good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. the suspect in the shooting of two dallas police officers and a home depot em employee ee is under arrest this morning. the officers were shot at a home depot in northern dallas yesterday afternoon. this morning they're out of surgery, listed in critical condition. the suspect was picked up last night. hena doba is here in new york. good morning, hena. >> good morning anne-marie. he was picked up after a lengthy car chase involving two police agencies. two police officers were called to the store to help an off-duty officer with removing the man from the store. dallas mayor mike rawlings expressed relief following the arrest of armando luis juarez. >> i want to thank our dallas police tonight. they have taken a punch and they've come out fighting.

>> police say 29-year-old armando luis juarez was being escorted out of a home depot in northern dallas when he opened fire. a male police officer was shot in the back of the head and a female officer was shot in the face. >> i seen two officers down surrounded in puddles of blood. >> investigators say juarez escaped in a white pickup truck. it prompted a citywide manhunt that ended nearly six hours later. >> they observed the vehicle fitting the description of the wanted vehicle. they pursued this individual through the area of northwest dallas where they apprehended him. >> a female passenger was arrested along with juarez. >> he's facing multiple counts, a warrant for multiple accounts of aggravated assault on a police officer. he had an outstanding warrant on felony theft as well. >> all three shooting victims underwent surgery last night and remain hospitalized.

>> it's unclear who juarez's passenger was or what charges she may now be facing. anne-marie. >> hena doba here in new york. thank you very much, hena. president trump says he stanldss behind his nominee to head veteran affairs but he understands if dr. ronny jackson wants to back out. jackson tried to convince lawmakers of his leadership abilities, this as accusations emerged concerning his workplace practices, including alleged repeated drunkenness, claims of inappropriate behavior, and overprescribing prescription drugs. he also met privately with the president, who says jackson faces unfair scrutiny. >> i said to dr. jackson what do you need it for, so we'll see what happens. i don't want to put a man through who's not a political person. i don't want to put a man through a process like this. it's too ugly and too disgusting.

white house. for the third time, a federal judge has ruled against the trump administration's efforts to end the daca program that protects some young immigrants from deportation. the deferred action for childhood arrivals program allowed immigrants brought to the u.s. illegally as children to stay and work under renewable permits. the didn't of homeland security ended the program in march, but yesterday district judge john bates called the rationale for ending the daca arbitrary, capricious, and unlawful. in toronto, the man police say drove a van into a sidewalk killing ten individuals may have had issues with women. he posted a chilling post on facebook. kenneth craig has our report. >> reporter: a line of police officers combed the street in toronto where monday's van attack happened, looking for evidence. 25-year-old alec minassian was charged tuesday with ten counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder.

police say he plowed his rented white van into a crowded sidewalk and continued for more than a mile. a tense standoff with police followed as the suspect pointed an object at an officer. >> get down. get down. >> reporter: minassian eventually surrendered without the officer firing a shot. >> the way he behaved was pretty much an example of terrific policing. >> reporter: detectives say they're looking into reports that minassian saluted elliot rodger online. rodger publicly raged against women in 2014. >> he posted on facebook minutes before he began driving a van. >> reporter: a government spokesman said minassian was a member of the canadian armed forces in october of last year

comment from caterpillar rattles the market, and amazon is delivering to your car. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> good morning, anne-marie. stocks plunged on fears oil prices and other prices will plunge along with program selling, but it was a comment by executives at machinery maker caterpillar that stoked the selloff. the dow skidded some 424 points. the s&p 500 dropped 35 points. the nasdaq tumbled 121 points. digging deeper into caterpillar, the company did beat earnings, but lost, but top brass said first quarter earnings would be the, quote, high watermark of the year and warned of higher prices after the trade dispute with china. there was a nosedive that dragged down other stocks with it. the company formerly known as yahoo! is paying a $35 million fine to settle federal
