good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning some 200 central american migrants seeking asylum in the united states are being held at the mexico border. u.s. immigration officials say the san diego processing facility is full. their month-long journey by foot, train, and bus has been closely watched and criticized by the trump administration. hena doba is here in new york. hena, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. it's been a tough journey for these migrants. so 1,500 people were in the caravan when it started over a month ago. its dwuindled to about 200. many are camped on blankets and backpacks outside the crossing. hundreds at arrived at the

u.s./mexico border. for many it was the end of a month-long journey to get to the united states, but the caravan's members learned they would have to wait before they could even apply for asylum. officials with u.s. customs and border protection said their facility south of san diego is full. the migrants won't be processed until space is available. >> are you watching that mess that's going on right now with that caravan that's coming up? >> that rally has been a flash point. >> if a person puts their foot over the line, we have to take them into our country, we have to let them go to come back to court in like a year. only one problem. they don't come back. >> on sunday immigration rights activists held a rally on the u.s. side of the border. some have been meeting with the migrants in mexico. >> sadly we are expecting them to be in a detention awaiting asylum at least for six months.

>> for now the caravan's members are camped out in tijuana as they await a chance to enter the u.s. u.s. officials have said they will prosecute any migrants who make false statements when applying for asylum. anne-marie? >> hena doba here in new york. thank you so much, hena. this morning there was a double suicide bombing attack in isis is taking responsibility for a double suicide bombing in kabul, afghanistan. at least 25 people were killed. the bombs exploded near government offices. among the dead were a number of journalists caught in the second explosion while reporting on the first. at least 25 were killed and 45 people were wounded. and this morning mike pompeo wrapped up his trip. jordan is the last stop on a

middle east wing where he has called for tougher measures to stop iran's efforts to build nuclear weapons. laura powe december a reports. >> reporter: secretary of state mike pompeo arrived sunday where he repeatedly took aim at i rehab. iran. >> we were deeply concerned about iran's nuclear threats. >> reporter: pompeo promised full support to israel. >> iran must be stopped. its quest for nuclear bombs must be stopped. >> reporter: israel is leading with calls to revise its 25 ts nuclear deal with iran. president trump will decide if the u.s. will stay in it by may 12 that if we can't fix it, he's going withdraw from the field. it's pretty straightforward. >> reporter: he does not believe it will play any role in the efforts with north korea. pompeo kicked off fresh

negotiations with kim jong-un in a secret visit last month. >> my goal was to try and identify if there was a real opportunity there. i believe there is. >> reporter: president trump is making plans to meet with kim within the next month or two. laura podesta, cbs news, new york. north korean leader kim jong-un said his country is willing to give up its nuclear weapons if the u.s. pledges not to attack the north. kim also told south korean leader moon jae-in he plans to shut down the north korean test site in may. john bolton said the president is looking for a breakthrough. but north korea has made promises like this before. >> if you look at the decision to give up nuclear weapons as a real strategic decision that north korea has to make, what we want to see from them is evidence that it's real and not just rhetoric. >> bolton said a lot is riding on the meeting between the president and kim.

mr. trump said he will not take anything less than full denuclearization. ahead on "cbs this morning," we'll hear from former cia and nsa chief michael hayden on whether he thinks north korea is serious about denuclearization. ronny jackson, president trump's nominee to be the director of veterans affairs. jackson denied the allegations and the secret service said it found no evidence of the alleged car accident involving alcohol. jackson will return to the white house medical unit. a vigil was held in toronto for the victims of last week's van attack. thousands attended including prime minister justin trudeau. ten people were killed when a van plowed through pedestrians on a sidewalk on a busy toronto street. people left flowers and handwritten notes at a makeshift

there is a mystery brewing at the white house over a missing tree. president trump and french president emmanuel macron shoveled dirt on the lawn and by the end of the week the tree was gone, replaced by a pale patch of grass. it turns out the tree was put in quarantine and will be replanted in the white house gardens. on the "cbs moneywatch" now, a racial controversy at whole foods, and the avengers break a box office record. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> good morning, anne-marie. we'll start with a little recap. so far corporate earnings are strong. more than half of the s&p 500 companies have reported a nearly 80% of beat analyst estimates.

a large part of it has to do with tax cuts. they'll be watching today. now, overall for the week, stocks ended up just about where they started. the world's biggest retailer is looking to get even bigger, seeking to buy a majority stake in india's online retailer, walmart is looking to buy flipkart for between $10 billion and $20 billion. walmart operates about 360 stores globally. it's an escalating war with amazon and could be walmart's biggest acquisition today. meantime whole foods is take a hit over its long beach, california, store. chain of restaurants. it's a deadly virus but some consider it a racist phrase. the restaurant owner said before this past week, this name has not been an issue. the superhero action flick

talk about passing the big one. brazilian surfer rodrigo koxa has been credited with riding the biggest wave ever surfed. he rode the 80-foot wave in portugal. on saturday, the world's biggest surfer received the record at the big wave record award. linebacker shaquem griffin is the first one-handed draft pick in modern history. here's demarco morgan. >> reporter: when the general manager of the seattle seahawks called, shaquem griffin answered. after choosing him in the fifth round, the team now expects the

our top stories this morning, a caravan of central american migrants, some 200, arrived at the u.s. border near san diego yesterday seeking asylum. they had traveled over a month across mexico, but immigration officials said the processing facility was full and the migrants would have to wait in mexico. president trump has repeatedly denounced the immigrant caravan, saying it's an example why stronger immigration laws are needed. and president trump says his summit with north korean leader kim jong-un will take place in the next three to four weeks. kim says he will shut down his nuclear test site in may and he's willing to give up nuclear weapons as long as the u.s. promises not to invade north korea.

the president said he won't accept anything less than full denuclearization. bill cosby opened up to a new york newspaper about his sexual assault conviction. >> reporter: the "new york post" "page six" revealed an intimate look at his reaction to the decision. this is what they wanted, cosby said. the legendary comedian talked to the paper throughout both trials. they agreed nothing would be published until the verdict. during the first trial, cosby was offered a deal to serve under house arrest, register as a sex offender, and probation. cosby told "page six," why take a deal, not when they want me to say that i'm a sex offender. i didn't do what they said i did. over the years more than 60 women have accused cosby of sexual assaults. in addition to andrea constand's testimony, five other witnesses testified against the actor during the second trial. >> today we're finally in
