headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, a private funeral will be held saturday for former first lady barbara bush. she died tuesday at the age of 92. mrs. bush is being remembered this morning for her straight talk and devotion to family and public service. she was married for over 73 years to former president george h.w. bush, who was at her side when she died. courtney zubowski is in houston. courtney, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. outside the family home, people have been stopping by, dropping off flowers, and sharing memories of the former first lady. barbara bush has done so much for people here in houston, across the country, and around the world. as first lady barbara bush took up the cause of child and adult literacy. >> if more people could read, write, and comprehend, we would be that much closer to solving so many of the problems that plague our nation.

>> reporter: but it was her role as mother of six and wife of former president george h.w. bush that was most important to her. >> i'm the mother of wonderful children and the wife of the world's greatest man. >> reporter: a family spokesman took to twitter tuesday writing, the 41st president, to whom she was married to for 73 years, held her hand all day and was at her side when she died. her son, the 43rd president wrote, our souls are settled because we know hers was. the bushes have called houston home for decades. neighbors have been leaving flowers and notes here at their residence as a tribute to the former first lady. >> she's just a normal lady, except that she comes with secret service. >> reporter: when they weren't attending sporting events together, they would visit this local pizza shop that named a pizza pie in her honor. >> she stood up for her family and america and i would say a real true first lady. >> reporter: earlier this week

the bush family announced the family matriarch was in failing health and decided to receive comfort care at home. she'd be ladies on the grounds of the george w. bush library next to her daughter robin who died of leukemia at the age of 3 years old. a private viewing for close friends and families will occur on today and tomorrow. that's at the george lewis funeral home also here in houston. anne-marie? >> courtney zubowski here in houston. thank you so much, courtney. >> reporter: president trump ordered flags to be loyered to half-mast in her memory. and former president obama and mrs. obama wrote, we'll always be grateful for the generosity

mrs. bush showed us for the time we were in the white house but even more grateful for the way she lived her life. and bill clinton wrote bausch are bush was fierce and feisty in her support for family and friends and others. j.j. watt wrote, thank you, b h barbara bush. i'm forever thankful for your friendship. also this morning washington is abuzz following news of a secret meeting between director mike pompeo and kim jong-un. his secret visit comes amid preparations for a summit between president trump and kim expected within the next few months. pompeo travelled to north korea over easter weekend. that's according to the "washington post." they were holding direct talks at extremely high levels and this morning south kia is

considering changing the armistice that ended the korean war that ended in a peace agreement. southwest airlines says it's beginning enhanced inspections on its engines similar to the one that blew apart yesterday. a passenger was killed when parts of the engine blew through a window. southwest says the boeing 737 was inspected sunday and there were no problems. the pilots made an emergency landing in philadelphia. michelle miller has more. >> airport 10, there is a hole in the side of the southwest aircraft. >> reporter: southwest flight 1380 was 40 minutes into the trip from newark's laguardia aurpt to dallas when passengers heard a loud boom. the left side engine failed, send i sending debris from the fuselage in through the window. jennifer albuquerque was killed. >> our hearts go out to the family of the loved ones.

>> reporter: after the explosion the plane lost air pressure, dallas resident matt started to say good-bye to his family. >> so i spent a lot of my time trying to articulate what i wanted my final words to be. >> reporter: seven people were treated for injuries here at the airport. one runway was shut down for nearly three hours after a ground hold. the airplane's engine is used on nearly 7,000 planes around the world. the ntsb is on the scene. >> our preliminary examination of this was that there's evidence of metal fatigue where the blade separated. >> reporter: southwest has a good safety record with only 17 major accidents and incidents since it began flying in 1967. michelle miller, cbs news, philadelphia.

"the new york times" reports a flap over new sanctions erupted into an open conflict between u.n. ambassador nikki haley and the white house. on "face the nation" sunday, haley said the administration would announce new sanctions the next day. that did not happen. yesterday, new white house economic adviser larry kudlow said haley was suffering from momentary confusion. that prompted haley to fire back saying, quote, with all due respect, i don't get confused. kudlow called haley to apologize. top missouri republican lawmakers are calling on republican governor eric greitens to resign.

it comes after the attorney general said greitens may have used a donor list in his 2014 campaign. greitens is already embroiled in a sex scandal with allegations of violence and sexual misconduct. he said he won't resign. the "washington post" reports a divided supreme court reports part of a law used to deport immigrants convicted of crimes was too vague to enforce. the 5-4 decision could limit the government's ability to deport people with criminal records. president trump has said it's a priority. mr. trump's supreme court appointee neil gorsuch sided with the courts for liberal justices in the decision. the "hartford courant" says the families of two children killed in the sandy hook elementary school master filed a lawsuit against right wing radio host alex jones. jones previously said the incident never happened. they're accusing jones of defamation for calling them crisis actors who faked their
