governor jerry brown said that while some details are unclear, the california national guard is working with national guard headquarters. >> i sent a letter stating my

objectives and that number could be 200 or 400. that is being worked out. >> reporter: last week, brown agreed to send 400 troops, but only if they do not assist in immigration matters. >> we have plenty to do with respect to our borders. the problem of guns, cartels below the border, human trafficking, guns going south. there's a lot to do. >> reporter: confusion started yesterday when federal officials told the associated press that california national guard members would not enforce trump's immigration agenda. >> california has plenty to do. we are willing to do it. >> reporter: and you come to terms on an agreement? >> i think we have already come to terms as far as i understand it. >> reporter: the critical terms appear to be news to president trump, who tweeted that it looks like jerry brown in california are not looking for safety and security along their very porous border. he cannot come to terms for the national guard to patrol and protect the border.

nearly hit by a bus.. after being pushed by her friend. street camera footage captured the heart-stopping incident in poland check out this crazy video. this is a close call for a teenager who was nearly hit by a bus. do see the girls walking? they are friends, apparently. one of them pushed the other one right into the path of that bus. obviously, it is a heart stopping incident. it happened in poland last thursday. the 17-year-old girl miraculously only had minor bruises. as for her friend, she says they were just joking around. please gave the girl a fine and she may also face charges. a nationwide search is on for minnesota grandmother accused of killing her husband and then killing a woman who looked like her so she could steal her identity. we have a report. investigators fears she could kill again. >> she is armed. she is dangerous. she looks like anyone's good mother or grandmother and she

myers. police say she was most recently spotted in corpus christi, texas, where authorities fear she could cross the border into mexico. >> they say she has a history of gambling problems and they say the court reppert's -- records say that she been accused of $70,000 from her disabled sister and spent thousands of it at her casinos. police believe she killed the victims with the same gun and that she still has it. it is 60 minutes after 12:00. it is tax day. you can see that the dow is up today, though. it has been all day. more than 239 points. attacks the issue for the irs. the online filing service is currently down. the agency says it is working to resolve the problem, but if you're looking to mail your taxes by the deadline, several bay area post offices are open later than others. oakland and san jose main post
